Smart Schoolboy 9...wtf?

BeBopaLula75 · 13/09/2024 08:05

My DS14 is refusing to go to school today because it's Friday 13th and then told me about Smart Schoolboy 9...and that there are rumours he's going to be at my son's school (I know that there are probably kids at EVERY school thinking the same).
I've just googled it, as I hadn't heard about it, and bloody hell, he's weird. 😳
Can anyone shed any light on this or give me anything to calm my boy down...please??

Does he believe every bit of shite he reads/sees online?

Sounds like you need to have some conversations with him and try to develop his critical thinking skills and help him learn the difference between fantasy/AI and real life.

I don't really understand how hes got to 14 without you having those conversations tbh!

KombuchaHauntsYourBurps · 13/09/2024 11:17

And I say that as the parent of a 14 year old boy with complex ND needs so it's not like I only have a PFB angelic toddler and don't know what parenting teenagers is like.

These conversations are ongoing and need constant revisiting, alongside monitoring their internet usage and limiting inappropriate internet content. By letting your son reach 14 with free access to the internet and seemingly no ability to understand what is real and what is bullshit, you're doing him a huge disservice.

BeBopaLula75 · 13/09/2024 16:00

Wow...look at you and your honesty. We regularly have conversations about all manner of things and have a strong enough relationship that he clearly feels comfortable talking about things that are worrying him. Your judgement is really quite horrible. Are you one of those people who post stuff about being kind on your Facebook and then let rip anonymously at strangers?

I was simply asking if anyone had heard anything about this, because as the mother of two ND teens, I hadn't heard a word, and when I started searching, found it hard to make any sense of what I did see. He has been through a very unsettling couple of years, and has anxiety issues and hadn't seen this online initially, but was shown it at school and was freaked out.
I'm really glad that my relationship with my children is warm and caring enough that they can talk to me about their concerns. And we do, so thanks for the love and you have a great day.

I had a message from DD's secondary school that parents should advise their DC not to watch or follow smartschoolboy9 on social media, and that they have alerted the police and tiktok.

Not sure what, if anything, has happened for school to alert the police and tiktok.

cookiebee · 13/09/2024 16:36

Hi OP, I watch a lot of YouTube, there is a YouTuber called Nick Crowley who posts videos concerning dark internet rabbit holes, they are not graphic content, but interesting and informative videos about some people’s strange or dark behaviour online. About two weeks ago he posted an informative video about an individual who posted as an apparent child called smartschoolboy9. The web pages were incredibly strange and at times bordered on abusive and exploitative in content. The videos became weirder and weirder and it was discovered that the person behind this very strange school boy character was in-fact an adult male.

To all accounts he has or is being investigated by the police, but as more people have seen this YouTube video the obvious rumour mill has started, with people online interacting with him and even trying to track him down. There was possibly also an internet post made by this man that showed a real life kid being chased by him. There is I believe no danger to your child attending school, but watch Nicks original YouTube video and it explains this weird person, hope that helps a bit.

so your son is prob fine but tell him that there's a very low chance that your kids gonna have a inertet pred pull up at his school but smartschool9 is this guy who like posts weird videos online is is spoussed to be an inertet pred

Oh do get a grip Hmm

There is no chance at all of this happening. Don't be so gullible. Just because some fruit loop made a tiktok about it doesn't mean it's actually real life.

@BeBopaLula75 I'm sorry you thought I was being harsh. I do stand by it though. Does your son seriously believe this rubbish? Perhaps it's time to limit his access to tiktok/YouTube if so.

There's something off about one of the replies here (from a first time poster Hmm). I've reported it. Given what's under discussion, other posters should be wary and vigilant.

How you imagined any parts of your contributions could be taken as positive is beyond me, and I am autistic!!

I searched for this subject because my 10 year old autistic daughter heard about it from her friends at school and became frightened. She isn't gullible. She is autistic. She became frightened by the sound of it all and so I searched it.

I do not believe for a second that you actually intended to provide any positive help. Your troll-sounding, condescending and judmental-esque contributions were unnecessary.

I imagined mumsnet was for help and support.

Mintgum · 14/09/2024 10:40

Kids need to get offline and read some books.

I wasn't quoting the OP though. I was quoting harry97 who does sound very gullible and does need to get a grip. There isn't a "low chance" of this actually happening, there is no chance at all. It's just internet bullshit rumours, and I absolutely 100% stand by my point that if children can't distinguish fact from fiction then it's time to look at limiting their internet access.

I wasn't talking about your granddaughter, who I didn't even know existed when I used the term "gullible". She's obviously vulnerable due to her ND and has been told absolute rubbish by classmates - but where did they hear about this twaddle? It pretty much all comes down to inappropriate [for their stage of development] access to the internet.

Sar246 · 14/09/2024 15:14

This is real, My daughter is 12 and told me about him, she was starting to get scared. Her social media is limited, restricted and monitored and the story is going round schools regardless of social media. I did think it was a load of rubbish and only looked online to show her it was all made up! Well turns out it isn't, albeit he's not turning up outside schools dressed as a school boy in heels, he is, by the look of it a very creepy, disgusting person from Doncaster but been driven out for being weird and now lives in London. He's not a mad axe murderer but by the sounds of it a person that should be locked up and the key thrown away. For some reason he's not. Internet safety is really important though, we can't keep them away from it, it's the way the world is now.I talk to my daughter about internet safety all the time, thankfully she is happy watching dancing and funny animal videos. Just keep an eye on what she is doing on her phone and talk to her about it. If I thought my daughter was looking at or talking to someone she shouldn't be then I will check. I know from a very close friend it is so important, her 11 yr ended up in full conversation with someone wanting to be her sugar daddy, knowing full well she was 11!! It's the same as anything just be careful xx

I can't find a single reputable news source to back up the existence of "smart school boy 9". Can you share one?

Fickle50 · 14/09/2024 15:25

For a start she is my daughter, not granddaughter.

What made me respond to your contributions was not necessarily the language you chose to use, but more so the fact that you were so judgemental and seemed to want to invalidate the input of others in basically quite a haughty way.

If you genuinely want people to look further into how kids have access to content and the role that adults play etc etc, they may be more receptive to words which convey a more positive and constructive tone.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 14/09/2024 15:25

@cookiebee I was going to say the same about Nick Crowley, I love his channel and his video about this freak was very interesting and I hope he does get looked into by the police

benefitstaxcredithelp · 14/09/2024 15:28

God there’s some scary shit online today. You have to be one step ahead as a parent.

If it’s not this weirdo it’s men paying teen girls for photos of their feet (which is a gateway to photos of more. I’m sure you can figure it out).

JeremiahBullfrog · 14/09/2024 17:21

On one hand this sounds like usual secondary school conspiracy rubbish (I seem to remember when I was at school there was a big thing about the Earth being destroyed by some asteroid). On the other I'm surprised a 14-year-old actually believes it!

Do you require all things to be backed up by news sources to believe them? Do you enquire with the Daily Mail if it is raining outside? Use a bit of common sense. Smartschoolboy9 is a real person that is severely mentally unwell. Their internet profiles have since been removed therefore there is nothing for the news to report on.

Not too long ago there were grown adults injecting themselves with bleach to stop covid. I don’t think a 14 year old getting creeped out by the thought of a predator being at their school is a concern.

No, but when I google "smart school boy 9" the first result is...this thread. Whereas when its raining outside I can, you know, see and feel and hear the rain. Not exactly comparable.

It's obviously just some tiktok bullshit. Kids need to be taught how to fact/sense check what they read/see online. End of.
