the way she patronised poor pink mum, she is obviously sh*t scared and its not going ot help anyone her looking at her with a shocked face "you want an epidural!!", give her what she wants fgs.

KangarooCaught · 07/02/2011 21:27

If it's her third and knows what's coming do they not think she might know her body and actually WANT an epidural?

AnathemaDevice · 07/02/2011 21:27

Oldme- I just ignore him, he'll shut up eventually. Just as long as he doesn't say it when I'm actually in labour...

Mind you, DS's birth was quite easy (only 6 1/2 hours from first contraction to him arriving), so I think he's got a bit of a distorted view of how hard it can be.

Alambil · 07/02/2011 21:28

LOL @ Norman the Nozzle (am on time delay - she's just ran back to the room from the "little wander")

oldme · 07/02/2011 21:28

lol minge!

noeyedear · 07/02/2011 21:28

Why does Swindon man keep calling her mum 'Mum"? Especially as they've ony known each other 10 months!

ng, AFAIK, they don't want the epidural to wear off before the actual birth bit. I don't know- last time, I turned up and asked for an epidural and they went 'of course!" knowing it was far too late for one!

Dunoon · 07/02/2011 21:29

Pink T woman's husband isn't very assertive is he. He could be so much more reassuring for her and get the midwife off her bum a bit.

expatinscotland · 07/02/2011 21:30

'ng, AFAIK, they don't want the epidural to wear off before the actual birth bit.'

Bullshit, they can top it up fairly easily. Any anaesthetists will tell you that.

sheeplikessleep · 07/02/2011 21:30

don't quite like these formula ads always on. why ban advertising formula for stage 1 milk, but then have generic brand advert on a programme all about newborns?

BellaMagnificat · 07/02/2011 21:30

Swindon man is a pain in the minge.

MoonUnitAlpha · 07/02/2011 21:31

I feel quite lucky I got an epidural within about 20 minutes of arriving at hospital for one then! They even got an anaesthetist over from another hospital to do it. I was about 8cm by that point though, so maybe that made the difference.

darleneconnor · 07/02/2011 21:31

I wonder what the pink t-shirt Mum's other births were like. If the mw knew more of her history they might be having a more understanding discussion of epidural.

isthismadness · 07/02/2011 21:31

What an awful midwife. He thinks she is being really caring and reassuring all that "hmmm" and nodding but ACTUALLY she is patronising and not engaging at all with the mum.

Do you think midwives forget how bloody painful labour is?

pigleychez · 07/02/2011 21:31

My epidural was topped up 4 times with DD1. Her labour was 27 hours and a killer

FriggFRIGG · 07/02/2011 21:31

WHY is that woman NOT having a c section?!Shock

AnathemaDevice · 07/02/2011 21:32

Is being induced really that much more painful? I'm being threatened with it this time, and I really want to avoid it.

NancyDrewHasaClue · 07/02/2011 21:32

With my first I was induced as an emergency. I had said G&A only on birth plan and before my contractions had started my MW sat me down, and said "I've read your birth plan but you should know this is really going to hurt, do you want an epidural?"

I had the first contraction, said yes please got the epidural and then there was an almighty row as due to staffing I was the last to be allowed one that day.

The woman next door was apparently very pissed off.

noeyedear · 07/02/2011 21:32

expat I stand corrected- that's what I was told! Was your baby 2.5 lbs??

drivingmisscrazy · 07/02/2011 21:32

is Swindon man drinking beer? DP has just said that I was much better than him (gee, thanks!), despite the fact that I got tea and custard creams and she wasn't allowed Blush

ng1412 · 07/02/2011 21:32

Thanks sheeplikessleep and expatinscotland, that's basically my birth plan, clearly I may have to rethink it depending on my m/w and their attitude to epis!

KangarooCaught · 07/02/2011 21:32

Had my epi topped up at source all the way through, none of that watered down, self-administered stuff for me, so I felt nothing. And the anesthetist was so skillful re dosage, I could walk back after the bath after.

darleneconnor · 07/02/2011 21:33

Yes, if she's had 2 other labours you'd think the dad would have more of a clue.

isthismadness · 07/02/2011 21:33

Who, Dean annoying? I think he's quite sweet, just scared

QuoththeRaven · 07/02/2011 21:33

think its relentless energy drink driving :)

BellaMagnificat · 07/02/2011 21:33

Ahh am liking this older mw -worry about your woman and your baby - phonesa re down the line. Class.
