If your 15 year old DD decides she can't imagine being with anyone other than her boyfriend how do you react?I

15 year old DR has decided first and current bf is it. In her opinion it's a lifetime commitment.

Has anyone been in such a circumstance?

I'd say that's pretty normal. About lots of things when you're that age.

She'll feel like that until she doesn't. I wouldn't worry too much.

Editing to say, actually I think my mum was 15 when she started going out with my dad and they're nearly 60years married.

Chucklebunnie · 18/08/2026 18:41

I think it’s a pretty common thought with your first love.
It won’t last! 💔

Helpwithdivorce · 18/08/2026 18:42

Isn’t that every 15 year olds first relationship? Surely you felt the same at that age? She won’t feel the same way when he ditches her

Sparrowsandbudgies · 18/08/2026 18:42

Just nod and smile and say that’s nice. What else can you say? You don’t want to be negative, you’ll just make her feel crap about it and push her away. They’ll most probably split up at some point.

Arcticbattle32 · 18/08/2026 18:43

Very normal. She’s highly unlikely to feel like that forever.

Thisisnotmyid · 18/08/2026 18:43

Of course she can’t she’s 15! let her believe it’s love and allow it to run its course. Don’t destroy it life will do that for you.

Hankunamatata · 18/08/2026 18:43

Smile and nod and make sure solid contraception

This. Bless her, first love and all that. It won’t last!

My first relationship ended when I was 22. We'd been together since 18. I couldn't imagine being with anyone else either because id only been with him.

It's absolutely normal.

Babyboomtastic · 18/08/2026 18:46

It's perfectly normal. If she imagines her future and he's not in it, it would be a pretty rubbish relationship wouldn't it.

The likelihood is they'll split up, but equally it's not inevitable.

Just love and support her.

Actually you made me realise my best friend has been with her husband since he got her pregnant at 15. They’re 71 now, just about to have their 55th wedding anniversary ❤️
Her mum said it wouldn’t last and he ruined her life.

IdaGlossop · 18/08/2026 18:59

Just nod, smile and bide your time.

My DD went off to university with her first boy-friend, a quiet, super polite, high-achieving, teacher's pet. Also tall, slim and good looking. They had lived in one another's pockets for the previous three years and he had been on holiday with us. I wasn't happy they had gone to the same university but said nothing. In their second year, they broke up.

He then slept his way around the city's female undergraduate population, started dating a close friend of hers in another city (to whom he was monstrously unfaithful), chucked food around in restaurants, allowed her to be referred to on social media posts connected to a sport they were both involved with, and generally behaved like a total dickhead.

Typo

My DD is 24 and still with the boy she started going out with at 15.

Sometimes it lasts, sometimes it doesn’t. We all think at 15 that it will last.

CombatBarbie · 18/08/2026 19:00

Been through this twice with eldest, doing it again with youngest...... I feel their heartbreak when it goes tits up but it doesnt half make you feel shit when you cant take away their pain x

Wallywobbles · 18/08/2026 19:01

DD2 is now 20 and still with BF from 15. He’s a nice kid. She’s knocked the edges off nicely. They’ve even brought property together.

Theworldsgonemadagain · 18/08/2026 19:04

Just be happy she's currently happy. The likelihood is it won't last but she doesn't need to know that. Do you remember that loved up feeling it's lovely. I do know three people that have been with thier partner since 15/16 that are together years later.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 18/08/2026 19:05

Of course she does. It may last, or, more likely, it may not. But you dismissing it won’t make a difference either way.

Pinkissmart · 18/08/2026 19:06

I felt that way at 15.

I was wrong and I definitely got over it 😀

Favouritefruits · 18/08/2026 19:06

It’s first love! She’ll never feel this way about anyone ever again, first loves are meant to feel like this, they won’t last forever the tears and the pain after first love is the worst too! Just let them be, enjoying each other.

Arcticbattle32 · 18/08/2026 18:43

This and this again.
has she lost her virginity to him because that’ll be a big part of it as well.
I think most 15 year olds feel that way though, more surprised you think that’s not the norm?

Iloveeverycat · 18/08/2026 19:09

I have been with my DH since 16 we are in our 60s now. It does last sometimes.

mids2019 · 18/08/2026 19:10

Thank you all. Bit of crowd wisdom helps!!

I think a lot of people feel this way whatever their age. It would be a bit odd to be in love with someone and think about being with other people. I met my husband in my 30s and can’t imagine loving someone else as much as I do him.

Megapint · 18/08/2026 19:11

Isn't it normal to feel that way at 15?. Most grow out of it and move on. (I didn't i still feel that way about him 40 yrs later)
