I fancied that male midwife

Gorgeous eyes

he was very 'hands off' though

that jabbering woman and her disinterested husband made me and H squirm

cybbo · 01/02/2011 08:05

oh just seen ggirl said student delivered

edwardsbella · 01/02/2011 09:26

i thought lucy and james were a lovely couple ,and amelia did so well - oh how i sobbed when she picked him up and kissed him

edwardsbella · 01/02/2011 09:30

james is so much like my friends dh(she is a midwife in traing) - just darker hair - he is camp too ,when i talk to him i always laugh.

picc · 01/02/2011 10:25

i sang along to my ipod at times during my labour.
i was induced and they had to do quite a lot of painful stuff.... it really helped me

can imagine i would have looked a bit like a madwoman if you filmed it, though Blush

surely, it's whatever gets you through? grunt, scream, sing, moo...?

thought both women were amazing. this programme makes me so broody, and DS2 is only 15 weeks old!!!

mummysmadhouse · 01/02/2011 10:33

AWWW this was a fab episode. Amelia did so well and was so sweet when her baby was born.

What an amazing birth to the way you saw his little face Smile

Reminded be of my second labour i had a homebirth but was in a similar position when dd came out her head came out then my contractions stopped for about a minute a she actually started to cry while only her head was out.

Di find the other lady vert irritating thought...maybe it was just her nerve...or just hunger Wink

make me cry every week and also very broody!

mummysmadhouse · 01/02/2011 10:33

Blush at typos..wriggly baby on my knee

SaggyHairyArse · 01/02/2011 10:40

Cybbo

Have you homebirthed? It is very much like that. The midwives are much more hands off and tend to read you for signs (transition/pushing urges etc) rather than examining you all the time. That said the student did deliver and assisted with the manual part of delivery while the male midwife observed and provided more support.

LDNmummy · 01/02/2011 15:11

Finally watched it while home with morning sickness this afternoon. Now I see what everyone meant by the annoying couple. I think it was for show as even the ladies husband looked baffled by his wifes behaviour. Each to thier own though, could have just been her way of coping with it all.

Amelia and her mother were lovely, I thought her midwife was HOTTTTT! I guess something about a guy like that is always appealing in his ability to be sensitive.

cybbo · 01/02/2011 16:04

Saggy, no, no home birth here , but come to think of it my last 2 births were very much 'let her get on with it' as they were quick

NorbertDentressangle · 01/02/2011 16:08

I thought it was very telling that Amelia's interview bits were on her own, whereas most of them are interviewed as couples Sad.

She was lovely and I'm sure she'll do well even if(especially if??) the Dad isn't on the scene.

The other woman? Well, what can I say....other than did she pause for breath at any point?

midhusband · 01/02/2011 18:34

Hi every one. I have just spoken to the one born every minute team and they directed me to this sight. I have just been reading some of the chat after the series on last night. I'm really touched that there was so much support for male midwives and of course some of the lovely comments about me. I had so much fun looking after Amelia and i hope it puts us boys a little higher in regard in the midwife world.
Thank you.

Yep. My name is Chris but you may know that now.

Lancelottie · 01/02/2011 18:42

Chris, do NOT read this thread. It will give you a severely inflated ego.

Panzee · 01/02/2011 18:42

Oooh thanks for coming on! You were great with Amelia. :)

QOD · 01/02/2011 18:42

Well hello flutter flutter

LOL Wink

midhusband · 01/02/2011 18:44

Too late! I'm struggling to get through doors right now! On a serious note im just really pleased that i can help raise the profile of male midwives.

midhusband · 01/02/2011 18:45

I would like to give some credit to the student i was mentoring. She did a great job and hopefulyy it might be inspiring for her to see some nice normal births.

GColdtimer · 01/02/2011 18:51

Thanks for coming on chris, I loved last night's episode. I thought it was great to see a woman delivering in the position Amelia did. If you read back through some of these threads you will see loads of us shouting " why is she flat on her back"!

midhusband · 01/02/2011 18:59

I don't usually do the bed thing and try to get it out the room if i can. Most of the ladies i care for think its strange to give birth not laying down, but slowly i am convincing them otherwise. All fours, standing or swinging from the light all work for me as long as i can catch the baby!

CaveMum · 01/02/2011 19:05

Ooo Chris [smooths hair and applies lippy], if it is ok with your employers, and the One Born Every Minute team, you should chat to Mumsnet HQ about doing a web chat. I'm sure plenty of ladies would appreciate the opportunity to flirt chat things through and ask questions to a male midwife.

Dumbledoresgirl · 01/02/2011 19:07

That may well be true, but it would be nice for you to acknowledge that sometimes - I only say sometimes - the lying on the back position works.

When I had my fourth (and I knew he would be my last) baby, I was determined to do everything "right", having had 3 babies in what my HV described as the "stranded turtle" position Smile. So I laboured throughout in the bath (couldn't quite bring myself to ask for the birthing pool, but would advise it for anyone else as hot water definitely works as a pain relief) and then when I got to the pushing stage, I tried every single one of the positions that are supposedly better: standing, crouching, kneeling over back of bed, etc. In the end, the MW suggested "stranded turtle" position (though she didn't call it that!) and guess what? ds3 was born in next contraction. As the MW said afterwards; "sometimes that position is the one needed".

That said, I loved seeing Amelia's birth last night. There was something deeply primeval about her groans and the position she was in.

midhusband · 01/02/2011 19:14

I would have to agree, some positions work for some and not for other. I try to let the mum dictate the position, afterall they will nearly always find some thing that works for them. I love pool births but they are still not as popular as births on land.

midhusband · 01/02/2011 19:19

I would really like to do a web chat, first i need to grab some dinner as lunch got missed today! Far too many appointments with lots of chatting about last night.
