Eastenders Baby Death Storyline

Once again, no one can live happily ever after Sad

Ronnie's baby James, dies and she puts his body in Kat and Alfies son's crib, and steals their baby boy, Tommy.

Why oh why oh why do scriptwriters insist on portraying bereaved parents - mothers especially - as mad and deranged??? Maybe it's because they can't begin to imagine how awful the death of a child is, but really, whilst we are mad with grief, it is our own child that we want back, not someone else's stolen child. When are scriptwriters ever going to understand that?

Still, it'll be a riveting watch, no doubt.

sowhatis · 10/01/2011 19:06

I hope the meeting goes well! I have stopped watching it as it has just gone 'too far' IMHO.

MsKLo · 10/01/2011 19:07

Thanks NMR
Gosh, the fact they spoke to bereaved parents makes it worse as they have shown a total lack of respect with the baby swap

belledechocchipcookie · 10/01/2011 19:08

If my memory serves me correctly, they had a cot death story line in the very early years, Mary and her baby?? There was no baby swap then so why put it in now?

deemented · 10/01/2011 19:27

No, it was the Osmans, IIRC.

OP posts:

Sue and Ali with baby Hassan Smile

belledechocchipcookie · 10/01/2011 19:33

Before the Osmans, something happened to Mary's baby.

belledechocchipcookie · 10/01/2011 19:34

Right at the very beginning. I can remember the first episode, they found an old man dead in his chair.

Mouseface · 10/01/2011 19:34

Do you know belle, that's the question we all want an answer to but IMO - ratings, publicity and shock factor.

Well done BBC Hmm

belledechocchipcookie · 10/01/2011 19:36

I agree with you all. It's bad enough having a death in the story line, there was just no need to go any further. It was unnecessary. I can't imagine the pain that some of you are going through.

'Mary was an incredibly irresponsible mother and almost everyone on the Square had a turn at looking after Annie at one time or another. Most took pity on Mary and were willing to help her out, which she regularly used to her advantage. Mary made an unlikely friendship with local busybody Dot Cotton, who would regularly be put upon to babysit for baby Annie whilst Mary went out to party or earn cash. Although Dot liked to preach to Mary, she was one of the few people that Mary listened to on Albert Square.

Strapped for cash, Mary found it difficult to provide for Annie, so her friend Sheena Menell talked her into becoming a stripper to earn some money, and she regularly danced for married shopkeeper Saeed Jeffery. One night when Mary was out stripping, she left Annie in the care of Sheena. Sheena left Annie alone while she went out with a client. Mary's neighbour, Sue Osman, found Annie before any harm could come to her, but Mary subsequently cut all ties with Sheena.'

For you belle Smile

Mouseface · 10/01/2011 19:43

And here belleMary was later arrested for soliciting, which left her with a huge fine. However, even this didn't stop her prostituting herself. Mary's unsocial hours meant that she was often forced to leave baby Annie alone at night whilst she went out to work the streets. This culminated in Annie nearly dying in a fire one night when she was left alone. Luckily for Mary, she was rescued by Arthur Fowler before she was harmed.

Eventually, Dot could no longer stand the maltreatment of Annie so she contacted Mary's parents, Chris and Edie Smith, who arrived in Walford and demanded to take Annie back with them to Stockport. Mary initially refused, but she eventually realised that her burnt-out flat was no place for a baby, so she begrudgingly allowed Annie to go.'

How is everyone doing today?

Mouseface · 11/01/2011 15:19

Still full of germs.

Avoiding BBC1.

OracleInaCoracle · 11/01/2011 17:30

blimey, been quiet here today. I actually left the house today. and went shopping. it was bliss!

Mouseface · 11/01/2011 18:42

This is bound to be picked up by a troll person in huge disagreement with us, but I actually feel really sad now it's getting nearer to 7.30.

The thought of the funeral plot is so upseting, burying someone else's baby, Ronnie not being able to show her true feelings.........

And yes, thank you dear reader, I know it's not real before I get flamed. Again.

Keep me busy please. Off to cook when DH gets in but I'm a wee bit wobbly again!

How are we all tonight? Smile

lissie - you left the house? Blimey! Well done you! Glad you enjoyed the shops. xx
