Desperate Housewives - What do we think of this series?

I am finding it a bit boring. I still enjoy the characters and their quirks, but not the events itself (the little that's happening). The last episode for example,

  1. Gabby Solis is mean to her child and learns her lesson after one little incident, then she undergoes a personality transplant and celebrates her child's mediocre performance. Reads like a script for a school play.
  2. Renee realises, also in one incident, that motherhood is not for her. Even though she seems like an intelligent woman and it is something she has been thinking of for years.

I don't understand the point of the current Susan storyline either, does she want to leave the show?

What do others think? I need to find a new favourite show.

I think the fact I had forgotten it was back on until I read your post is pretty telling...

smartyparts · 17/05/2011 18:02

The scenes between Mike & Susan having their anniversary picnic were so bad that I nearly switched off! I think even they were embarrassed to be acting in them!

Normally i like DH, but this series seems a little past its best..

Shaxx · 17/05/2011 19:46

I agree that its got a bit boring. The characters are still great and there's still some good comical value in it (not including that rubbish picnic) but it has definitely gone downhill.

Jbck · 17/05/2011 20:39

This week's was probably best so far this series but they could have signposted Beth's demise & it'd not have been any more obvious.

mynameis · 17/05/2011 20:46

Arrghh spoilers!!! Haven't seen this weeks yet!
I still enjoy the series particularly the Scavos just feel it's lost a bit of the connection between the 'housewives' they all seem to have self contained stories this series.

Brianstorm · 18/05/2011 10:34

I came on to see if anyone had seen Desperate Housewives - and realised I'm a wee bit ahead, as watching on RTE. Season finale is next week, and although I see what you're saying about where the storylines are going, the Scavo storyline has really hit a note with me. None of you will know what I'm talking about though!! Somebody please keep up with the series so that they can come back and talk to me about what they think!

Chynah · 18/05/2011 11:09

I hadn't realised it was back on until I accdentally discovered it at about Ep 7. Was a bit late to start then so think I'll catch up with this series later n.

compo · 18/05/2011 11:10

What's RTE?

Brianstorm · 18/05/2011 11:36

It's the Eire equivalent of say ITV - we get it through Sky, in Northern Ireland - channel 161 and 162. They generally get a lot of the American series earlier - maybe 2/3/4 weeks than Channel 4, etc do. So they get Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, and some others (that I can't remember off the top of my head). It's worth checking out from time to time, if you can get it.

Lovedmyheyday · 18/05/2011 17:37

Hi Brianstorm. I've just watched the finale, and it's worth it. A double episode.
I'm too impatient to wait,so watch online,on blinkx, same as most US shows.

Dontbugmemalone · 18/05/2011 21:37

Yes, agree with Lovedmyheyday. I've also watched the finale, keep watching, it gets much better. Try sidereel.com.

mosschops30 · 19/05/2011 13:57

Can i have a quick run down of last nights episode. My sky+ failed and 4OD uses flash player so i cant watch it again

mejon · 19/05/2011 14:05

I think it is repeated on E4 on Sunday night mosschops - 9pm I think before they show next week's Ch4 ep.

turnitup · 19/05/2011 17:15

Im finding it boring too, really miss Edie and I cant stand that new Renee character!!

hocuspontas · 19/05/2011 17:20

I don't like Renee and I think Beth could have had a longer run. Bree is completely boring at the moment. None of the storylines seem to be leading to anything exciting. And Gaby and the school concert thing was ridiculous.

Brianstorm · 20/05/2011 10:38

Hocuspontas, I agree about the storylines at the moment, but I still do like the humour - even if the drama is lacking. But do keep watching - if even just so we can talk about how it all ends!

Loved and DontBugMe - I'm going to wait anyway - have lots downloaded which haven't got round to watching yet, so going to stick to the TV timetable for the minute as it's only 1 week. Must remember that link though for other shows Grin

mosschops30 · 20/05/2011 11:27

Thanks mejon have just put it on the planner

LaurieFairyCake · 20/05/2011 11:29

I too have watched the finale - it's good and I have generally enjoyed this series.

There's a lot of tough relationship stuff going on this season.

compo · 20/05/2011 13:05

I thought this was the last ever season

darleneoconnor · 20/05/2011 23:51

It's the only thing i still watch week to week rather than on box set.

i think that's it's been variable all along.

having brian austin green on it is too weird, i keep thinking of geeky david, he is NO jessie metcalfe (whatever happened to him?) and him and bree JUst dont go

where has gabby's other child gone?

and mike is awol most of the time

those scavo sons need a good kicking up the backside, grrr

and the timeline just dont add up, lynette was supposed to be 35+ when she had the twins but then 18 ish yra later she has another child naturally? now that's just silly, and coming from this show that's saying something...

Cutelittlecatlover · 23/05/2011 10:24

I was thinking the exact same thing darleneconnor. Also something else ridiculous struck me last night - Susan had every medical test going a few series back when she kept inventing symptoms so that she could go to see Dr Ron. Wouldn't they have found out then that her kidneys weren't working properly?

Yes I know its not real Grin

darleneoconnor · 23/05/2011 10:45

yeah, shes had loads of medical storylines over the years, it would also probably have come up when she had MJ

ZZMum · 23/05/2011 10:54

I think the kidney thing was as a result of her getting caught up in a riot and stamped on? Not sure but think I remember that ... I thought Lynette was a lot younger than that when she had her first set of twins as she was setting out in her career etc and then took time out to be a mum and had 4 kids in 5 years? I thought then the last pregnancy which was when the twins were mid teens? who knows - they lost touch with reality a long time ago!

LifeOfKate · 23/05/2011 11:42

Ah, see, I cried in the Gabby/talent show scene Blush

darleneoconnor · 23/05/2011 16:54

I have recently rewatched 'American Beauty' and it def felt like it was a precursor to DH. The Annette Benning character is soo like Bree. Even the set looks earily similar.
