So can I ask those of you who have been watching since the 70's ( I started watching in about 72 ish and have watched on and off over the last 40 years)

Who was the caretaker busy body who was around I think for a while 20 years ago. Short chap with a real proper old man name?

ivykaty44 · 27/12/2011 23:54

Percy Sugden

answered my own question Smile

LineRunner · 27/12/2011 23:56

Which building did he caretake, ivy? Who were his circle of friends?

LineRunner · 27/12/2011 23:57

X post!

ivykaty44 · 28/12/2011 00:03

this chap

whatkungfuthat · 28/12/2011 10:52

He was the caretaker of the community centre iirc, and Phylis (sp) Pearce was Mary to his Norris

MurielTheActor · 28/12/2011 16:17

Percy and his budgie Grin and Phyllis with the wonderful gruff voice chasing after him. Those were the days

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 28/12/2011 16:29

I remember Pur-seh very well, he was a miserable old sod but purple-haired Phyllis adored him. They were amongst those great Corrie comedy duos, like Derek and Mavis.

AmIthatbad · 28/12/2011 18:45

I used to do a fabulous impression of Phyllis [frgrin]

Percy lived with "Mrs Bishop" didn't he

LineRunner · 28/12/2011 19:08

EdithWeston I dislike Stella very much but I don't know why. Perhaps it is her not terribly authentic accent, or her pointless role and pointless family. I certainly do not wish to see any more of her.

What's the plotline with Carla?

alemci · 28/12/2011 19:34

I used to like Percy and Phyllis and remember Percy had a rival; a man with a flat cap who kept a dog in a bag... name anyone?

alemci · 28/12/2011 19:35

or did I just imagine this last bit and am nuts

LineRunner · 28/12/2011 19:55

EdithWeston may remember?

It does ring a bell - but then again, I may just be as nuts as you, alemci. Smile

EdithWeston · 28/12/2011 20:25

Flat cap made me think Jed Stone but I can't remember if he had a dog. Is it him?

EdithWeston · 28/12/2011 20:40

I like a challenge, and wasn't sure about first answer; so I've been on Google, and Jed Stone didn't have a dog.

But Sam Tindall did - a Lhasa Apso called Dougal (his own dog in real life).

Picture here - far left of second row. Is this who you meant? He was in Corrie in the late 80s.

alemci · 28/12/2011 20:53

Yes Jed Stone was more recent and was also in Brookside and was in the original Randall and Hopkirk deceased. Is the actor Kenneth Cope? I quite liked his character so it was a shame he wasn't still in Corrie.

Definitely Sam Tindall I reckon. he was a forerunner for the celebs with Dogs in bags. Ahead of his time.

LineRunner · 29/12/2011 00:45

That's an archive of memories! (Tautology, I know....)

Sam Tindall it is, then.

EdithWeston · 29/12/2011 16:21

Jed Stone isn't really (or should that be isn't only) a recent character - he started on the Street in the 1960s - just like Dennis Tanner.

Mrsrobertduvall · 29/12/2011 21:12

Remember Percy Sugden was called Persicles by Phyllis.

I have watched CS since the sixties.
The days of Ena and Minnie, Len Fairclough and Elsie Tanner.

LineRunner · 30/12/2011 12:05

I have a dim memory of Elsie Tanner managing "Sylvia's Separates", possibly involving a very young Gail Potter. She was smashing even then, when she would have been Past Her Prime.

stressheaderic · 01/01/2012 21:04

I think Roy, Hayley, Norris and Mary are the most consistently brilliant characters in Corrie at the mo, and prob the only reason I stay tuned.

The actresses who play Sally, Leanne and Anna are very good, the rest are all a bit meh. Can't stand Deidre, Gail and Audrey.

Can't belive Kevin Webster still wears that bomber jacket.

MustControlMincepieOfDeath · 01/01/2012 21:13

stress can't stand Audrey??

katkitya · 01/01/2012 22:23

Well Kevin is back in it so, I assume he's been cleared of whatever was going on?

theliverpoolone · 02/01/2012 00:09

katkitya, it said in today's papers that the case against him has been dropped due to 'lack of evidence' Hmm
