Do your teens change for bed?

My girls usually cant be bothered age 14 and 15. I brought them up to put nightwear on but in the last year or so they will happily just go to bed in what they had on in the day. They do change out of school uniform when they get in however. But weekends and school holidays they dont change and just go to bed on what they wore that day even if been somewhere fairly dirty.

The exception to this is if they bath or shower before bed, then they do stick nightwear on or just a random t shirt. The younger one has better personal hygiene than the older one who usually cant be bothered to wash either.

I do sometimes ask them to change for bed but i havent made a big thing about it because I have far bigger problems with them as in they have additional needs.

It does gross me out a bit though.

Is this normal for teens generally now?
(I always wore and wear nightwear).

I think it's pretty strange to be wearing day clothes into bed at night. If I knew someone like this who did it on a regular basis I would secretly judge and think they're kind of weird. Just as I do when I see people wearing pj's into the supermarket. My mind just automatically thinks LAZY!

I can't fathom how sleeping in the clothes you've worn all day would be comfortable. Maybe they'll grown out of it?

Calandor · 01/11/2022 17:47

I think that's unusual. I sleep naked and DP in PJs but I've never known anyone to just sleep in their clothes../

MOTY1995 · 01/11/2022 18:09

The only time my son would have done this is if we have had a super busy day and crashed out on his bed

Yeah, same here. If I'm at home I mainly wear a baggy t shirt during the day, so at bed time I just change my trousers for pj bottoms and get into an bed. Shower in the morning 🤷‍♀️

Anotherbloodyusername2 · 01/11/2022 18:18

It would be odd/uncomfortable to sleep in jeans imo

Sumthingsweet · 01/11/2022 18:20

Who cares ? You do what you do

I'm not discussing what my teenager wears to bed.

fine, but no need to open the thread.

Nobody needs to open a thread. I made that choice, it's not for you to decide.

I think this SO often when I come onto certain MN threads- hmm why are you asking.

Not saying the OP in this thread and others aren't genuine but def best to err on the side of caution on the internet. Starting conversations about teenagers bed clothing, older kid nappy wearing, inappropriate touching, Jesus what else have I seen recently - some of these threads are so blatant and people jump on to comment without a second thought about whether tracey1992mum is real or not 🤷‍♀️

Especially when MN is known for trolls ("trolls" being a nicer word for it). I think even Reddit has a better rep than Mumsnet for that!

LeMoo · 31/10/2022 22:50

They ought to be wearing nightwear (or nothing) ..even if its just a a t-shirt.

Its not good for mind or body to sleep in day clothes.

But I'm not judging as you say there are additional needs and you have other battles to fight.

@LeMoo so changing out of one (warm) T-shirt, into another (cold) t-shirt is better for your mind & body.

Aquamarine1029 · 31/10/2022 22:58

It's not normal and shouldn't be allowed.

🙄🙄🙄

SkylightSkylight · 01/11/2022 18:33

Aquamarine1029 · 31/10/2022 23:07

I hope you do. We can't force them, but we can let them clearly know the standards we expect to be upheld in our home, and that there will be consequences should they not follow them. It's called parenting.

Oh FFS 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

its PJ's not crack.

Athenen0ctua · 01/11/2022 18:37

Ds will change after school into t-shirt and pyjama shorts, then wear that to bed.

SkylightSkylight · 01/11/2022 18:39

Cwcwbird · 31/10/2022 23:13

So even though he sleeps well and is comfortable, is an absolute pleasure to be around, is flying academically and well adjusted socially, very well behaved in and out of school, is very clean and dresses appropriately in all other scenarios, I should force him to wear pyjamas?
Forcing people to wear clothes they aren't comfortable with in the privacy of their own bedroom isn't really a standard of our home to be honest.

@Cwcwbird Yeah, tell him some crackpot on the Internet thinks she's better than everyone else & he's lowering the standards! 🤣🤣🤣

NukaColaQuantum · 01/11/2022 18:40

Nope, even if they bummed around the house all day in their pyjamas from the night before, they’ll change them before bed.

SkylightSkylight · 01/11/2022 18:42

Hopperhead · 31/10/2022 23:15

Revolting, sorry.

You know what they say about upholstery on public transport? So why would you want to take all those germs into your bed?

@Hopperhead their clothes they've been wearing around the house are unlikely to have been on the bus...

but even if they'd spent all day riding the busses, what exactly do you think is going to happen if they sleep in their clothes?

SkylightSkylight · 01/11/2022 18:44

Tallulah28 · 31/10/2022 23:17

A subtle warning about what? 🙄

@Tallulah28 that some bloke might be getting off on a discussion of Fluffy Pj's v
tshirts 🙄🙄🙄

SkylightSkylight · 01/11/2022 18:50

Itsallok · 31/10/2022 23:39

Because it's gross. Good bed hygiene is called that for a reason. Ok it's mainly about having a tidy space without distractions - but going yo bed in clothing that is not primarily used for bed means you go to sleep in clothing thats likely yo be stinky

@Itsallok

what?? What's different about clothes she's put on at 4:30 and loafed about in, than put on at 9:30 and gone to bed in. She's hardly been running a marathon in between!

Just spluttering out my tea here, thank you for this!!

BrutusMcDogface · 01/11/2022 18:51

my dd changes into lounge wear/pjs when she gets in (mostly) and then keeps that on for bed. My ds sleeps naked. I change into my pjs when I put the little one to bed. I love being able to get straight into bed after teeth brushing etc, still warm and comfy from earlier in the evening.

yup, pick your battles!

SkylightSkylight · 01/11/2022 18:52

Threeboysandadog · 31/10/2022 23:50

Ds1 changes into pyjamas. Ds2 wears his boxers and t-shirt he was wearing during the day. Ds3 varies between the two. They all spend far to much time in the shower. I change into pyjamas every night and have to battle for a slot in the shower queue.

id rather have teens that spend too much time in the shower than ones that need instructions to find it!!

depends what you wear all day I suppose. I don't suppose many of them are going to bed in their uniforms or jeans etc.

hiw are leggings ms/joggers/T-shirts any different to Pj's??

riotlady · 01/11/2022 19:00

If I’ve worn a comfy t shirt during the day, I keep it on for bed and just take my bra off and put on some pj bottoms. Thought that was fairly normal tbh but mumsnet is a different beast!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 01/11/2022 19:01

Depends although he's not quite a teen yet, some times he'll put on pj's when he gets in , other times like today he's in a t-shirt and boxers which he'll probably sleep in .

It is perfectly 'normal/usual. MN is getting weirder & weirder.
