That's it really. He's under 18 and has a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I'm devastated. I know they're very fashionable but that's not the point. If we'd discussed it I'd have obviously made sure he waited until he was 18. The legal age!! I'd suggested he put it somewhere it couldn't be seen with a shirt on.

As it is he won't be able to do the career he wants with a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I know MNet will jump down my throat but I'm devastated.

We're booked for consultation to get it laser removed but fuck knows how I'm going to afford it,

His girlfriend has dumped him over it and he really regrets getting it done.

I'm just posting here to moan really, can't stop crying. Stupid stupid little boy.

I'd be annoyed too. I guess I'd be apprehensive about him going away and that it was a lot of trust and then he betrayed that trust. Who was supervising him? Or was he with mates?

As for paying for its removal, then he's old enough to get it he's old enough to get rid of it and pay for it.

Deep breaths though, it's not the worse thing in the world, it can be fixed ish and hopefully he has learnt something.

PhilCornwall1 · 28/08/2021 16:57

We've had the grammar Nazi, the "kool kids", the "OMG you're overreacting" just need the "well you sound hard work/controlling" and the "Peary clutching" and I'd have a Full House :)

You missed out "your house, your rules".

AnnieBanannie1 · 28/08/2021 16:57

Op I still need answers!!
What's the tattoo and his career?!

Ozberry · 28/08/2021 16:58

I’m dying to know how you can get a drug tattoo without realising it’s a drugs tattoo.

If it wasn’t obvious to him, would it be obvious to others? What drug are we talking here?

JazzerMcCreary · 28/08/2021 16:59

I’m really struggling to work out what a drugs reference he ‘didn’t know about’ would be! Please tell us op!

I work in the NHS (one of the few places I think tattoos might be considered an issue?). Plenty of visible tattoos. I think officially they are ‘discouraged’ but not actually a deal breaker unless offensive. An obvious drug reference would be an issue but he could always get it altered or covered by a reputable artist once he turns 18.

Depending on where he got the tattoo, he might well have been ‘the legal age’. Worth checking that it was done in a decent place with good hygiene standards, single-use needles etc. Though. That would be my main concern.

Cuddlypinkcat · 28/08/2021 16:59

Sorry OP I assumed he was nearly 18. How old is he?
If he's 17 I couldn't get too vexed as judging by most youngsters he'll be getting them soon anyway.
But if he's much younger then you have a point.
I expect you'll be laughing about this when he's 25, either way Flowers

Kithic · 28/08/2021 16:59

@saltedcaramel87

reminds me of this Grin www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2012/aug/11/devastated-by-my-sons-tattoo

I'm betting it's the chemical structure for THC or something similar

Fucking hell what a load of twaddle, devasted because he had a tattoo. Imagine if he did something really bad.
Kanaloa · 28/08/2021 17:00

He’s unlikely to be much younger than 18, given that he’s gone away on holiday alone. It’s unlikely a 15/16 year old would have been allowed to do so.

Peanutsandchilli · 28/08/2021 17:00

@Enb76

If it is a marijuana leaf no-one will care and it won’t stop him from having the career of his choice. Poor boy, you are all overreacting.
Well, I know I wouldn't be impressed with a teacher or a doctor with a reference to illegal drugs permanently inked onto their body. I'd hope it absolutely would prevent him from persuing either of those careers, and many more.
GreenTartan · 28/08/2021 17:02

Worth checking that it was done in a decent place with good hygiene standards, single-use needles etc. Though. That would be my main concern

That was my main concern, no reputable tattooist would be tattooing an obviously under 18 year old, without photo ID.

He says the tattooist used a new needle( or whatever it's called) and he took it out a wrapper. But who the fuck knows.

Honestly I could kick him from here to kingdom come! Little shite!

allyouneedisconnection · 28/08/2021 17:02

I'm in a career where no tattoos are allowed. They do still exist.
OP, I agree he needs to put in the extra hours at work to get it removed if that's what he wants.

TheWashingMachine · 28/08/2021 17:04

I work in tech loads of people have tattoos and a friend who is a fund manager and has his own fund has one.

TurquoiseDragon · 28/08/2021 17:04

@Yourstupidityexhaustsme

Unless it’s a swastika you’re being unreasonable.

It’s a tattoo, should he have gotten it on holiday? No. Do teenagers do stupid things? Yes.

He can have whatever career he wants with a long sleeve shirt and a watch on that wrist.

Calm down. He doesn’t need laser removal. He was old enough to get a tattoo, he’s old enough to deal with the consequences.

He's under 18, as per initial post. So, he's not old enough to legally have a tattoo in this country.

Still, I've not had any problems in getting a job with my tattoos, including a 5cm diameter flower on my wrist.

Cissyandflora · 28/08/2021 17:05

He’s three months under 18 though.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 28/08/2021 17:07

@TurquoiseDragon I meant metaphorically.

He’s old enough to have gone and chose to get it done (although illegally) therefore he can deal with those consequences. He’s made his bed, OP shouldn’t fix it for him.

Howshouldibehave · 28/08/2021 17:10

Can I ask what career this is not allowed in, @GreenTartan?

Blueskyrainshowers · 28/08/2021 17:13

@Cissyandflora

He’s three months under 18 though.
Where does OP say this?
Regularsizedrudy · 28/08/2021 17:15

Where did he get it done? (As in which country). Don’t want to panic you but if they will tattoo someone underage god knows what standards they have, he could get a blood disease

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/08/2021 17:15

Where were the adults in all this? Presumably he didn’t go away alone as a child?

ThreeFlowers · 28/08/2021 17:16

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79

“Mine got one at 17 the bloody dogs name and a star so he’s now walking about with that on his leg”

😆 What a plonker😂🤣

Theworldisquiethere · 28/08/2021 17:16

@Cissyandflora

He’s three months under 18 though.
You’re just making things up! OP still hasn’t specified his age
AnnieBanannie1 · 28/08/2021 17:20

@Cissyandflora

He’s three months under 18 though.
Where are you getting this from 😂🙈
tickledtiger · 28/08/2021 17:21

poor guy.. what a silly mistake. I hope it can be covered/removed.

CampaignToo · 28/08/2021 17:21

Surely it depends where he was whether it was illegal?

Cissyandflora · 28/08/2021 17:24

The op has said he is almost 18
