Cheyenne could easily be a model. Ive witnessed grabbing first hand and its not a pretty sight. With regard to the accents, is that what separates the different kinds of traveller? Im used to the Irish accent due to where I live but, Cheyenne was very London wasnt she? I also would love to know what daddy did to keep her in £300 frocks!! It was very gossip girl!

I cannot imagine why you think the phrase 'no-one is whiter than White' could possibly help convince anyone that your views are not racist, Loveitalia.

Loveitalia · 21/01/2011 08:09

You are off your mind mathanxiety. You can pick out any word you want that you think describes me and what I stand for. You are clearly de-ranged and a bully. It seems a few of you MNers pick out things just to make an issue out of things because you have nothing better to do. I've obviously turned into one of you for a few days by even taking the time to reply to comments. Thank god I won't be visiting again, you have had enough chances to show yourself as a nice person, but are obviously not capable. Very sad! Take a deep look at yourselves. Some of you need to question your mental state. It's ludicrous to think someone can't even try and rectify what they said.
Weird

math get a grip. Only a loon thinks (or wants to make others feel) that that phrase has anything to do with skin colour. White is the colour of purity - virginal and innocent. It harks back to white bedsheets on a virgin's wedding night to show whether or not she bled upon intercourse - proof Hmm of her innocence. And white snow is clean and pure and untouched and goes grey when it becomes soiled. Don't make it about skin colour - that's crass and unnecessary and the sort of political correctness which is damaging and counter-productive.

I know that this 'thread' has taken a more serious turn but can I just say that I loved this programme. Its not an open university programme, its an entertaining view into other people's lifestyles. I am not going to comment on the rights or wrongs of what I saw, only that I loved the OTT element of the dresses, the ones that light up etc!!! Would not have worn some of them myself, but 'go girls' if thats what they want!
In addition can I just say that some years ago I was marginally involved in a serial documentary, and when I saw the final result I just wanted to scream at the telly, the facts were distorted, editing was done to 'glamourize' certain issues etc. As we were told by the bbc at this time, it has to make 'good tv' or no-one will watch it. So BIG PINCH of SALT and enjoy, its not about the great meaning of life, its a tiny tiny window into what for most people is simply a different way of life!! Wink
Although I have a feeling I am about to be shouted at by the 'serious' people.

FellatioNelson · 21/01/2011 11:50

No shouting from me caspered I agree with you. (not that I am ever considered one of the 'serious' people. Grin)

caspered · 21/01/2011 11:59

Glad someone does!! Smile

It's also highly ironic, to say the least, given what she posted earlier and the subject of racism.... The phrase is semantically flexible and has obviously developed a life of its own that is a long way from its alleged origins. It would raise many an eyebrow in many parts of the world where degrees of divergence from 'whiteness' have been used to distinguish people from each other and discriminate.

'I wasn't saying they all sleep around (and if they do that's up to them) but I'm sure some don't stick to the rules.' I don't know what your point here was, whether prurience or an attempt to suggest they bring the 'grabbing' upon themselves.

I agree with 'Go girls' - just wish they had a chance to shine outside of their wedding day.

I'm coming to this thread a little late I know. I never know what to think about this issue. I guess its generalising thats the problem as always? But there are a very, very visible minority that do cause huge problems, and I suppose because they're such a tight-knit community, you're not likely to know a person who is from a traveller/gypsy background, so all you see is the troublemakers if that makes any sense?

I know where I live we've had some issues - for example a well-known boxer from traveller community died a while ago, his funeral was in the nearby city, travellers came from allover to pay respects, but that night they went to a number of pubs in the city, a huge group of men, and trashed them, totally, ran up huge tabs that they refused to pay, no one dared challenge them because they were obviously not going to pay. If that is all people see of these communities, I suppose that's where the bad feeling comes from.

And, I know many a hairdresser who has done the works and not got paid a penny for it. One was even a full wedding a few Saturdays ago, they bride and her party turned round as said they didnt like what had been done and, promptly walked out!! Since then she has had to ask for the payment upfront. Rightly or, wrongly.
