Where do 15/16 year old girls go shopping for clothes?

Want to get a birthday present for a family member I don't know that well. Thought maybe clothes shop voucher, but have no idea where is considered acceptable. My sons (bit younger) like bits from Uniqlo, but don't know much else and generally hate shopping. Any ideas?

You can get a voucher from most supermarkets that is for teenagers boys and one for girls. Got lots different shops on on it.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 21/09/2024 07:37

@purpleme12 the Brandy Melville shop in Covent Garden is equally strange but my DD16 loves it. I just don't get what the kids love about a shop full of clothes that look like old fashioned nightwear.

DD shops mainly in Primark , Zara and Uniqlo. Loves Superdrug for basics or Sephora for a treat,

futureplanner · 21/09/2024 07:38

I'd also say Superdrug if you want high street though Amazon or cash would be preferable.

Singleandproud · 21/09/2024 07:41

DD likes Disturbia and M&S for certain things but she has a very specific 'dark academia' look.

I'd go with Superdrug voucher which she can use for skincare / make-up / toiletries or just lunch if nothing else takes her fancy

Q124 · 21/09/2024 07:52

Definitely not Next or New Look!

I'd suggest H&M, Urban Outfitters, Primark, Zara.

Wigglypasta · 21/09/2024 07:56

Hollister, H&M, Superdrug or Starbucks but cash would be better really.

whiteroseredrose · 21/09/2024 08:06

It's hard because we don't know their style or price point.

DD is now 21 but has bought clothes from Hollister, Urban Outfitters and occasionally Superdry. Now charity shops and Abercrombie are in the mix. Never Primark.

Can you ask them or their parents? Better to get it right than waste the money.

StolenChanel · 21/09/2024 08:08

Primark, Bershka, Zara, PLT, Oh Polly (for “birthday dresses”), Shein, Uniqlo (for jackets/“basics”)

Wigeon · 21/09/2024 08:14

H&M
New Look
Vinted - for Hollister & Urban Outfitters and other random brands

Definitely not Next or M&S. She never finds anything she likes in River Island either. Occasionally Uniqlo.

MingingTiles · 21/09/2024 08:14

Not Next or Lulu Lemon. She’s 16 not 46.

DD likes H&M, Brandy (urgh), Urban Outfitters. But cash is better- so many vouchers go to waste. I know Mastercard does a prepaid gift card if you don’t want to give notes.

StrugglingGrief · 21/09/2024 08:19

depends on her crowd/scene

ours are:

polo Ralph Lauren
lululemon
sweaty betty
new look

notatinydancer · 21/09/2024 08:33

Does she have a shopping centre nearby?
At ours you can get vouchers for the whole centre.

mamajong · 21/09/2024 08:39

It depends on her style, my DD is into sports and the gym so wears gym shark, sweaty Betty and Nike but also shops in New look, river island and h&m - she hates next and m&s stuff but likes primark for basics and pjs. Boots voucher could be welcomed - my dd has expensive hair care and perfume for example

ReggaetonLente · 21/09/2024 08:57

It’s hard and they’re all so different. Also agree with it depending on area - the clothes cool girls wear in Bristol, Brighton and Bromley are all
going to be quite different!

it’s really a shame vinted don’t do vouchers, the teen girls I know get so much off there, and ethically I think it’s great.

Spinet · 21/09/2024 09:03

My DD would prefer a book voucher or cinema voucher to any clothes one (though she would be grateful for either!)

purpleme12 · 21/09/2024 15:35

It's so weird

One size 😕

Ghilliegums · 21/09/2024 15:41

Tbf a lot of the hoodies and jumpers are very oversized.

alwaysonadiet1 · 22/09/2024 09:49

@domesticslattern ah, sorry I didn't realise this.

CooksDryMeasure · 22/09/2024 10:00

It definitely depends on the scene… DD’s biggest purchase lately has been a Beaumont & Bear quarter zip… she does most of her shopping on Vinted.

TheaBrandt · 22/09/2024 19:31

Honestly those flexible vouchers would be welcomed. The clothes shops they like depends on their tribe. Don’t do what mil did and ignore all suggestions and gave them £100 vouchers for a shop neither have any interest in whatsoever. Such a waste. Just give cash. Or nothing frankly.

theadultsaretalking · 23/09/2024 10:04

Depending on your budget, my 16-year-old would go crazy for anything from Subdued (though the sizes are also a bit limited) and would love a Stüssy hoodie.

familyissues12345 · 23/09/2024 11:37

Albeit older, my DS's girlfriend likes Berska, Pull and Bear and one that I can't spell - Strav something Grin

It's been an absolute eye opener, as I'm the proud owner of two shopping hating boys. Loved having her join us on a city break over the summer! So nice to have someone to have a wander around the Mac store with

Calliopespa · 23/09/2024 11:43

alwaysonadiet1 · 20/09/2024 23:13

@domesticslattern why do you loathe Brandy Melville?

Most of the tops look like underwear.

Id avoid this brand op unless you know she likes it ( and her parents do too!! )

LaerealSilverhand · 23/09/2024 11:48

Charity shops, EMP, Killstar.
