Yes the running made me think of Clarice Starling in silence Of The Lambs.

bettys · 07/07/2011 21:25

And no one is attractive, least of Troels whatever-his-American-name-is.

SpareOhs · 07/07/2011 21:27

Ohhh, have just seen 'Troels' - not a patch on the original.

I can't watch without thinking of Lars Mikkelsen's cheekbones and, frankly, this new guy does not measure up.

Finbar · 07/07/2011 21:27

NOt an Ikea chandelier in sight!

Finbar · 07/07/2011 21:28

Yes it IS the original plink plonk music - that's a bonus

peggotty · 07/07/2011 21:31

Right. We don't have to have someone to fancy to make it worth watching . But he's minging. The American Sarah's sidekick reminds me a bit of Mackenzie Crook actually.

spinaltap · 07/07/2011 22:19

He does look like mackenzie crook. At least the weather is just as miserable. I'm quite impressed with the casting overall so far. Is it really a different killer? Have I got the energy to watch it all again to find out? Hmm

brightidea · 07/07/2011 22:20

yes to Mackenzie c.

Some Ikea kitchenware!

( quite like it !)

spinaltap · 07/07/2011 22:21

and I really miss troels!

culturemulcher · 07/07/2011 23:35

It wasn't tooo bad, a bit like The Killling on fast forward.

But couldn't they have given us a better Troels? He's just not attractive. I was looking forward to a new lust and feel a bit cheated.

TheFarSide · 08/07/2011 01:34

Is it true that they are changing who the killer is?

acatcalledbob · 08/07/2011 01:45

I'm on episode 9 of this series. Haven't watched the Swedish version (am doing it back to front I know!) but quite enjoying the dark, slightly edgy filming, murder with political thread. Loved Spiral and this is as good as I could get to follow that.

Wolfgirl · 08/07/2011 09:14

peggotty - checks all in place LOL. And finbar - yes, music same - which I thought added that moving touch to it all, bought a tear or two to my eyes anyway. Confession though, I did fall asleep half way through, but that means I can do catch up at some point.

I thought it was good tbh; the politicians girlfriend... well, 3/10 for the casting there.

culturemulcher · 08/07/2011 10:56

FarSide I read somewhere (Guardian?) that the whole ending was going to be different, with a different killer.

I found the scene where 'Penille' finds out that her daughter is dead over the phone just as moving as the original. In fact, I was actually crying all over again.

So, who's going to keep watching next week?

OP posts:
peggotty · 08/07/2011 11:01

Hmm I've not decided yet culture. I still feel like I'm being a bit unfaithful Grin. I wasn't keen on the guy who plays the father. He wasn't 'low key' enough iykwim, the actor is the original was so fantastic and understated.

TooTiredToArgue · 08/07/2011 13:40

Well, sorry everyone, but I hated it! Just didn't have the class of the original. Hearing the original music made me long for the real version. And I'm sorry, but cannot bear the Troels replacement. He looks like some naff comedian, not a sultry hunk with cheek bones to die for.

elliott · 08/07/2011 14:52

I hated it too. The main actors really lacked the charisma and subtlety of the original- especially troels, morten and meier replacements. Funny how it seemed to lose so much in translation! Best character probably pernille.
I also thought it was weird the way the whole look of some scenes (eg theis and pernille's kitchen) were copied and yet other stuff was changed a bit naffly (meier on dope).
I'm not sure I can bear to watch any more. Though it is interesting to see what they think transposes culturally and what has been changed (Lund wasn't going to marry bengt was she?? And to American teenagers actually cycle?)

fluffles · 08/07/2011 14:57

teenagers probably do cycle and fish in seattle.. i think seattle was a wise choice, can't imagine it working anywhere else in the US.. and it DOES rain all the time there.

TheFarSide · 08/07/2011 15:15

Cheers culturemulcher

acatcalledbob · 08/07/2011 15:17

Just about to watch the last episode (13) of the US version. It's a bit all over the place and not in a rollercoasty-twisty way. I wish it would stop bloody raining though, I'm getting sidetracked about how they get into cars soaking wet and worrying about sopping trouser legs.... It can't possibly rain that much anywhere on the planet.

Highlander · 08/07/2011 16:21

It was beyond shit. The acting was just ghastly.

culturemulcher · 08/07/2011 19:34

I was expecting it to be utterly dire, so I was actually pleasantly surprised. It did keep reminding me of The X Files, though, which is disconcerting and not in a good way.

OP posts:
acatcalledbob · 09/07/2011 01:22

It stops raining in episode 13 at last! There is a twist at the end.... Off to see if I can find the Swedish original now...

potterschmotter · 09/07/2011 11:13

i thought it was quite good, didn't watch the original one though, is it online somewhere? or on iplayer?
