A thread for the discussion of West Wing - the best tv show ever made!

If you haven't seen all 7 Seasons be aware that this thread may contain spoilers!

I don't remember that. What series is that OhmeoOhmyo ?

I had hoped that there might be some kind of 'back story' with CJ and Greg Brock but think you're probably right. He helped her with the Hoynes book so it was probably just a mutual appreciation society. Intriguing though.

tribpot · 30/05/2011 12:25

Surely CJ wouldn't have played (to mis-quote Ainsley) "the cat to Greg's mouse in the game of - well, you know the game" (Leo: "cat and mouse?") about a military space shuttle. Surely. Very intriguing.

Bartlet's Third State of the Union was series 2.

Sorry my post didn't make sense as I was drunk posting on my phone. Anyway I was saying that if Santos had indeed been unfaithful to his gorgeous wife, and Vinick knew that, it made perfect political sense to make Vinick Secretary of State at the end as he would then have a vested interest in keeping this a secret.

Interesting - although I bought the brother story.

tribpot · 30/05/2011 14:50

I thought that was probably what you meant - but these are honourable men. I think Santos made Vinick SoS because he was the best person for the job (much as I like to hope that Obama's motives with Hillary were the same!).

Thinking about it, one of the bigger tricks they missed in the Santos campaign was not making Helen more like Michelle Obama. That would have made her a lot more interesting. Maybe they thought it'd be too implausible for the American public :)

TinyPawz · 30/05/2011 17:13

I totally believed the Santos brother story too, all the more when he is introduced to us (the audience), seemed very plausible.

Loved the introduction of Lou to spar with Josh. Very clever lady and kept Josh on his toes. A lot of the new characters were very enjoyable and I suppose what you would expect with a new campaign, new democratic talent.

I never really understood why Bruno didn;t have his team with him on the vinick campaign, Connie and Doug. He demanded that they form the team for Bartlett reelect.

The Belast photojournalist pissed me off and Joshs reaction to him. So many assumptions about NI politics were made although very clever of the writing team to subliminaly equate occupation of Palestine with occupation of north of Ireland.

*Belfast

Just thinking we could add justification to our obsession by claiming that WW has expanded our general knowledge. So 2 examples, on the big block of cheese day when the have the Cartographers for equality on and they freak CJ out with their accurate world map. I knew the one widely used wasn't completely geographically correct but didn't realise how wrong it was. Also thanks to WW I now know why the sky is blue (NASA lady who takes Josh out to look through get telescope). Must watch more episodes again to learn more stuff Smile

tribpot · 30/05/2011 19:12

TinyPawz, you didn't like Lucius Malfoy??!!

Fuzzywood - we also know the Latin for yam, the FDA recommendation for cooking turkey stuffing, which fruit has seeds on the outside ...

TinyPawz · 30/05/2011 19:45

I had to google Lucius Malfoy....blissfully ignorant about anything HP related

No didn't really like Colin as a character or they way Josh dealt with him.

Grandhighpoohba · 30/05/2011 21:02

And the three words which begin with dw!

CaveMum · 30/05/2011 21:15

God yes! I'm desperately hoping the "three words that begin with dw" will come up in a quiz!
The main thing I've learned from WW is a slightly better understanding of how the US political system works. I never really got my head round the way in which a presidential candidate was chosen but thanks to WW I'm almost there!

I've learnt how you qualify to be a Daughter of the American Revolution although it's still not quite clear to me why you would want to. (Except perhaps to receive the Francis Scott Key ... key).

handsomeharry · 30/05/2011 21:26

That was such a funny scene when CJ cracked up - and so unlike her!

changeforthebetter · 31/05/2011 08:55

Another thing that tipped me towards thinking Santos does have a love-child was that when his briefcase went missing, Lou asked Josh if there was anything in it and he did that screwed-up-face-in-a-typically-worried-Josh manner, like he knew that there was stuff to worry about. He made a joke about heroin and porn to deflect Lou. Don't forget, Josh had gone through the opposition research with Santos months earlier in New Hampshire.

I am a bit sad, aren't it? Seems I am in good company here though Wink

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 31/05/2011 09:03

I can't remember who Lou is.

tribpot · 31/05/2011 09:41

She's the communications director played by Janeane Garofalo in Series 7. Short, brunette, direct of style. Here she is. Not given enough cracking lines in my view.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 31/05/2011 09:48

Oh, rings a vague bell now, thank you.

But to properly refresh my memory I think I may just have to get the box set out again ... Shucks. Smile

tribpot · 31/05/2011 09:58

I think you're right, LadyClarice. Plus you could do a forensic examination of All Matters Pertaining To the Briefcase at the same time Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 31/05/2011 10:00

I do it all for you, guys. Smile

I'm ashamed to say I don't remember The Briefcase Affair either. Blush
I don't really know what I'm doing on a West Wing fan thread ...

tribpot · 31/05/2011 10:07

The Briefcase Affair will be found in episode 14, Two Weeks Out.

NormanTebbit · 31/05/2011 14:13

It's just set up so beautifully

tribpot · 31/05/2011 14:17

"Don't make fun of the big hammer" - LOL

CJ, quite simply, ROCKS.

Fuzzywood · 31/05/2011 20:38

Good one Cavemum CJ does indeed rock!
