Case Histories - isn't Cambridge photogenic enough?

Somewhat baffled with the BBC version of Kate Atkinson's book. Book is about Cambridge, TV is set in Edinburgh. Jackson Brodie was no hunk in the book ...

Oh yes so she was! (Showing age)

CeliaFate · 10/06/2011 10:52

bigbadbarry "she's the one Milly decked at the end of This Life, isn't she." Those were my EXACT words to dh when I saw her! Grin Oldies unite!

kitkatya · 10/06/2011 15:29

I dont know why they changed his inheritence, it doesnt make sense to me.

I would also like to deck Julia. Is she going to be in the next two? Very annoying.

A really stupid question now. I dont feel like Ive read the book, although I thought I had. Why did he keep quiet about it all?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 15:34

Christ, are we oldies because we remember This Life?

In my defence, it was repeated in about 2000.

I could claim that that was the first time I saw it but it wasn't

peachsmuggler · 10/06/2011 19:00

kitkat, I think he kept quiet about Olivia because he knew it would only upset Julia and Amelia more and they had been through enough. He is more sort of helping people find peace and closure, than looking for justice IYSWIM.

I suspect they changed the inheritance story so they can cut a lot of stuff to fit in the show, e.g. I bet they bin the Tessa storyline as involves too much passage of time. I think they will keep him as a PI rather than him just wandering about just happening to get involved in the storylines.

beachholiday · 10/06/2011 19:15

Am looking forward to Jackson's underwater scene in One Good Turn and hoping that inspires lots more gratuitous shirtless scenes.

kitkatya · 10/06/2011 20:00

Of course, I never thought about him just getting himself into these situations. What's next? Is it the Edinburgh Festival one? I only read them a couple of years ago but I can hardly remember any details!! What's going to happen when the books are finished if it's popular?

kitkatya · 10/06/2011 20:02

Ps what accent are we giving Jackson? I'm guessing Yorkshire but I think he's a scouser in real life. He sounds like Sean Bean!! Who, btw, I think would have been a great Jackson.

DaisySteiner · 10/06/2011 20:54

Loved this, despite the lack of Cambridge Angry

Can just imagine the thread title: 'AIBU for killing my BIL with an axe?'

Those of you who think Phil Davis looks creepy - he is the spitting image of my FIL Shock (who is marginally less creepy)

HeidiKat · 11/06/2011 19:01

BettyTurnip I thought the Gillian McKeith thing about Amelia too, almost expected her to pretend faint Grin.

I didn't really understand the bit where Sylvia killed Olivia, was the saint not just in Sylvia's head telling her to kill Olivia to protect her from her father, because it looked like Olivia could see it too?

I felt so sorry for Tania as a baby, can't imagine screeching at my DD to just shut up, was kind of on the husband's side on that one, she did seem like a selfish bitch.

SlobbyBOB · 12/06/2011 03:26

DW and me really enjoyed this.

Anyway regarding the dress.
Any one recorded it and could check the credits for costume design etc

The series is produced by Ruby Film and Television and Monastic Productions.
so contacting them may be worth a shot.

lucyspangle · 12/06/2011 09:41

wildstrawberryplace · 12/06/2011 22:15

OK slightly confused here.

Watched last week, went to watch on iplayer tonight - did I miss an episode?

When is it supposed to be on, 2 nights a week?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/06/2011 22:24

Yes, it was on on Sunday and Monday last week, tonight was episode 3.

wildstrawberryplace · 12/06/2011 22:47

Thanks. Couldn't really tell from iPlayer. Watching now Smile

Ooh I am really rather wishing you hadn't posted that link - my bank balance is not going to thank you!

onlyaname · 13/06/2011 11:21

Sorry! Lots of lovely stuff on their website. I'll be browsing later.

Orlando · 13/06/2011 17:28

Well done onlyaname!!

I was coming along to say that I'm really surprised no-one's popped up on the internet to take credit for the much-coveted bluebirds dress, so thanks for both those links. Will sleep easily for the first time in a week tonight!

kitkatya · 13/06/2011 18:00

Ive walked past that shop loads of times. Never really drew me in, too many patterns under one roof!! Its one of those where the cups match the skirts. And the sizes look tiny.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 13/06/2011 22:20

onlyaname Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

(Still hope it's in stock in a few month's time as I'm broke...maybe we could collectively purchase it and own it - like a racehorse Grin)

Kitty0608 · 14/06/2011 09:43

thatwouldbe & orlando Get Cutie does a similar dress to Julia's. Not sure if it's the same but if you look on their website they do a fabric called Bluebirds which is very nice!
