How strict are Amazon with delivering alcohol?

I ordered some beers and spirits on amazon for my sisters birthday party, as I don’t have time to go to a shop. Well I say I did, my husband decided to order it for when we’re planned to be at work and the only person that will be home is my 16 year old son 🙄. My question is how strict are Amazon on delivering alcohol? Do they ask for id or just for a DOB, because obviously if it’s an ID check then my son won’t be able to take them in, but if it’s just a DOB needed then he should be fine because he could just about get away with being 18 and could lie about the DOB. Has anyone got any insight or experience on how strict Amazon are with this and what they ask for? Thanks x

Left ours on the front t doorstep.
It was a present - we were away for the week.
So, in my experience, absolutely no cares in the world.

I’ve also had alcohol left on the step.

Could your neighbours take it in OP, if you’re worried.

Very. I’m nearly 60 and still have to show my ID

Thereshegoesagain · 28/08/2025 19:26

Very.
My DH was sent some love posh wine as a present. The delivery driver asked for ID And DH laughed and said I'm clearly over 18 (it was a 50th birthday present).
The driver insisted, my DH continued with his stubborn 'this is a stupid rule therefore I am ignoring it' stance.
The driver refused to hand it over and drove off with it.
My DH showed his ID without hesitation when a second attempt at delivery was made the next day.

They asked my 65 year old husband for ID so yes strict

Depends entirely on the driver. Some demand ID, in my experience most don't (especially if foreign) & simply settle for date of birth without proof; have had booze left on the doorstep on one occasion 🤷🏾‍♀️

SaltAirAndTheRust · 29/08/2025 18:07

Amazon have only ever asked me for DOB!

PiggingBastardPigs · 29/08/2025 18:11

Some of them can be very strict, one once demanded my Driving Licence for a spade! I thought he was joking at first. If I was considering self-injury I can think of easier weapons….

I had that in lockdown. A driver who had delivered to me on numerous occasions refused to leave me a bottle of Bailey’s because I couldn’t find my passport - I was 55 at the time .

They are thankfully very strict. There's no way they will leave age restricted items with a 16 year old.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 29/08/2025 18:29

Depends on the driver ! Last time, I just pulled my fringe aside & said "see these wrinkles ?" He just handed it over & said "enjoy" !

GiveDogBone · 29/08/2025 18:31

They got done by trading standards once in a mystery shopper exercise, so any driver who gives alcohol without asking for ID will risk getting sacked.

I ordered 100% alcohol free cava and still had to show id. I thought this was a bit odd.

Elzibub · 29/08/2025 18:43

DOB when they drop off vape coils

BoarBrush · 29/08/2025 18:48

I get beer and wine delivered weekly from amazon, never once been asked for id, just year of birth.

Ladygardenerinderby · 29/08/2025 21:36

Never been asked for id only my dob my son whose 24 was only asked for dob but he does look 24 not 17 or 18 doubt they’d risk giving booze to a 16 year old in case you kicked off about it and then driver would get sacked and Amazon could get in huge trouble.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 29/08/2025 21:38

I got banana liqueur delivered last week (dh!) from Amazon. I took the parcel and they only asked for my year of birth.

Piffle11 · 29/08/2025 21:43

I really think it depends on the driver. I’m mid 50s - And believe me, I look it - and have always been asked for my date of birth or even to provide ID.

I presume the driver asking me for my date of birth only was trying to be kind 😄

They don't always ask for ID or dob here. They used to always ask to see ID, then they'd ask for DOB. Now sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. They've left a box with a bottle of gin in behind our bins fairly recently. But I would like to think that they'd definitely ask a teenager for identification

RobinEllacotStrike · 29/08/2025 22:21

I had an alcohol delivery from Amazon today - my first ever.

the box it was packaged in had blue printing, not black. Delivery guy took my dob & name. No id requested but I’m clearly over 25.
