Any experiences of Dianette for acne in your teen DDs?

DD has acne which flared up before and during her period. She has been taking Lymecycline antibiotics which help but she’s still getting these bad outbreaks around her period. Doctor had just recommended the pill Dianette and it sounds like the right thing for her but wondering if anyone has any experience with their DDs. She’s 14 and a half.

Didn't do a thing for my daughter. We went down the roaccutane route which was miraculous

Nodney · 07/09/2021 15:59

Didn't do a thing for me either. Roaccutane worked. I was a bit older than 14

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 07/09/2021 16:01

Yes I was put on it, probably a simular age, didnt work, ended up with roaccutane like the PP. That did the trick although it is a harsh drug!

PugMumm · 07/09/2021 16:02

I used it when younger with acne. Didn't work (I'm 28 now).

The best thing was face washes and maybe an antibiotic if very bad.

FreeBritnee · 07/09/2021 16:04

Worked beautifully for me for two-three years then stopped working.

CharlotteRose90 · 07/09/2021 16:06

I went on this pill at 16 for my skin. Stayed on it till 23/24 and my skin was perfect. Now I’m 31 and get the odd breakout but it did wonders for my skin.

SunbathingDragon · 07/09/2021 16:07

It was great for my skin as well.

PinkFootstool · 07/09/2021 16:11

I was on it for years, absolutely brilliant. Stopped that one aged about 23.

EezyOozy · 07/09/2021 16:12

I took yasmin and it was FANTASTIC

Waitwhat23 · 07/09/2021 16:15

Dianette didn't work for me. I did a course of roaccutane about 15 years ago for my severe acne and now use Aknemycin (a topical solution) when it flares up again. I do have PCOS though which may have had an impact on the effectiveness of the dianette.

paisley256 · 07/09/2021 16:18

I was on this for 5 years and and my skin was lovely. As soon as i stopped it the spots returned though.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 07/09/2021 16:19

I used it after the roaccutane and it did keep it at bay I was on it for ages but it was linked to liver damage and I was told I could no longer take it. I moved onto yasmin then which worked amazingly for me.

Was on this for years and it did a pretty good job for my hormonal acne but then got a new doctor who was horrified I'd been on it so long, though can't quite remember which side effect they were worried about. Possibly increased risk of blood clots?!

BoofTheFloof · 07/09/2021 16:35

Did a good job with my hormonal acne. Masked pcos symptoms well. Bit of a shock when I went off it!
Best I found for hormonal acne was Spironolactone. Life changing.

Yep, I think so. I was on it for YEARS (after trying so much else. Rofl at face washes!) and it worked perfectly. I was terrified when i had to come off it, but luckily my skin stayed OK.
Pebbledashery · 07/09/2021 16:41

I have to say, Dianette was the only, and I mean only.. Thing that cleared my skin up completely.. I took it for the maximum length of time and had to change my pill and was offered Yasmin, which was almost as good.
I would definitely go on Dianette again if my skin flared up again.

Thislittlefinger123 · 07/09/2021 16:44

Worked brilliantly for me. Late teens, terrible skin. Cleared my skin totally. Was on it for a few years, hut even after I came off it my skin stayed good Smile

maddy68 · 07/09/2021 16:44

It was a miracle cure for me

Doubledoodlemummy · 07/09/2021 18:13

Worked for me! Was on Dianette and then yasmin later.

BusySittingDown · 07/09/2021 18:18

My DD has never been on it (she has amazing skin - cow) but I was on it for years and thought it was brilliant! They made me come off it after 10 years but my skin is ok still. It's not perfect, I still get the odd break out but it's fine.

bettertimesarecomingnow · 07/09/2021 18:24

Yasmin is very very good!! Dianette is not

happytoday73 · 07/09/2021 18:27

Dianette worked brilliantly for me at a similar age. Moved on to yasmin later which was also good

EezyOozy · 07/09/2021 19:01

I have found that they don't like giving our yasmin as it's expensive, I've found I need to push for it and not be talked into swapping it for something cheaper.

Chimchar · 08/09/2021 07:01

I tried it 30 odd years ago and it made me incredibly sick...nausea and vomiting for the two or three days I took it. I don't seem to cope well with hormones though, in any form!

My ds is another on this thread who had great success with roaccutane.

Sweetpeasaremadeofcheese · 08/09/2021 07:07

Absolutely brilliant for me.
I would give it a try before Roaccutane.
