Ladies....as we were?

OP posts:
ScatterChasse · 25/10/2011 20:58

Even ladies' hunters? (not disagreeing btw, I honestly have no idea!)

ILoveDolly · 25/10/2011 20:58

In this weeks episode Matthew suddenly gave a startle, said 'I thought I..' then 'Oh nevermind' and everything carried on. Surely in the TV Drama signposting code this was a hint that his revelation in the next episode is that he is not quite as dead from the waist down as previously thought. I mean, WW1 medical knowledge about spinal injuries was doubtless far less advanced than today. ?????

ScatterChasse · 25/10/2011 21:02

Ooh, I have a gramophone like that!

Animation · 25/10/2011 21:18

Do you mean he gets an erection and lets people know?

Blush
josephinebonaparte · 25/10/2011 21:21

Half as many horses as men died in WW1

ThePsychicSatsuma · 25/10/2011 21:25

well those promo pics show isobel gazing adoringly at lord 6 ... once cora sneezes herself to death (the funeral) mebbes iz gets the married bed with cuddly Robert

ILoveDolly · 25/10/2011 21:42

isobel and Fatlord G? Yeuch. I'd rather see him marry Patmore

ThePsychicSatsuma · 25/10/2011 21:57

therefore
funeral = cora
wedding sir R & Mary
then annulled as it turns out he is ALREADY MARRIED and mrs'ex-now-dead-Bates FOUND OUT and was attempting to blackmail him so he had her killed
and sex - Fatlord 6 & Jane, Thomas happens by and slips in as number 3

ILoveDolly · 25/10/2011 21:58

boak

ILoveDolly · 25/10/2011 21:59

I reckon O'Brien killed Mrs Ex-Bates or had her contacts do it. She looks like the kind of woman who knows people who can obtain arsenic

Bossybritches22 · 25/10/2011 23:00

Over a million horses were shipped over to France for ww1, less than 200,00 made it back as by the end it was deemed too expensive to repatriate them.

At one stage over a 1000 a day were shipped over from the US.

Many were sold off by the British Army to the French & Belgians & not as pets .

shotinfoot · 25/10/2011 23:18

Given how quickly they have rocketed through world war I, the Spanish flu will be over by part 3 on Sunday.

It would all be lovely if Mary married the evil Richard, then he died so she got all the cash. I doubt it though.

And the imposter is very very unconvincing. All a little too convenient.
But did Edith realise he wasn't real over the whole governess bit? Did I get that wrong? I thought he talked about tormenting the evil governess, then mary remembered him hiding in fear from her and Edith realised his memories were wrong.

Or have a made bits up again Blush

BustersOfDoom · 25/10/2011 23:56

The woman who plays O'Brien also plays Janice in Benidorm. She's been in loads of stuff. She was in Emmerdale for a while too.

And yes the horses. I saw War Horse earlier this year and cried like a baby. So very sad. Both the human and animal losses on both sides.

I too think Daisy might give her widow's pension to Ethel. I know Mrs Hughes is being kind giving her food but she does seem to take every opportunity she can to rub her nose in it, pointing out her situation is all her own fault over and over again. Having an illegitimate child didn't automatically mean the workhouse. My GG grandmother was illegitimate (born 1855) and her mother supported both of them through a number of unpleasant, menial jobs until she married and eventually became a lodging house owner where she and her husband took in commercial travellers and the like. She was lucky I know.

Anyway. I think Edith has become my favourite somehow. I think her helping the injured officers has mellowed her, so much so that she was taken in by the imposter. She doesn't have the spirit that Mary and Sybil have.

And that Richard bloke is a nasty piece of work. I don't trust him an inch!

limitedperiodonly · 26/10/2011 00:59

"Many were sold off by the British Army to the French & Belgians & not as pets ."

You're talking about hamburgers, aren't you? Go ahead, I can take it Sad

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 26/10/2011 07:43

Still happens limited, DDs fave meat in both Switzerland and Belgium was horse.
I can't wait until Sunday, my friend and I were talking about how soap opera it had been this series, but agreed we will carry on watching.

Bossybritches22 · 26/10/2011 08:38

Sorry limited yes...Sad

Like Buster I saw War Horse, (go see it fab production & vair thought-provoking) which made me look at the figures closer.

As Josephine said twice as many men were killed, it was a futile loss of life, both man & horse , for a few miles of muddy field. Sad

But enough of damned Real Life....on with the gossip & speculation.

GUESS which member of the cast was one of those superinjunction people a while back for playing away .....(got to be careful here)

Longtime · 26/10/2011 08:54

Yes rips and limited, there are a couple of horse restaurants here in Brussels (that I know of - most probably more). I've never been in one and have never bought horse.

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 26/10/2011 10:17

Looking at those spoiler photos this one is especially cringe-worthy:

www.spoilertv.co.uk/images/downton-abbey/season-2/promotional-episode-photos/Episode%202.07/DOWNTON_ABBEY_EP7_10%5B1%5D.jpg.php

They look like they should be wearing one of those matching vintage sweater sets.

With one episode left until XMAS I don't suppose we'll find out Lav's dirty little secret either, will we AITCH?!

Bossy, wasn't the super injunction to prevent a girl called JANE saying anything to the media?

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 26/10/2011 10:31

BTW psychic I agree Vera Bates found out something about Sir R she tried to use against him.

At some point before this thread closes i say we need a round up of where MN has gotten it right...!

diddl · 26/10/2011 10:42

I thought that we already knew Lavinia´s secret?

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 26/10/2011 10:56

I thought the consensus on MN anyway was that there was MORE TO IT though.

diddl · 26/10/2011 11:06

WEll it might be the consensus, but it doesn´t mean that there is more!

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 26/10/2011 11:10

Oh I know that. But if we took that view to it's final conclusion we wouldn't be on message 899 on the second thread. And what fun would that be?!

diddl · 26/10/2011 11:16

Doesn´t anyone think what she did was bad enough, then-in the context of the time?

Or is it that everyone hates her so much?

Georgimama · 26/10/2011 11:19

bossy we all know that I think (and be careful, apart from anything else we don't want our lovely thread deleted).
