A thread for the discussion of West Wing - the best tv show ever made!

If you haven't seen all 7 Seasons be aware that this thread may contain spoilers!

How are all my WingNuts doing? Grin

I was off work all of last week so plowed through Season 3 and am part way through Season 4. Sobbed like a baby (again) when Simon died Sad

plowed ploughed [forehead slap]

Fiderer, I'm being dense/forgetful but who was Ben?

CaveMum · 21/07/2011 18:09

Ben was an old friend of CJ's. Wasnt he a Park Ranger? He spent ages off screen with Carol passing messages that "Ben called."

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/07/2011 11:20

Oh yeah, was he the guy who she met up with when she went back to her home town?

TinyPawz · 23/07/2011 00:29

No that guy was called Marco. He fixes watches. There was a lovely scene with CJ dad & him about "losing time"

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 23/07/2011 11:03

I obviously need to watch it all again (dang Smile); I have no memory of all this!

CaveMum · 23/07/2011 22:46

I watched that episode again lady week. It is beautifully acted and deals with subject of a parent's slow decline so sensitively.

I saw the first four series when they were first shown in the UK, got those on DVD and rewatched but have had the complete box set taunting me on a bookshelf for a while now, meaning to one day watch them through in order. I'm now closer to achieving that goal and am part way through series six for the first time!

The ending to episode 6x02 [Leo's heart attack] was really, really upsetting knowing what would happen just a year later. I don't know how I'm going to cope with his on-screen "departure". But TWW is such a wonderful mix of drama, moments of awesome and hilarity and sadness... the best thing ever to be on TV.

Resurecting this thread...

Firstly to add in another sighting of 'Jim Robinson' - this time playing a Senator in the US version of The Killing - he really does have 'middle-aged US statesman' sewn up in the casting stakes...

Also I've (currently) decided that one of my favourite episodes is 'Election Night' from early in s4 - it's just such a tremendous mix of tension, theatricals (Will summoning the thunderstorm), humour (pranking Josh), Debbie starting to make her mark and the first hints of the MS storyline really kicking in.

TinyPawz · 21/08/2011 13:42

oh more west wing.....you've convinced me to get out the box sets again.....

CaveMum · 21/08/2011 13:47

Glad this thread is still going! We've recently moved house so I've not been able to watch any WW for a while, but I'll be throwing myself back into S5 soon!

I have stumbled across a thing that I feel obliged to share.

It's a puppet version of the Yo Yo Ma/Josh scene, done badly.

Hassled · 30/08/2011 22:24

.
Any Wing nuts around? I want reassurance that letting my DS2 (13) watch 5 episodes of Season 2 in a single day is not bad parenting. It's OK because it's WW, right?

OverthehillsandfarawayNL · 30/08/2011 22:27

I am watching the second part of 20 hours in America. Do you love dry rub?

Hassled · 30/08/2011 22:30

I don't know if I love dry rub, but one of these days I will find out :o. I love that one - that's the "my name is Toby Ziegler and I work for the President" one, yes?

OverthehillsandfarawayNL · 30/08/2011 22:48

Oh yes. And Debbie's second interview for the secretary role.

Fiderer · 31/08/2011 07:29

Hassled - not at all. Funny, clever, educational - what harm? Grin

I was watching the entire box set on a loop for months in bed and dd (who's 9 and since her dad left has taken to sleeping with me) would sometimes raise a sleepy eye and say, "Ooh, CJ, I like her!" "Is this where Bartlet runs again or is it Santos?" Fine role models for a girl I think and balances out some of the rubbish she watches.

Sadly my portable DVD Player died (maybe I WWed it to death) and I've switched to books as an antidote to insomnia. Am getting that pull though and admit to relishing starting again at S1. I'll have to hang the expense and get a new one, won't I?

Brasso4 · 31/08/2011 20:50

Hello all, have only just started watching the West Wing, halfway through S2. LOVE IT! CJ is definitely my favourite character and although I do not think Danny the journalist is remotely attractive, I can't help but wish they would get together.

Have access to all 7 seasons on DVD but DH won't let me watch them for 3 hours every night, so might be a while till we get there!

givemushypeasachance · 31/08/2011 22:58

My friends just watched all seven series for the first time this summer - they properly binged with up to 4 eps a night for weeks on end! I did not protest at being "forced" to join in with some re-watching now and then...

That puppet re-enaction was randomly wonderful!

showmethemummy · 05/09/2011 07:52

nooo! nooo!! why have you stopped talking? this has been such a great alternative to rewatching again (i'm trying to hold off for a few weeksmonths Blush) this time

"jump off a cliff for me"
"mustn't let the urgent crowd out the important"
"you see, a guy fell down a hole..." [snif]

Northernlurkerr · 05/09/2011 07:54

Carrying on with Season 4 just watched the one where Toby discloses Andy is pregnant and you get to see some of the transition - with the nucleur missile under the White House....

CaveMum · 23/10/2011 16:07

Felt like bumping this thread again!

I'm just coming to the end of Season 5, just watching the Gaza episode. Poor Fitz Sad

I've recently got my BFF interested in WW, she's part way through Season 2 and I'm so jealous that she gets to watch them all for the first time!

I watched what is one of my favourite episodes earlier today - The Supremes. Glenn Close is perfect and the writing just, wow!

Any other Wingnuts still lurking out there?

OP posts:
Fiderer · 23/10/2011 19:08

Wingnuts lurk indeed.

"Babies come with hats".

Starting S5 again tonight. Love the Supremes and Glenn Close, especially that Josh got the idea from Donna (her parents' cats) but claimed it came to him in the shower.
