The final task happened much more recently. In the meantime I believe they work for SurAlun for a bit.

He always has a final task that isn't a clear win/lose one, so no sales tasks where one person clearly makes more profit. That way he can basically still pick whoever he wants and justify it somehow.

And I also read that the two finalists both work for him for some months, so LS's final pick is really based on this with the task as window dressing.

gatecrashing- on the subject of if the products get made, last year i worked at John Lewis when the series was on- and the day after the task where they had to design an exercise product, got loads of e-mails asking if we were selling it (even though it is obviously a 'fictional' product).

I think they only ask back the ones that they think will genuinely support the candidates. I can imagine Stuart and Laura being arsey and sabotaging it.
