Pretty please save me from monopoly!!

Do you know of any fun family board games we could play and all enjoy? Dd and ds nearly 15 and eldest dd nearly 20.

Nothing that will electrocute me please 😂 - or taste horrible on that note…

Thanks

Not a board game but a great family game to play - you only need a phone. Imposter.

WoahThreeAces · 13/11/2025 20:37

We bought Ransom Notes for our summer holidays and it is brilliant - kids aged 14-20 all loved it.
Also This Is Not a Hat - infuriating but very much enjoyed.
Ravine is a fun cooperative game.
And a silly kids game but we all absolutely LOVE is Rhino Hero 😁

Quirkle or Ingenious

Qwirkle is great!

HenriettaMusgrove · 13/11/2025 21:33

Crack List is excellent fun. More of a card game than a board game

Telestrations

I hate paying board games, but I'll always play this one. I've never not cried with laughter. 😂

Arran2024 · 13/11/2025 21:40

Tension. You are given a category like Disney Princesses and you have to name the 10 answers on the card. Some of the answers are pretty obscure. It is easy, good fun for everyone.

Tomrrowandtomorrowandtommorrow · 13/11/2025 21:41

Qwixx (German dice game)
Settlers (unbeatable)
Art Society (love this so much. Beautiful and gentle and oddly satisfying)
Witches (German trick trading card game)

Runnersandtoms · 13/11/2025 21:44

Our favourites are Articulate (teens versus adults) and Bananagrams. We also like 'sing the next line' and charades cards.

Thank God no one has recommended the mysteriously popular ‘Exploding Kittens’ which is a load of old shite. Our favourite one lately has been Scrawl - basically Chinese whispers meets Pictionary. It’s really fun.

I bought that 3 years ago and it’s still in cellophane…eta kittens

Mumoftwoboysaged4and5 · 13/11/2025 21:50

Viking raiders - fun for all ages and ver quick to learn
another vote for ticket to ride and catan

payday - which is more of a vintage game

OnlyOnAFriday · 13/11/2025 21:54

Wingspan

I can’t pretend I know the rules but it’s a firm favourite with everyone else. I spend the entire time asking Dd what I’m allowed to do/what i should be doing for all my moves.

HelloDarknessmyoldfrenemy · 13/11/2025 21:57

Avalon - social deduction game. Very much like Traitors but better because you are playing it yourselves.

More proper board games:
7 wonders
Wingspan
Tales of Arabian nights
Pandemic

amilliondreamsofsleep · 13/11/2025 21:58

I love Wingspan but if you’re stuck in Monopoly I’d go to Ticket To Ride, Catan or Harmonies first.

CypressGrove · 13/11/2025 22:05

Dungeon mayhem is a great game - it's cards, easy to pick up and relatively short rounds.

whirlyhead · 13/11/2025 20:11

Cards against humanity which is quite filthy, but I’ve played it with 3 generations of family and it was funny - even the 75 year old was in stitches.

there is now a family friendly version for 8 years and above so should be safe.

Came on to say cards against humanity. We have the family friendly version and the whole family were crying with laughter at some of the combinations last year.

Another vote for taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza!

We also like

King domino (up to 4 players) - super quick to play
Colt express - you act out the scenes using a little cardboard train and each have a bandit trying to find the most treasure
Carcassonne - semi collaborative game
Rhino hero super battle (up to 4 players) - build the ultimate house of cards
Articulate - causes lots of laughs
Dixit - mainly because it's beautiful and creative

All really easy to just pick up and play, no overly complicated rules.

Happy shopping!

Etatauri · 13/11/2025 22:14

@LittleTurtles Oo I forgot about telstrations! The after dark version is not for the faint hearted. Don't think I could play it with my mother 🫣

Shmee1988 · 13/11/2025 22:16

Sounds Fishy.... honestly its brilliant. DP and I host alot of board games and 3 of the couples have gone and bought this after playing it with us.

Etatauri · 13/11/2025 22:17

Oo if anyone on this thread likes cards against humanity I recommend Joking Hazard!
