When this comes around to UK tv... if you are thinking of watching it, I just want to say...

DON'T

anon, I was thinking about the Avery/Yang thing the other day - they did totally drop that story, I assume once they decided to get Hunt in.

I don't like dropped story lines. It's sloppy.

I know! They had the kiss, then he obviously had a thing for her throughout the season.
Then in the last episode they had a dramatic moment and then bam they went from that to totally ignoring each other.
You'd think the natural progression would have been for them to relive their trauma together and get closer.

It is sloppy writing. And really insulting to the viewers.

Anyway spoilerish slightly but what was the reason for the singing episode? The creator claimed it was justified but my sister told me what happened and I didn't really see the point- sounded like a Glee moment that according to her totally distracted from a really sad storyline.
The Buffy epi justified the singing really well, but what was the reasoning here?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 07/04/2011 12:45

it wasn't justified. I think they did it because Sara Ramirez is a great singer, and the episode was all about her, so they rammed all this singing in. She was the only one that could carry the singing.

Oh good grief... I'm halfway through this ep and have no idea what the point of it all is...

It's like a too-long music video... Or a Glee-crossover. Except only about 4 people are singing, not the entire lot of them.

There's just no need!

On the plus side, I do like the songs they're using, especially as they're the big songs from earlier in the show's history, and that Addison's temporarily back, kicking ass and I'm looking forward to the dancing demons(!) (loooooved the Buffy musical ep!)

Bored of the blonde OBGYN already, btw... and am desperate for Lexie and Mark to get back together. Avery freaks me out a bit.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 07/04/2011 20:32

The blonde OBGYN is AWFUL, isn't she. Just another in a long, long line.

I didn't mind the musical episode too much, I would have cried like a bloody baby if it hadn't been distracting me!

AprilRose · 07/04/2011 20:48

(was a bit wrong about there being only 4 people singing - that'll teach me to post before finishing the episode!)

Undoubtedly Sara's one heck of an awesome singer, as are a lot of the other cast members, but that's so far beyond the point; this isn't a music show, it's a hospital drama! IMO they use too many gimmicks when they need to spice things up a bit; the documentary episode, the real-time let's do it all in an hour like we're 24 episode and this, and that's just this season. I like the show, really I do. But I don't want to watch it keep trying to be like other shows!!!

Also - McDreamy didn't sing; does that make him Willow if we were to do a direct Buffy contrast?

I used to cry every episode, not so much anymore; am beginning to think that I go in expecting such terrible tragedies that when it's just another diabetes/alzheimers case I get a little disappointed. Heartless much?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 07/04/2011 21:50

McDreamy refused to sing as he said it was an atrocious idea in an interview. Clearly he has a brain.

it's totally bizarre, what a wierd thing for them to do, they must have felt like wassocks doing it........so wrong, GA has been on a severe downward slope since the buxom blonde one Catherine left.

MrsDrOwenHunt · 04/05/2011 23:22

they dud great.loved it

AliciaFlorrick · 05/05/2011 09:08

I thought it was awful, it could have been such a great high drama episode yet I spent most of my time with my finger on fast forward.

Music has always been a big part of GA but it sits well in the background not blasting out all over us.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 05/05/2011 09:30

It was ok. Glad they used known songs as opposed to originals.
DH pissed himself laughing every time Kevin McKidd started to sing. I looked at him with this Hmm face and and he just spluttered "I don't know why, I don't know why!"

Callie has a fab voice though.

smokinaces · 05/05/2011 20:51

I really enjoyed it.

and was it just me or were nearly all the songs they sung MAJOR songs in previous episodes (they all reminded me of previous characters dying or in serious problems etc)

TheOriginalNutcracker · 05/05/2011 20:53

I had been dreading it, but thought it was amazing and done really well. Didn't like it when Owen or Meredith sung though, just seemed odd.

FourFingeredKitkat · 05/05/2011 20:53

Grey's meets Glee, a bit car crash I'm afraid Sad

McDreamy · 05/05/2011 20:58

Very HSM Hmm

MadameCastafiore · 05/05/2011 20:58

ch131 has the next episode on it at the moent I think.

I love Patrick Dempsey and Sloane - would like them to be the bread with me as the filling in a very rude sandwich.

timetomoveon · 07/05/2011 19:56

oh god, me too MadameCastafiore, with a little bit of Owen Hunt as the mayonnaise Grin

vjg13 · 07/05/2011 21:09

How many episodes are left in this series please anyone?

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2011 00:39

Only just watched this as had sky+d it.

Yes Sara Rodriguez has an amazing voice and I thought Little Grey sang beautifully too but still didn't sit right with me. I like quirky and random but it felt like they had shoehorned all these songs in to showcase SR's voice to make a point of 'breaking the rules'.

More importantly, is it just me or is Avery an absolute double (albeit a mixed race version) of Jude Law?

bluesatinsash · 11/05/2011 16:03

Watched and loved GA since episode 1 but cringed and could barely watch this episode. Contrived, clunky and just hard to watch. Really spoiled my normal Friday night = wine + + chocolate + Grey's Grin

When I compare it to the series 2 finale with Izzy and Danny and the ball gown and 'Chasing Cars'and Alex sweeping her up.

McDreamy still cuts it for me though and have a new respect fo Meredith after being mildly annoyed by her in previous series..

raindroprhyme · 12/05/2011 22:08

i loved it and cried through the whole thing which i managed not to do for all of this series. but have sobbed my way through every episode up until this series.
