Remind me never to visit Grassington. Stupid programme, whoever wins will never be properly accepted and don't tell me that none of those racists are seething over someone just being handed a £300k cottage for free.

Those were a bunch of ignorant, insular, inbred racists.

FFS.

That couple last night didn't stand a chance.

I hope they found a decent place to live because they're too good for that pack of bigoted morons.

Disgusting.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 01/04/2011 14:14

Some of the people of Grassington are racist, same as some people in London, Birmingham or Plockton. A black couple won in an earlier episode.

mollymole · 01/04/2011 14:14

i think they are looking for 'a family' they can look down on and patronise -

I think there has been clever editing with this TV programme.

I used to live very nearby. Yes it is a conservative area. Yes there are crazed power struggles on who is on what committee. Yes there are utterly bonkers people.

But this programme slants the residents to being 'ist' or 'phobic' and thick about everything. As with anywhere there will be a minority who are 'ist' and 'phobic', chuck in abit of outspoken rude Yorkshireness and TV researchers selecting people to 'provoke' and editing days of filming into less than 1 hr. Well - it's doing what the TV people wanted.

But it is very few people who are narrow minded. Most just get on with life.

And apparently according to family still living nearby - tourism is doing very well

eumaeus · 02/04/2011 16:35

what a load of rubbish i'm reading here.

1)its a tv show not documentary
i)check out who made the production for channel4 (google what other 'enlightened shows have come from this stable'!
ii)now look at the title, remind you of a tv show from the 70's?

now, think about what channel4 and the production company are trying to do here.

2)this is a TOWN not a villiage. with over 1450 people in the town (i was born in grassington), but less than 70 voting, do you think that's a fair representation of the people of grassington?

3)re the voting. did you know the production company gave a £350 raffle prize to all those who voted. do you think they voted for the right people or the money? did you know that the vote was open to people outside the village?

4)did you know that the cottage is not a life long prize? the 'winner' gets the cottage on a lease with the equity being released back to channel for at a rate of 5% per annum.

Now, if you want to make informed comments, please feel free to.

Mary A

well to be perfectly honest expatin, i believe you have misunderstood the meaning of the term bigot (which you posted previously).

'They seem like a fat lot of sorry losers'....is by definition bigoted!

they 'come across'...this way because of editing. if you are unfamiliar with how a tv programme is produced, may i suggest you look into this, than sitting on your ass all day making ill-informed judgements of others.

finally, i do i care in what you think? personally, no. i would get a better conversation from my cat!

usualsuspect · 02/04/2011 16:52

seems like an awful place to live

I have had to stop watching it ,it annoyed me so much

talkingnonsense · 02/04/2011 16:53

I didn't see the programme but when I visited grassington it was beautiful and lovely so I hope it was just biased/ bad editing.

usualsuspect · 02/04/2011 16:54

I think you have annoyed her expat Grin

are you one of the old lady spinners eumaeus?

eumaeus · 02/04/2011 16:55

talkingnonsense, you are indeed talking sense. you didn't see the programme, but have visited grassington. it was indeed edited in keeping with channel4's directive (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_4)

thank you for taking the time to post :)

expatinscotland · 02/04/2011 16:56

'I think you have annoyed her expat '

:o, theusual. Oh, yes, as you know, I'm Webster's definition of bigoted and sit on my arse watching telly all day.

If you get better conversation out of your cat, on you go then! Don't let the door hit you!

eumaeus · 02/04/2011 16:56

@usualsuspect, no im not that old (well at least i dont think so!) :)

just a somewhat annoyed at ignorant and ill-informed postings hun

usualsuspect · 02/04/2011 16:59

Please don't hun me eumaeus

you can hun expat if you like Grin

eumaeus · 02/04/2011 16:59

@expatinscotland (seems that england is better off!)...

'yes, as you know, I'm Webster's definition of bigoted and sit on my arse watching telly all day'....your words not mine. i simply said 'this way because of editing. if you are unfamiliar with how a tv programme is produced, may i suggest you look into this, than sitting on your ass all day making ill-informed judgements of others.'

enjoy your tv and biscuits

expatinscotland · 02/04/2011 17:00

Well, theusual, we must have to go and visit the hole that Grassington seems in order to have an opinion that's not arrogant, ill-informed, bigoted and or valid in any way as it's contrary to MaryA's opinion.

Shall we?

Let's not and say we did!

expatinscotland · 02/04/2011 17:01

Enjoy being surrounded by close-minded, bigoted, thick losers!

usualsuspect · 02/04/2011 17:01

Do they allow council house tenants to visit Grassington?

eumaeus · 02/04/2011 17:02

are you really that backward expatin? are you not able to understand a painting without touching it? understand the technicalities of a meal without eating it (ahem!).... i inferred a little research on your part not moving into a council house there

expatinscotland · 02/04/2011 17:02

theusual's a rabid Tory whose very blood runs blue :o. I'm surprised she didn't try out for the cottage.

expatinscotland · 02/04/2011 17:03

'Do they allow council house tenants to visit Grassington?'

I saw some houses on the last episode, theusual, that looks suspiciously like council ones. Hmm

eumaeus · 02/04/2011 17:04

yes grassington is a town, it has many council properties. even a curry house in the centre, near the pub but never shown, i wonder why

expatinscotland · 02/04/2011 17:04

Why waste time researching a place that appears a shite place to live and cut into my telly time?
