Yay Smile

I loved series 1

Oh bollocks to that. They all wanted to win. I just think Holly wasn't particularly easy to warm to. It's got nothing to do with achieving women. In fact, I think it's great that Jo won precisely because she feels she hasn't yet achieved her potential (though it looks as if she's done a good job with her sons).

Ephiny · 06/10/2011 13:30

I agree, of course they all wanted to win, and it looked to me as though everyone was working pretty hard (though Janet had a bit of a laid-back attitude to practice!). Some of them just seemed like nicer people than others, as far as you can tell from edited snippets we got of course.

Would love to see Jo go on to achieve all she can (not that raising a lovely family isn't an achievement in itself of course).

vanfurgston · 06/10/2011 13:59

i was rooting for holly. i love confident women

bamboostalks · 06/10/2011 14:07

Loved Holly. Thought I could have had a great old chat with her. She is being unfairly maligned. Holly if you are reading, I am sure you are v. sweet and real.

OldBroom · 06/10/2011 14:49

I'm not British, so it's not a particularly British attitude. You can do demographic analysis on this show. Holly's a product of the Thatcher years (and yes I've lived here since then): assessment-driven, anxious, anal, and ever-so-slightly selfish. 'In OUR house Father Christmas always has cheesecake'; give me a break! Compare her to her older competition: laid back, adventurous, self-deprecating women who know they're not perfect, and can live with it. If the future is Holly, heaven help us.

OK, she's probably very nice. In the end, we see only what the TV wants us to.

vanfurgston · 06/10/2011 14:55

i liked the the fact that she was not self-deprecating. she was self-assured and positive. thats how she came across to me.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 06/10/2011 16:48

I don't dislike her for her confidence, just her anal-seeming nature (and yes, I know there's judicious editing). Her stuff was very precise and well presented but I didn't feel that she cooked with any passion (like Mary Ann) or love and a desire to feed people she loved (the feeling I got from Jo and Janet).

HazeltheMcWitch · 06/10/2011 19:13

Don't forget all GBBO fans - tonight @ 8 is Masterclass part 1.

No news yet whether the squirrel will be making an appearance.

GwendolineScaryLacey · 06/10/2011 20:05

I wish I liked battenburg...

HazeltheMcWitch · 06/10/2011 20:13

Same... But am really liking Salty Dog tonight tho!

Jux · 06/10/2011 20:31

Gwendoline, I'm not too keen on Battenburg myself, until I ate my friend's chocolate Battenburg. Now that was yum!!

Gigondas · 06/10/2011 20:42

Can't believe I missed the startAngry

I usually hate focaccia but this is making me hungry

schroeder · 06/10/2011 20:42

Yawn city, this masterclass thing is a disaster!

I'm not keen on the bloke, he comes across as a bit of an arse.

Mary berry hasn't got much charisma on the telly.

meh

SausageSmuggler · 06/10/2011 20:57

I don't really like how Paul is being a bit condesending to Mary. I did like her tip on rolling out pastry using the bottom of the tin though.

mrszimmerman · 07/10/2011 12:36

Oh I quite liked their relationship today, they do respect each other I think.

Can't believe Jo won! And Holly really thought she had it in the bag bless her, spitting tacks!

ppeatfruit · 07/10/2011 13:16

The masterclass was highly illuminating! the way M.B. was anal about the weights and 'salty' threw the salt in to the foccacia !!!! without weighing or putting it into a little spoon OMG!!! Shock. It still turned out well though!! in fact M.B. was orgasming over it wasn't she?

oldbroom IMO it's the personalities of Holly and the older women, look at how anal Mary Berry is and she must be in her 70ies you can't say all Thatcher's children are like Holly any more than they're all like Jo.

GwendolineScaryLacey · 07/10/2011 15:30

That foccacia looked like an oil slick. He didn't really sell it!

I like Mary and the tinge of disapproval around the edges of her mouth :o She quite clearly thought he was a bit slack of a maverick last night.

Katisha · 07/10/2011 15:44

Wish Salty would take his rings off before he starts getting in there with his mitts. Not hugely keen on Mary's nails either.

If you had never made foccaccia before you would have NO IDEA that it was meant to look that revolting during the process, escpecially if half the instructions were left off as per usual technical challenge. Not a fair one I feel.

VikingBloodAllOverTheWalls · 07/10/2011 16:22

And did anyone notice that Mary was dipping her focaccia in... OLIVE OIL at the end. Would you like a little flour with your olive oil m'am?

GwendolineScaryLacey · 07/10/2011 16:38

True it was a tall order. I mean, any idiot knows that battenburg is four coloured squares of cake wrapped in evil marzipan so you could lash it up if you needed to. I wouldn't have had a clue about the foccacia (and nor would my trusty Panasonic 255) :)

ppeatfruit · 07/10/2011 17:59

No i thought that was unfair of salty too katisha he also mentioned that the Italians make it thin and the brits make it thick. So how were they supposed to know that ?

The olive oil is the best bit IMO Viking!!

Jux · 07/10/2011 19:04

People eat foccaccia without dipping it in olive oil? Shock

purpleknittingmum · 07/10/2011 20:49

My OH ended up watching the last 2 shows with me and I want him to see when Rob dropped the cake, and I cannot find it (crap at searching on internet sometimes emoticon) Is it anywhere? Thanks!

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 07/10/2011 20:56

Should be here :)

purpleknittingmum · 07/10/2011 20:57

Ooo thanks! I thought it would be on youtube, and had to update adobeflash thing, I am pathtetic at times online!! :o
