Starts tomorrow night at 10pm in case you didn't already know!

And the last episode of Season 1 is on before in case you need to remember what happened

I was thinking that about the MAP - the real one would be locked away anyhow.

They've got cars (for shagging in), so why plod up to the pharmacy with tempting horsemeat?? Just clean the shelves, stick it in the boot and get the vet to go through it!

So.... is Shane going to set fire to the barn then?

Melty · 27/11/2011 10:38

Have been reading World War Z.
I have to say I'm not blown away by it really.
There was just far too many stories; it would have been a better read with fewer but longer stories where characters could have been developed. It doesn't flow that well, and I found myself skim reading some of it because I was bored.
I would have liked to read more about some of the characters, (Although they were a bit strereotyped) like the Japanese cyber dude, or the blind gardener, or life on the nuclear submarine. I wanted to know more about the female fighter pilot and the K-9 unit. I wasn't interested in the government blah blah meetings or the military weapons discussions.
And clearly written by an american; the I love Her Majesty the Queen bit made me roll my eyes a bit.

I recently read a vampire series that was quite good. (Sort of anti Twilight-none of this shimmering in sunlight nonsense) Joe Pitt is a vampire PI, a bit of a loner and the anti hero. He's not your usual sexy and dangerous brooding vampire. Bill Compton or Eric Northman he is not! Well, he is dangerous. It's very dark, written in a crime novel noir style. It's a bit gruesome at times. Vampires are vampyre, and they have a vyrus.
The formatting is a bit odd : no chapters or page breaks (althugh maybe it was my kindle) When a character speaks, its prefixed with --

--So basically the conversation reads like this.
--Really?
--Yep
--Ok.
but once you get over that, its pretty decent and I flew through it.

I have a question - why were they feeding the zombies the poor chickens? Surely zombies don't need to eat?

Unless it is b'cos they wanted to 'look after' them as they were/are family. Hm have I just answered my own question there Hmm

AWimbaWay · 27/11/2011 17:28

Had this discussion with dh Ponyo, apparently they do need to eat! I can't remember but apparently in 28 days later the zombies starved to death.

ILovePonyo · 27/11/2011 19:59

I don't remember that in 28 days later, ooh maybe I'll watch it again. Its odd though, I was thinking about the zombe girl in the first episode who only had her top half - if they are still alive like that why would they need regular food?

This may sound controversial (and I'm not trying to be) but if I was in Lori's situation I really don't think I could have the baby. There isn't anything positive is there - the crying would attract zombies if they were on the move, babies need food constantly when they're older not just whenever you can, there is a good chance the baby and/or his family might face a horrible end at the hands of the walkers etc etc, plus she doesn't even know if its Egg or Shanes! (I am aware I have been thinking about this too much Grin)

Melty · 27/11/2011 20:13

Ponyo, I don't think they need regular food exactly, but I think the need to eat is just a primal thing. And they like their food warm and wiggly.
When they did the autopsy on the walker, they pulled out a squirrel or woodchuck or something, but it was recognisable. They don't have working digestive systems, some of them have bits missing so I would imagine food doesnt go anywhere. It's not a hunger for a nice steak (or chicken!) dinner.
I think Herschel and Patricia are feeding them chickens in a misguided attempt to keep them alive.

As for the pregnancy, I see where you are coming from, but I am not sure that you or I would be able to have a termination. Who would do it? We wouldnt know where to source the pills (and which kind of pills) so it would need to be surgical. Back to back street abortions where women died from infections.

And I think Lori seems pretty certain that the baby is Ricks. I have to assume that she knows the workings of her cycle better than I do. Grin

ILovePonyo · 27/11/2011 20:19

Yes agree with you about the feeding being misguided, good point.

Argh its such a conundrum about the pregnancy, if she had not thrown up the pills they might have worked, but might have led to horrible complications making life even harder. No way would I be having a back street abortion so yep, not much choice there really Confused

I think Lori doens't know whose baby it is but she wants it to be Ricks so thats what she is trying to convince herself (hope enough and it might come true)

ttendai · 28/11/2011 00:21

Best show ever!!!!!GrinGrinGrinGrin

susiedaisy · 28/11/2011 01:35

In both 28 days and 28 weeks later the zombies took around 6 months to starve to death ( I think) but they def did need food to survive

susiedaisy · 28/11/2011 01:36

I do agree with the runs to the pharmacy, just take all you can carry for gods sake not a little piddly shopping listAngry

Melty · 28/11/2011 02:57

In 28 days later they werent exactly the same as our zombies though. Wasn't it a man made blood borne virus or something that infected people with the "rage" when the monkeys escaped? But TWD zombies reanimate after dying.
Also our heroes seem to be covered in blood guts and gore and still don't get infected. And as yet we dont know how it started.
Might have to watch 28 days later again. (Can't believe I went to see that in the cinema by myself. I was really scared all the way home, at 4pm Grin .)

susiedaisy · 28/11/2011 05:37

Ok I'm on a night shift and find myself with time on my hands and have looked at the fb page for walking dead, big spoilers on it so don't look if you don't want to know, but wow it seems our last episode is a good one GrinGrin

susiedaisy · 28/11/2011 05:40

The scariest part of 28 days for me was the man going In to the church and shouting 'hello' and suddenly the zombies sat up and turned around!! Scared the shit out of me! As for 28 weeks the whole thing frightened the life out of me for weeksBlush

notyummy · 28/11/2011 08:06

Good point about the 'infected' in 28 Days Later - we can't use them as a point of reference as they are not true zombies Wink.

Loved that film. Very clever, and with some great performances. Classic scenes of ravaged London - and bloody car alarm going off in the silence. What a fright!

Watched Friday's episode last night and quite enjoyed it, although Andrea is still bloody annoying me. Can understand why Lori wouldn't want a baby tbh - the whole noise/no future thing is quite haunting, as DH was comparing it to Jewish people hiding in ghettos as they cleared them, and the utter terror of trying to keep a baby quiet Sad.

notyummy · 28/11/2011 08:07

Sorry - have probably brought the mood down a bit there....

EmmaRoyd · 28/11/2011 12:32

I thought it was an actual abortion pill she wanted rather than MAP but I agree she wouldn't have known the medical name for it and it wouldn't have had 'abortion pill' written on the packet!

Good point about having a car but going to the pharmacy on a horse! didn't think of that.

So if zombies like chickens they definitely could have dangled one down the well instead of using Glenn a few weeks back.

And the bit where Andrea turned from crap shot, to crack shot just by shooting one walker at close range gets my vote for most unrealistic moment so far.

Melty whats the name of that vampire book?

Melty · 28/11/2011 13:36

Emma, the first one was called: Already Dead, by Charlie Huston.

EmmaRoyd · 28/11/2011 13:39

thanks. Loving your comments on this thread by the way Grin

snuffaluffagus · 28/11/2011 15:34

I love the tension in the walking dead, that's the best thing about it.. but they DO need some stronger female characters, Andrea needs to man up and we need somebody to start kicking some arse.

Also, I

susiedaisy · 28/11/2011 16:11

Yeah the women are bot portrayed well in this series and Wtf was Carls comment about to lori about being a housewife AngryConfusedHmm

susiedaisy · 28/11/2011 16:11

Not portrayed well

wintera · 28/11/2011 16:51

Andrea has possibilities for being a good female character. She is annoying me this season but I still have faith that she could become a good character. I liked her is the first season so am hopeful that she will turn out ok again. Mind you, shagging Shane is not a wise move though, he makes my skin crawl! Yuck! Glad someone has mentioned the similarity between the the walking dead survivors and the persecution of the Jews. The thought occurred to me too. I remember seeing something about how hard it was to keep babies quiet while the Nazis were searching for them. I like this season but I do think they need to get a move on with the episodes, it's too slow moving. If you think about the time line it's probably only been a few weeks since Rick awoke from his coma. Plus the kid who plays Carl will start getting bigger and bigger soon so they really do need to move it forward a bit or it won't make sense!

Melty · 28/11/2011 19:23

Just watched Ep 7.

The people are more dangerous than the Zombies.
Awesome ending.
Shane is a psycho. Egg did us proud.

I will say no more until you guys get a chance to watch it.

Candid · 28/11/2011 19:27

The pregnancy situation is a nightmare. When I think of the nightmare birth I had with ds2 (emergency c-section, haemorraging, huge blood loss, transfusion) I just think it's so frightening to have to go through a birth with no medical facilities. Then there all the issues of bringing up the baby.

The women are portrayed terribly and I think the show is dragging a bit. It's very slow paced and becoming a bit dull.
