Apologies for any offence caused, Darlene - obv I had no idea you were referring to your own previous birth experiences rather than just commenting generally on the show. I only meant to put my own experience forward to reassure anyone worried about future births.

EmmaBemma · 14/03/2011 22:44

"Tiffany Hmm"

oh, so bloody what. Right bunch of charmers in here tonight, aren't you.

PussinJimmyChoos · 14/03/2011 22:57

Tiffany is a chav name though.... Grin

JarethTheGoblinKing · 15/03/2011 00:49

This thread is revolting. Some people are lovely, but the majority of you lot are judgemental gits. Get over yourselves..

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 15/03/2011 02:53

Definitely not MNs finest hour!
The whole thread is full of vile judgement, the abuse of the youngster and her methadone taking BF makes me absolutely sick.
However, Emiwo's 'food abuser' comment leaves me livid.
It's ten to three in the morning, and I'm still wound up by this thread.

QuickLookBusy · 15/03/2011 08:02

I agree saggy. Not nice at all. Maybe next week we could start a "watching to enjoy rather than passing judgmental coments" thread.

Northernlurker · 15/03/2011 08:05

I agree - this thread is nasty reading.
Last night's programme showed two beautiful much wanted and loved babies coming in to the world. It showed two brave and magnficent mothers and two fathers who like nearly all the fathers featured are probably better for knowing Grin Maybe we can leave it at that next week.

EmmaBemma · 15/03/2011 08:09

"Tiffany is a chav name though.... grin"

and?

Look at it this way: if there weren't people giving their children "chav" names and dressing them in "chav" clothes, there'd be no-one around for you to feel superior to.

RoundOrangeHead · 15/03/2011 08:15

I really liked Dave & Oakley from the start

hope they're all getting on ok

LittleDonkin · 15/03/2011 08:23

I liked Dave and Oakley from the start too!!!
I took him as a cheeky chappie!!!

MilkNoSugarPlease · 15/03/2011 08:44

Good god this thread is awful !

Judgmental much?

MackerelOfFact · 15/03/2011 10:22

I liked Dave and Oakley, certainly much more than the other couple. The older couple had only been together a year or so too, hadn't they?

Tiffany is a perfectly nice name too. Better than Oakley FFS.

pooka · 15/03/2011 12:03

The One born threads aren't usually quite this horrible, are they?

Cannot believe the vitriol.

And leave the woman from next week alone re: her teeth FFS.

sheeplikessleep · 15/03/2011 12:16

they're not pooka

cheekymonk · 15/03/2011 12:16

I've noticed how the 'food abuser' is almost ignored here too apart from insults and one compliment about her nice face.
I was really pleased to see, as a fellow food abuser Hmm that she had a natural birth and uneventful pregnancy. There are more risks and it can/does blight the wonder and magic that pregnancy/birth can bring. So congratulations Carole!!
The comment about her legs being too heavy upset me. As a fat person you feel like you have to apologise for your size constantly.
I liked Dave too. He clearly loved Oakley and I just hope things work out for them.

eastegg · 15/03/2011 12:16

Poor Oakley having to go through days on end of induction followed by an EMCS. I know natural's better than CS and it's best to give it a go blah blah blah but does anyone else think sometimes they take it a bit too far? They knew that baby was pretty big and at one point didn't even bother finding out what position it was in. Now the poor girl has to recover from a CS and all those hours/days of labour. Shabby, I think.

cheekymonk · 15/03/2011 12:23

Yes I thought that too, eastegg. She did suffer unnecessarily imho

TwoIfBySea · 15/03/2011 12:45

eastegg it did seem as though they weren't putting too much effort in to Oakley's experience.

Having read the entire thread I have to say people are entitled to their opinions.

As someone who is fat, although nowhere near as fat as that woman, I have to say it was selfish of her to put herself and her baby in such danger. I had pre-eclampsia and it was no laughing matter and I'm only a size 18, I felt ashamed for having caused so much fuss and nearly killing my dts.

She is morbidly obese and should be receiving help for that rather than thinking of children.

ZeroMinusZero · 15/03/2011 14:23

Eastegg, I agree 100% - I definitely could have been sectioned earlier than I was. But if I had, I'd probably be on this thread saying "I can't believe how early they sectioned me, the bastards"

BalloonSlayer · 15/03/2011 14:59

I said last night to DH that if the midwives were certain she was going to need a section why didn't they just recommend one?

When I had my DS1 I was convinced that I wouldn't be able to have him naturally - he was big with a big head and he hadn't engaged. Every time I raised my fear it was brushed aside.

After 24 hours labour, 12 of which on an induction drip his heartbeat started to change and when they tried to take some blood from his scalp to test the oxygen levels they couldn't reach it, his head was still so high. So finally I got the section I needed, I was knackered from lack of sleep etc. I wonder now if they were saying in the staffroom "Oh she'll be a section."

But I know people who have had bigger babies than DS1 naturally so I guess the answer is they have to let us try.

Northernlurker · 15/03/2011 15:57

Twoif - what danger? The lady concerned had no complications of pregnancy. Pre-eclampsia can happen to you whatever your weight. As can gestational diabetes. Advanced maternal age also raises the chance of both of those complications - would you label all older mums selfish too?

fizzyliftinggas · 15/03/2011 16:09

I must admit, after watching last night, my initial judgment of Dave was that he was annoying and that her parents must be so proud Hmm
As it went on I thought they were a sweet couple, very supportive and he obviously is taking steps to right his previous wrongs (quite openly) He would annoy me in RL, but I suspect a lot of people would!
The larger lady (whos name I can't remember) I thought, wow she is a big lady... but not in a judgmental way, they were a very lovely couple, she had none of the complications associated with being older/larger/more purple Grin the birth looked brutal but no section.
I bet her DP was gutted he didn't go into theatre, I judged him for that tbh!

One thing that struck me which I mentioned to DH was how many of the couple on OBEM have not been together longer than a couple of months before getting pregnant, not being judgey on this, just surprised, I can only remember a few who were long term partners (the annoying opera singing woman for one) on their third DC I think.

Just saying!

noeyedear · 15/03/2011 17:06

I watched the rest of this on Catch up, and was impressed by how Dave stepped up to the mark. I hope Oakley does manage to get a career behind her and go to Uni like she wants. I was a bit confused by Caroles birth. Did she go into theatre for a section and then wanted to push, or do they put you in theatre for a forceps delivery too? And why didn't the dad want to go in/ Was he just squeamish or did he think the sister would be better? I thought their baby's name was worse than Tiffany. It's not 1975!

Northernlurker · 15/03/2011 17:08

They took her to theatre because if forceps didn't work they were going to want the baby out asap in which case they would do a c-section. Dad didn't want to see what he helpfully termed her being 'sliced and diced' Hmm Sister was a good birth partner I thought. Very calm and focused. Unlike Dad who was totally wet. Loving but wet

ShowyTech · 15/03/2011 17:11

They probably took her into theatre for a trial with forceps, knowing that if it didn't work then they'd proceed straight to section. Easier to be in the theatre from the start of intervention. I was taken to theatre for a trial of ventouse. It failed and left dd stressed but because we were already there, they started the section immediately.
