A thread for the discussion of West Wing - the best tv show ever made!

If you haven't seen all 7 Seasons be aware that this thread may contain spoilers!

Alison Janney is 52 this year. The West Wing finished in 2006 so making her 47 but she could conceivably have been playing what 3 to 4 years younger making a baby possible at least. If CJ was 42 in 2006, that would have made her 34 when Bartlett was elected which is just about doable and in line with everybody else.

CaveMum · 19/05/2011 18:53

I think the sex was very well handled overall - some dramas lose the, well drama, with lots of gratuitous sex scenes, whereas WW merely hinted at it and left the viewer to make up their own mind as to what went on.

BlooCow - how can you never have been a huge fan of Donna's? I LOVE Donna - she's such a great character. Clever but not too clever, a bit nervy, a bit insecure, very loyal. I think I'd rather be Donna than CJ. No - that's not true - I'd rather be CJ.

And yes - the whole Leo/Cuba/Kate thing was a bit weird. Never felt right.

Northernlurker · 19/05/2011 18:58

I want to be CJ too.

BananaGio · 19/05/2011 19:00

2 threads hurrah! I am going to have a session tonight when ds is asleep. DP is out and he hasnt got into it particularly (which makes me doubt my choice of man Hmm) so its just me, my sofa and Bartlets White House
I didnt get that impression re Annabeth and Leo either. Did I miss something?

I love Toby (except the beard). It felt like everybody was slowly deserting him towards the end, and he was left clinging onto what was left, starting when Sam left. He's just my dry sarcastic sense of humour.

Which character would I be? Andrea, of course!

BornToFolk · 19/05/2011 19:28

I love West Wing! DP and I are re-watching for about the 3rd or 4th time I think and we're up to season 5 and we're slowing down. Season 5 is not the best, IMHO.
I think Toby's my favourite character- "babies come with hats". sniff.

NormanTebbit · 19/05/2011 19:32

Re: Annabeth/ Leo, there is a scene where she is singing "for once in my life" ( Stevie Wonder, the genius) and CJ says it is because of Leo.

Northern Lurker - she must have been playing a bit younger. Anyway she had a happy ending although I never thought Danny was good enough for her.

NormanTebbit · 19/05/2011 19:35

In fact that Cuba storyline went nowhere. Unlike the Israel/ Palestine story which was tremendous, I think.

I would do Jimmy Smits in a second.

BlooCowWonders · 19/05/2011 19:45

Love it all really :)

Dh and I always have to have the subtitles on. Saves a huge number or 'eh' moments, esp when they do the 'walk with me' thing.

flowery · 19/05/2011 19:56

DH is away tonight. I have a gigantic pile of work to do and a day full of meetings tomorrow.

tribpot · 19/05/2011 20:00

"How can you not love Donna? She's from Wisconsin for cryin' out loud". [NB apart from when she's from Manitoba].

Re: Annabeth/Leo, there's also a moment on the plane between Helen Santos and someone where they're sort of eyebrow-wiggling to indicate there's something going on between them. (Not Helen and the other person, I mean A and L).

I know I seem to have come back to say how shit I thought bits were but Leo's funeral was no proper tribute to either the character or the beloved actor. I'm allowed to say these things because it is, and always will be, my favourite show of all time.

cocoachannel · 19/05/2011 20:26

Very timely thread. I am rewatching during breastfeeds. Today I found myself telling DD who is a mere 11 weeks old how I envyed the fact she had the whole lot to watch for the first time. Totally mad I know...

lauraloo09 · 19/05/2011 20:26

loved the west wing have them all on DVD just finished re-watching them :)

sayanything · 19/05/2011 20:40

Me too me too.

Outstanding idea for a thread. I should have I love Josh Lyman tattooed in my forehead.

Matsikula · 19/05/2011 20:45

oh how I love the West Wing.....

I thought the Leo/ kate secrecy was that they were doing something very much against international law and therefore could not aknowledge it? and I deffo thought that he and his press secretary were in the early stages of a romance at the end of the last series.

My old boss used to repeatedly tell us that her friends all said she was like CJ, though in fact she was a crazy boss from hell, and certainly wouldn't even have known what the Jackal was.

We've only watched the box set once, two years ago. Is now too soon to watch it again? And is that episode with the Biblical name that was their response to 9-11 any good? I am ashamed to say we skipped it.

NormanTebbit · 19/05/2011 21:03

I also thought Toby had a bit of a thing for CJ.

NormanTebbit · 19/05/2011 21:04

I would worship a boss like CJ. They are a rare breed though.

Hassled · 19/05/2011 21:12

Matsikula - 911 episode is definately worth watching. Superbly done.

Matsikula · 19/05/2011 21:16

I will dig it out and watch it then.

Lorelai · 19/05/2011 21:26

I don't think the Annabeth/Leo thing was sexual, just very loving and caring in a platonic, even father/daughter way. Similarly Toby/CJ - they go way back and were good friends long before the show started - care a lot for each other but not sexual.

My favourite relationship is the Bartletts - 'Who's your Commander-in-Chief?'

BananaGio · 19/05/2011 21:28

Just watched Proportional Response

Charlie: I've never felt like this before
Josh: It doesnt go away

Ahhh so true

ShoeJunkie · 19/05/2011 21:31

Love love love WW!

Am re-watching at the mo - on season 6. Leo's just had his heart attack
