I've just seen a segment from the new series on The Culture Show, Brix and Lund are the only characters reprising their roles and there are less episodes than the first series, but according to Sofie Grabol it's on a higher level and more in depth! Cannot wait until next month!!!

Ok, so we now know that the killer(s) found Thomsen's address by pretending to be the tax office, stole the explosives and booby trapped both her house and boat. And probably only the day before Lund and Strange got there.

What about the priest, has he become dangerous because they found Perk?

teejwood · 03/12/2011 23:31

ok so the killings and their meanings - well the various methods have been used in lots of different countries and periods in history but :

  1. nazi - execution posts (as we now know, thanks to the Guardian!)
anne is the traitor against those in charge/not toeing the line ?
  1. inverted hanging and slit neck - seems kind of medieval or otherwise a bit like how people prepare kosher/halal meat
myg is the sacrificial cow - maybe sacrificed to get his access codes?
  1. burning tyre - bit like SA
gruner suffered the favoured fate for an informer - because he testified?
  1. vehicle bombing (the killer knew she would go for the boat to escape) - bit like the ira
thomsen was just collateral damage - killed because she spoke with anne and knew something about what happened - even if not the full story
  1. crucifixion - again used lots but romans
well - what else for the priest?

does that make sense or am i just deranged?
Hmm

MelinaM · 03/12/2011 23:32

It would appear so crunch, he seemed a perfectly reasonable chap before hand! Xmas Grin

Very impressive work teej Xmas Smile

Nope, makes perfect sense to me!

i think the killer came to see the priest as a liability . if it is sogaard - or sogaard protecting bilal - then perhaps the priest was going along with what sogaard said. as soon as there was a hint that the police would get to him via the priest, the priest was for the chop.

teejwood · 03/12/2011 23:44

thanks mel Xmas Smile i have now exhausted my little grey cells and need to have a rest

but the bottom line is - these killings have a specific psychological meaning to the killer, they are completely premeditated and anticipate the victim's movements, even from a distance. that's one smart if deranged cookie.
who, of course, lund is chasing through a dark, remote and deserted (bar a dead priest and a murderer) church without any form of weapon/defence [fmm]

she'll never learn, that one...

teejwood · 03/12/2011 23:44

sorry that should have been Xmas Hmm
Xmas Blush

Sassyfrassy · 03/12/2011 23:46

Crunchbag, in Sweden anyone Swedish spoke Swedish. Sounded like proper Swedish actors.

teejwood · 03/12/2011 23:51

ohhh - just a thought - did rossing want jens kept locked up because he might come out and testify that sogaard (who had just been promoted to major, with much fanfare) had actually been the officer who went bonkers? that would be serious egg on face for the powers that be - is that the cover up, to save the government the embarrassment?

MelinaM · 03/12/2011 23:52

I'm analysing findings on the Guardian blog, shall be back to sum upXmas Grin

OP posts:
MelinaM · 04/12/2011 00:00

Well apparently the killer was running away from the church with a limp, didn't Bilal injure his leg?

According to GB Monberg has killed himself (after Buch's questioning), nooo, I just think he's done a runner!

That's an excellent possibility teej, it will all come down to the government in the end won't it?!

OP posts:
teejwood · 04/12/2011 00:04

no - monberg topped himself - they found him on the ground at the bottom of the staircase
the government will be the reason why the killer is still at large, but the killing will be all the killer's own work i think..

ohh - good point - guardian blog - need to go and have a nosey...

MelinaM · 04/12/2011 00:06

Ohhh thank you, I missed that bit!!!

Yes do, lots of interesting theories!

OP posts:
crunchbag · 04/12/2011 00:23

Sassy I thought it sounded different but wasn't too sure. Did Lund speak Swedish with the local police?

teej that is a lot of deep thinking for a Saturday night :o
Interesting angle though, hmmm lots to think about.
And we have to keep an eye on creepy Rossing.

mousysantamouse · 04/12/2011 09:45

lund certainly sounded differently when speaking to the swedish police.

mousysantamouse · 04/12/2011 09:46

good evaluation teej so what method(s) are left for the last 4 episodes?

Sassyfrassy · 04/12/2011 10:22

No Lund kept on speaking Danish. The two languages are really similar so Swedish and Danish people can usually understand each other fairly well.

diddl · 04/12/2011 13:13

Just caught Eps 1 & 2 on iplayer as we already have something installed to let us watch iplayer!

Just about to embark on Ep 3!

maras2 · 04/12/2011 14:58

Anyone else starting to think Thomas Buch? hmmmmm maybe.

diddl · 04/12/2011 16:12

So-had a break to walk the dog & now here goes Ep4-then I´ll be ready for what I recorded last night!

I thought that TB was being manipulated by the PM?

mousysantamouse · 04/12/2011 16:20

buch?

PommePoire · 04/12/2011 17:24

Episode 6 for me tonight, I've only glanced over recent posts as I'm fearful of finding out anything spoilerish subsequent to Episode 5. Can't wait! Then will be back to re-scan all the MN theories and study the updated whiteboard.

Things I loved in Episode 5:
Use of background music; more than usually apt and spooky.
Strange seemed to be lower in profile and there was more focus on Lund's super sleuthing sixth sense as a consequence.
The way the writers have built the viewers sense of sympathy with Jens e.g. his panicked shout to Thompsen to 'stop!' then undermined it by showing him take the gun by force then bringing us back again by having the priest turn the gun on him. Talk about a roller coaster.
Lund's striding around the barracks willy nilly (see what I did there?) so fixed with purpose that she rises above mere trivia such as entering male locker room and indeed, shower to get her man.
Buch's arc is fascinating. I really dislike Plough and have started (bizarrely) to find the way he stands looking exasperated at everything Buch does, ressembles John Inman in 'Are You Being Served?' Xmas Smile

crunchbag · 04/12/2011 19:13

I think Buch is more set up as a fall guy. If it is someone in the ministry of defence it will be someone more in the back ground, like Rossing or Buch's boss.

I think Plough is hiding something but can't see him being involved.

Great acting again, especially regarding Lund's desperate believe that Perk wan't in the coffin.

maras2 · 04/12/2011 19:57

No no no.I meant that I would (perhaps) not that he was the baddy.

FayKnights · 04/12/2011 21:37

Right, I've finally caught up with my viewing on IPlayer, I'd only seen episodes 1 and 2 so have just had a Killing-fest and am now ready to read the thread and see all of your theories. I may be some time...
