A thread for the discussion of West Wing - the best tv show ever made!

If you haven't seen all 7 Seasons be aware that this thread may contain spoilers!

tribpot they do a tribute to Leo/John Spencer earlier in the Seventh Season: Martin Sheen speaks about the episodes being his final pieces of work at the start of one episode. Granted it's not much but they do acknowledge it.

DH is currently in Washington on business. He sent me a photo of him standing outside the White House Envy

oh I want to be in Washington on business! I want to be in a slinky Washington bar eating dessert. Or eating Chinese Food in Leo's office

CaveMum · 19/05/2011 21:53

President "I could jump you right now."
1st Lady "I could kill you right now."
President "My thing's more fun!"

How many of you also liked The Thick of It? I think it is West Wing's evil cynical but equally brilliant twin.

Bumperlicioso · 19/05/2011 22:01

I didn't watch the 9/11 one again after the first time Blush. Found it a bit boring and schmaltzy.

Bumperlicioso · 19/05/2011 22:04

I went to washington a few years ago and was most disappointed that it did not feel West Wing-like, not least because we were only there one day and it was a Sunday!

The White House is smaller than you'd think.

NormanTebbit · 19/05/2011 22:08

I had a crush on MalcolmTucker similar to my current crush on Josh lyman.

"Come the fuck in, or fuck the fuck off."

Bumperlicioso · 19/05/2011 22:19

Another good song 'brothers in arms' when POTUS is coming out of the rain to the press conference and announces he is running.

Has anyone found any good sites with full info about the music in each episode.

OMG I just remembered that while bored one day I came across a load of West Wing fan fic, mostly Josh and Donna stuff. Really awful stuff! Will try and find it and link sometime.

Matsikula · 19/05/2011 22:19

I think Malcolm Tucker probably sits up at night watching his West Wing box set and sobbing to himself.

kaumana · 19/05/2011 22:20

In regards to the news today re Arnold and love child , it brought to mind episode 14 when Santos has to deny supporting an illegitimate chid, stating he is making up for the mistakes for his brother, hmm . Shame they didn't carry the show on.

PS Im not that anal, just when I heard the news I thought that sounds vaguely familiar..

Grandhighpoohba · 19/05/2011 22:31

Love love love the West Wing.

I don't think that Leo was up to anything with Anabeth - she had a crush on him, but he saw her as more of a daughter figure.

CJ and Toby - an unspoken chemistry, never acted on.

I'm a total nerd, but what I want to know when the West Wing story split off from the real history - Nixon is mentioned I think, but not Ford, or Reagan. So who was the last "real" president in the story?

DH wouldn't let me call DS Toby.

Hassled · 19/05/2011 22:31

I wish they'd just do a one-off "where are they now?" episode. It might give me some closure. Then I'd stop watching it incessantly.

I really am a lost, sad, cause, aren't I?

CaveMum · 19/05/2011 22:42

Grandhighpoohba I seem to recall that someone (possibly Josh) refers to someone's tactics as "Bush league", which I took to mean Bush senior. I assume Jed Bartlet is instead of Clinton/Bush jr.

OP posts:
Bumperlicioso · 19/05/2011 22:46

You think you do hassled but it would ruin it really! Either everyone would have a happy ending and it would be cliched and unrealistic, or they don't and you'd be devastated!

Grandhighpoohba · 20/05/2011 06:53

Cavemum, I think Bush league is a much older term, something to do with baseball, not linked to the presidents.

At Lassiter's funeral (a Reagan replacement? He is never mentioned) you have another president played by the bloke from Babe.So the split from reality must be earlier.

Lorelai · 20/05/2011 07:04

Hassled - I see that future scene at the beginning of season 7 (I think that's where it is at least) as the 'where are they now' bit - at least I know 'what happened next', although I would have loved them to carry on and show the Santos White House; I think that could have been really interesting.

bigkidsmademe · 20/05/2011 07:18

This is the best thread ever. Marking my spot! I'm nine episodes in since Monday and today I'm waiting in for an Argos delivery so no doubt another three or four will be watched :)

I'm definitely joining this thread. No one around me shares the WW love. "oh yes, that was good wasn't it" (a la a friend last week) just doesn't cover it off for me.
Love Toby, Josh, Leo and CJ is fab. Really liked the relationship Charlie and the president had. Never liked Sam - I always thought his character was really under-developed. Will is fairly irritating. Did Sam hook up with Mallory in the end? It was one of those relationships I thought was meant to be implied.
The music is wonderful. Except for the theme music which I imagine is meant to be stirring, but I think is overwrought. The music in the season finales were particularly amazing. Love the one with CJ and Simon. So sad.

CaveMum · 20/05/2011 07:49

I take your point Bumper, I just made the assumption based on my limited knowledge of US politics.

I like to think CJ and Danny did have a baby together, that Toby and Andy got back together, Charlie and Zoe got married and so did Josh and Donna. I like my happy endings!

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 20/05/2011 08:14

There is no way Toby and Andie were going to get together again! If she didn't fall for him when v pregnant and he bought a stunning house, she was never going to.
Sam and Mallory definately didn't end up together, He's engaged to a lawyer and she has a bloke who carries Leo's coffin!

bigkidsmademe · 20/05/2011 08:22

The CJ baby bit was odd to me too - I assumed she was 40s in the White house so 50s at the end. I always thought it was adoption.

CaveMum · 20/05/2011 08:22

Oh I agree about Mallory and Sam, but a part of me hopes Andy softened towards Toby [sticks fingers in ears and ignores Northern] Wink

OP posts:
Bumperlicioso · 20/05/2011 08:24

What point cavemum?

Northernlurker · 20/05/2011 08:24

Janel Moloney originally read for CJ - I don't think the character had a definate age.
