Do your teens change for bed?

My girls usually cant be bothered age 14 and 15. I brought them up to put nightwear on but in the last year or so they will happily just go to bed in what they had on in the day. They do change out of school uniform when they get in however. But weekends and school holidays they dont change and just go to bed on what they wore that day even if been somewhere fairly dirty.

The exception to this is if they bath or shower before bed, then they do stick nightwear on or just a random t shirt. The younger one has better personal hygiene than the older one who usually cant be bothered to wash either.

I do sometimes ask them to change for bed but i havent made a big thing about it because I have far bigger problems with them as in they have additional needs.

It does gross me out a bit though.

Is this normal for teens generally now?
(I always wore and wear nightwear).

@Itsallok

what?? What's different about clothes she's put on at 4:30 and loafed about in, than put on at 9:30 and gone to bed in. She's hardly been running a marathon in between!

Exactly. DS will often change for bed when he gets in from college at five something. I usually change after dinner, I don't like changing into cold clothes just before bed!

iolaus · 01/11/2022 19:05

No

They may change into pyjamas when they get in in the evening and lounge around the house in them and then wear them to bed but they wouldn't sleep in what they wore out in the day (son who is at uni I wouldn't know - but he took pyjamas with him)

I think this SO often when I come onto certain MN threads- hmm why are you asking.

Not saying the OP in this thread and others aren't genuine but def best to err on the side of caution on the internet. Starting conversations about teenagers bed clothing, older kid nappy wearing, inappropriate touching, Jesus what else have I seen recently - some of these threads are so blatant and people jump on to comment without a second thought about whether tracey1992mum is real or not 🤷‍♀️

Especially when MN is known for trolls ("trolls" being a nicer word for it). I think even Reddit has a better rep than Mumsnet for that!

Yep. Exactly what I was thinking. There are some weird threads on here.

Teen dds change into night clothes. They do often sometimes stay in the night clothes all day at the weekend/in holidays.

Teen ds sleeps in the tshirt that he wore in the day plus boxers. He showers every morning.

DD aged 10 sleeps in the t shirt she wore in the day too. And changes in the morning. In the winter she'll wear a onesie instead.

gogohmm · 01/11/2022 19:12

Mine didn't wear pjs much by that age but they do take clothes off sleeping in underwear or nothing (happily wander to the bathroom with very little on too) but then neither do I

NotRightNowNo · 01/11/2022 19:12

DS has been known to sleep in the clothes he needs for the next day to save time when he gets up. He's always ploughed his own furrow 🤣

pilates · 01/11/2022 19:15

I think it is an issue as the poster says the eldest doesn’t wash either.

DarlingDarwin · 01/11/2022 19:26

Like a PP I wear whatever top I’ve worn all day, then change in the morning. Pyjamas are a completely made up concept

Even weirder is the eye rolls I have been getting for raising the subject.

It's not normal and shouldn't be allowed.

You don't have teens do you? 😆

Ha ha ridiculous.
My teens take off their trousers and sleep in their T-shirts they've had on during the day. They shower in the morning and are perfectly healthy.

What do people think is going to happen? Not the.....the.....dreaded..........dreaded........gerrrrrrms 😱😱😱😱

Don't worry about them, they obviously don't know about the pervy weirdos we often get on here asking about our children/toilet habits etc!!!!

I would agree that posting such information on Facebook wouldn't be a good idea but this is a completely anonymous forum isn't it?

madnesss · 31/10/2022 22:24

I'm not discussing what my teenager wears to bed.

Very sensible.

Yes, it is, and if you are happy to post it then go right on ahead.

I'm sorry I even mentioned it now, I don't know why people can't just ignore my post if they feel it doesn't apply to them.

Singleandproud · 01/11/2022 19:58

In our house you can't go to bed wearing your 'day' clothes if you've worn them out the house.

If we get up showered and wearing lounge wear like leggings and t-shirt then that's fine if similar is put on after school and we've stayed in since then, then that's fine but otherwise no, you get changed into bed clothes and proper clothes like jeans are never worn in bed.

AltheaVestr1t · 01/11/2022 20:04

I don't think this is unsanitary, but if doesn't sound very comfortable!

pigalow27 · 01/11/2022 20:06

I think it depends. My DD changes into and wears specific sleepwear mostly -PJs, sleep shorts and T shirt but sometimes, if she's been wearing joggers and a T shirt to just stay at home for a day or , in Summer, a vest top with joggers or shorts, she might keep the top on to sleep too if she isn't planning to shower until the next morning.

Does it only matter if people online know who you are?

mrssmith45 · 01/11/2022 20:12

I have 3 teen dd's and as soon as they are home from school/work they shower and put pjs straight on! Sometimes it's just T-shirt or T-shirt and shorts but never in their clothes. I get what your saying op about picking your battles but it's not a great habit to get into in my opinion.

WellingtonSquareTree · 01/11/2022 20:18

Both of mine have always got changed from their school clothes anyway and then change into joggers and t shirts sometimes with a hoodie on too. They also get changed for bed as they find super soft clothes for sleeping in. They shower in the mornings. They are teen boys.

Both Dh and I also change into some form of sleepwear.

maddy68 · 01/11/2022 20:20

I often go to bed in the t shirt i have been wearing does it matter?

Upsidedownagain · 01/11/2022 20:26

Mine were brought up to change for bed but stopped at some point mid teens. Partly because they often lounge in bed before bedtime anyway. I didn't like it but now I sometimes keep a vest or shirt on myself if it's cold - otherwise I sleep only in pants as I just get too hot wearing anything more these days.

Mine change in the mornings, though not sure underwear is always changed.... . Oldest now out of teens and often wears pyjamas when she isn't going out anyway!

They don't like to shower just before bed - usually morning or early evening.

Oblomov22 · 01/11/2022 20:27

Ds's wear boxers. Or fluffy sleepy-suit in winter.

Kabbalah · 01/11/2022 20:27

My 14 yr old son wears a T shirt and shorts but I’m not sure my DD’s , 18 &16, wear anything.
