How strict are Amazon with delivering alcohol?

I ordered some beers and spirits on amazon for my sisters birthday party, as I don’t have time to go to a shop. Well I say I did, my husband decided to order it for when we’re planned to be at work and the only person that will be home is my 16 year old son 🙄. My question is how strict are Amazon on delivering alcohol? Do they ask for id or just for a DOB, because obviously if it’s an ID check then my son won’t be able to take them in, but if it’s just a DOB needed then he should be fine because he could just about get away with being 18 and could lie about the DOB. Has anyone got any insight or experience on how strict Amazon are with this and what they ask for? Thanks x

They always check ID

Ilikewinter · 28/08/2025 14:46

They check proper ID, don't think any company would be fooled into only asking for a DOB!

Roomgigi · 28/08/2025 14:46

Yes they always check - our 90 year old grandparent had to provide ID

MrsMitford3 · 28/08/2025 14:46

Very strict.

I have both been asked for an ID and had to produce a drivers licence and to verbally give my name and DOB and I have grown children...

Mrsttcno1 · 28/08/2025 14:47

Very strict, they have to be. They have to ask for ID.

They always check ID

Thought that would be the case, I’ll Just have to cancel or rearrange for when I’ll be in. Thanks

Jeez I knew they’d be strict but asking a 90 year old for id is crazy

This is very strange as I’ve had Amazon leave alcohol on the doorstep for me before.

Thebigonesgetaway · 28/08/2025 15:24

Always very strict with us, and they take it away if no one in, the law is very strict now, so they don’t mess around,

DongDingBell · 28/08/2025 15:28

Left ours on the front t doorstep.
It was a present - we were away for the week.
So, in my experience, absolutely no cares in the world.

Couldthiswork · 28/08/2025 15:31

I had alcohol delivered yesterday and they didn’t ask for ID, they just asked for my year of birth. I’m 49 though so I guess they weren’t overly concerned!

BilbaoBaggage · 28/08/2025 15:37

They have always asked for ID here. I am in my 50s and look like it!

Bluebay · 28/08/2025 15:38

Can't you have it delivered to a convenient pick up point? We do that always now - it's more secure and reliable.

Same. They’ve also asked me ‘are you over 18’ and when I say yes (I’m 30) they just say ok and sign it over.

Yodeldodeldo · 28/08/2025 15:47

Recently stricter, but have handed over parcels to my teens before

MrsMattSantos · 28/08/2025 15:57

I’ve never been asked for ID for any alcohol I’ve bought online.
Amazon usually just ask my year of birth and that’s it

whatisthegoddamnholdup · 28/08/2025 16:29

They always ask for ID.

RedRiverShore5 · 28/08/2025 16:31

I have been asked year of birth but I'm in my late 60s.

mintich · 28/08/2025 16:39

They are supposed to ask for id. The ones who haven't will be signing it themselves to say they have seen, probably because they are in a rush. But they are supposed to check name and year of birth, enter it on their system and they get told if it matches. Hence why they ask 90 Yr olds for id!

user2848502016 · 28/08/2025 17:13

A friend sent me some gin and the delivery driver did refuse to hand it over to my teen, rightly so

HeatherXoXo · 28/08/2025 17:19

They just ask me the year I was born, no date or ID

dogcatkitten · 28/08/2025 17:35

Only ever ask me for date of birth, but I'm obviously not 16.

Bumply · 28/08/2025 17:58

They won’t deliver to under 18 even if there’s no alcohol, as they don’t want the bother of checking if there’s alcohol.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 28/08/2025 18:08

I’ve never been asked for id, just birth year.
