I wondered which one was Herschels wife as well Hmm

The Rick & Shane relationship is the most interesting one in the group. I think the key to it is the conversation they had in the woods about their teenage love lives. In high school Shane was the successful uber-jock with Rick living in his shadow. At some point the roles were reversed and Shane hasn't ever really adjusted. Rick now has everything Shane wants - leadership, a family etc etc. I think Shane really does love Rick on one level, and there are scenes where that shows through (just after Carl's shooting). But he also envies him and is beginning to hate him. I doubt if even Shane knows what he feels any more. I think he was being completely sincere when he took aim at Rick in the woods and completely sincere when he told Dale that he loved Rick like a brother.

anonacfr · 06/12/2011 10:18

I completely agree.
I believe the hate is taking over now. It's also contempt for Rick's 'weakness'. That's why I genuinely believe he didn't kill Sophia because he couldn't bring himself too rather than to protect his or Rick's position in the group.
The group were shocked when they saw Rick emerging from the woods leading a walker with a cattle thingie- Shane was in a position of strength and seeing as he was going on at Lori about being a better protector for her it would have been telling if he'd killed walker Sophia.

He's a tough guy but he's ultimately a coward. That's why he's so dangerous.

Huge kudos to the actor btw. He manages to make a psychotic murdering rapist the most interesting character of the show.

Ok so shall we reconvene back here in feb 2012GrinGrin I've really enjoyed this thread!

notyummy · 07/12/2011 15:00

Are you talking about the one with Thomas Jane in it (The Mist?) I enjoyed that and yes, endings was a shockers. Have read the Stephen King novella years ago, and enjoyed it.

JKSLtd · 07/12/2011 16:46

Yes, see you in Feb :)

anonacfr · 07/12/2011 20:10

notyummy that's the one. There was a surprisingly good cast. Nutty religious lady was played by an Oscar winner if I remember correctly.

Speaking of books and book clubs, any suggestions?

notyummy · 07/12/2011 20:15

The Passage by ...erm... Justin somebody? Will def be on Amazon. Great stuff. Vampire/zombie apocalypse but v well written.

anonacfr · 07/12/2011 20:25

Yep. I loved it. I was crushed when I realised it was a trilogy.

Melty · 07/12/2011 20:55

As recommended on here I ordered the mist and it's arrived I'm very excitedGrin but feeling a bit nervous it looks scary!!

Eggrules · 09/12/2011 12:17

Off to look for The Passage by Justin Cronin on Kindle. Long wait for next two 'The Twelve and The City of Mirrors are due to be released in 2012 and in 2014, respectively'.

notyummy · 09/12/2011 12:51

Yes, The Mist actually very similar themes to Walking Dead. The monsters, whilst real and scary, are actually only the backdrop to what is an expose on human nature at its best and worst. Basically what we are prepared to do when it all falls apart. (Schindlers List, anyone? I mentioned earlier that DH had mentioned the parallels to trying to hide from the Nazis with a small child when we were discussing what Lori should do about the pregnancy.) And they are not just 'monster/zombie' flicks - very well acted.

susiedaisy · 09/12/2011 13:04

notyummy it sounds goodSmile

AWimbaAllTheWay · 09/12/2011 13:39

I'm watching zombieland tonight. I think a rather less serious take on the genre so interested to see what it's likme.

Also planning on ordering The Mist, sounds good.

anonacfr · 09/12/2011 13:59

Best zombie movie has to be Shaun of the Dead though... Grin

AWimbaAllTheWay · 09/12/2011 14:02

Totally agree anon Grin

notyummy · 09/12/2011 14:02

Hope you enjoy it Smile. Dh and I did, and from memory, the critics were pretty kind to it as well.

notyummy · 09/12/2011 14:03

Oh yes. Shaun is a classic.

roundcornsilkvirgin · 09/12/2011 14:36

I looked at the mist on wiki - terrifying!

susiedaisy · 09/12/2011 16:43

Zombieland good, bit Tongue in cheek but has a few jumpy moments I enjoyed it!

susiedaisy · 09/12/2011 16:44

Shaun of the dead great film zombies still make me jump!Smile

limitedperiodonly · 09/12/2011 16:46

I love Shaun of the Dead. I held out for ages through snobbery but it's great.

I got a bit bored by Zombieland.

I liked the remake of Dawn of the Dead from a few years ago. Particularly the zombie birth scene and the bit where the survivors got bored and started picking off celebrity-lookalike zombies from the roof of the shopping mall. Or maybe they weren't lookalikes.

notyummy · 09/12/2011 16:50

I also liked Dawn of the Dead remake. Was that the one with the hero dog that runs through the zombies with messages?
