My new favourite programme? Anyone else into it?

OP posts:
OnlyMeUK · 26/01/2011 20:32

Nearly didn't bother after watching the first two episodes, thinking Meh! But I think episode 3 has really hit the mark and was laugh outloud funny!

CubaCat · 26/01/2011 20:34

It's really growing on me. I loved the cock bit in this week's episode, almost wet myself! Really liking it.

SpeedyGonzalez · 26/01/2011 23:33

The blind wife was also that eevil woman in Spooks, wasn't she? The one who threw her Dick-VanDyke lookylikey boss off a tall building.

Not seen ep 3 yet, but this might be make-or-break time for Episodes.

Pennies · 27/01/2011 15:38

I'm enjoying it but agree that is does seem to be missing something...

streptococcus · 27/01/2011 19:47

didnt much like the first one.you must watch episode 3 on the iplayer!!.... the cock bit was HILARIOUS. " my eyes are up here!"

SpeedyGonzalez · 28/01/2011 19:36

"...I'm not a piece of meat!" I LOVED episode 3!!! Grin.

nymphadora · 28/01/2011 19:47

Not convinced. Interested enough to keep watching. Love that the head of comedy doesn't get comedy though Grin

OracleInaCoracle · 28/01/2011 22:16

i do like it when actors play pisstakes of themselves, like duncan from blue in plus one!

StickyProblem · 02/02/2011 09:04

This is making me depressed..it's so close to being really, really good...but it's not.

Tamsin Greig's character is like a Bella Emberg stereotype - constantly miserable, bitchy, nothing is ever good enough. I do love Joey MLB though.

Eleison · 02/02/2011 09:11

Interesting that quite a lot of you have the reaction that it is potentially really good but also lacking something. That's what I think too. I wonder if it is because it really does try to straddle the British comedy ear and the US one. It can't really succeed in both can it? I think the writers are American but that there has been a lot of work with the Brit actors to get the right comedy voice, and the result is a little bit nowherey.

I loved the cock bit too. And the sweary outburst at the end of the earlier episode.

whirlygig · 02/02/2011 09:31

Thw writers/directors could have taken a few tips from Larry David. Agree that it's almost there, but has had the impro/spontaneity sucked out of it.

Pennies · 02/02/2011 13:52

Well the vomit on the shoulder had a certain spontaneity I reckon. I nearly died laughing!

StickyProblem · 04/02/2011 13:33

Yes I liked the shoulder vomit! The cock bit went on too long IMO.

Eleison I think you've got it, they've fallen between two stools.

strandednomore · 04/02/2011 14:32

I love this - I think Matt Le Blanc is brilliant. I read somewhere that he is playing a sort of "darker" version of himself and what I really like about it is because you expect him to be funny a la Joey and he isn't always. He often leaves the laughs to others.

I actually think the humour is very subtle rather than necessarily laugh-out-loud funny. I don't think it's meant to be straight comedy, I think there is more to it. It's definitely worth keeping going with this - it gets better every week.

YankNCock · 04/02/2011 14:42

This is being shown on Showtime in the U.S. and I heard a U.S. reviewer say it was 'nothing we haven't seen before'. I found that a bit odd, I wasn't aware of any other shows particularly looking at how the U.S. takes great UK shows and badly remakes them--have I missed something?

Eleison · 07/02/2011 22:44

Did BBC really just broadcast a warning about 'language' for this show because it had the word 'vagina'????

I can't think what other words it might have referred to.

Since when is vagina offensive?

They had an unannounced cunt a couple of weeks ago.Grin

It was good. Painful how Beverley is positioned as 'difficult' and a battleaxe because she is trying to do her job well. It is a v sharp picture of sexism.

YankNCock · 07/02/2011 23:23

Grin at 'unannounced cunt'

SugarSkyHigh · 08/02/2011 14:30

I hated this last night. Tamsin Greig is the most annoying actor I've ever seen anyway, but last night even more annoying. Steven Mangan = painful. They are the most unconvincing couple. And the end bit just seemed sick somehow, really tragic. What is going on with this?

Onetoomanycornettos · 08/02/2011 14:42

Given up with it, just didn't take to it after two episodes. I agree with Sugar, Tamsin and Steven mangan are really unbelieveable as a couple, they just wouldn't choose each other in real life and it shows.

SecondhandRose · 13/02/2011 08:53

Mmm, maybe i am getting old but was shocked at the end of this weeks episode.

CDMforever · 14/02/2011 21:45

I have been sky plussing it and really like it.
Can't wait for tonights er episode to see how Sean's cyber nookie pans out. Poor Tamsin/Beverley.

DesperateHousewife20 · 15/02/2011 20:22

I love this, I havent seen Mon ep yet, going to watch it later tonight.

Felt her pain at catching him having a wank at the end.

Ceic · 15/02/2011 22:29

I've been enjoying this too! I think it's been so well crafted.

This week's episode explains the opening of the first episode. I can't wait for the final episode! Oh the fallout...

vmcd28 · 16/02/2011 10:51

I'm still watching, but struggling with it. I don't think the Greig/Mangan style fits it at all. There are some very clever lines, but their delivery of many of them just doesn't work. I find some of it a bit uncomfortable, I.e. when a joke falls flat, it feels awkward.
PS it was written by american AND British writers, NOT just Americans

lucykate · 16/02/2011 20:57

we're still watching it, quite like it. think matt leblanc is good, and the lady from the network, carol, like her too.
