That's it really. He's under 18 and has a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I'm devastated. I know they're very fashionable but that's not the point. If we'd discussed it I'd have obviously made sure he waited until he was 18. The legal age!! I'd suggested he put it somewhere it couldn't be seen with a shirt on.

As it is he won't be able to do the career he wants with a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I know MNet will jump down my throat but I'm devastated.

We're booked for consultation to get it laser removed but fuck knows how I'm going to afford it,

His girlfriend has dumped him over it and he really regrets getting it done.

I'm just posting here to moan really, can't stop crying. Stupid stupid little boy.

Many tattoos are understated and tasteful. Not everyone will assume its about drugs.

My tattoos( yes op I have several) are personal to me.

Ddot · 29/08/2021 21:46

Can you imagine being a politician, policeman, solicitor with a drug tattoo on show

But it quite simply would not be on on show if you, wore sleeves, a watch, used makeup ... It's not a full face tattoo for Christ sake.

Not on your list, but I work with an excellent teacher who is COVERED in tattoos and you would never know at work because of the choices she makes with her clothing. She would be a fabulous teacher without them too because they make zero difference to her ability to do her job.
karenjkayjay · 29/08/2021 22:49

I can’t imagine a tattoo on a wrist would stop any career no matter what it was, it’s not the end of the world

I know for a fact at least a couple of UK politicians have had tattoos! I also know a policeman with tattoos although they're not visible. And several teachers.

My Gradpa got drunk and had ‘Ethel’ tattooed on his wrist. My Grandmas name was Molly. She hit him with a saucepan, he hit the floor and was concussed and it was never discussed again. He did have it covered...with a fish! 🤷‍♀️

Daffi · 29/08/2021 23:23

Why's he on holiday without you at 17?

Hellocatshome · 29/08/2021 23:25

Why's he on holiday without you at 17?

Because he's 17 not 7 presumably

PwySyddYma · 29/08/2021 23:25

At 18 I came home with a tattoo on my wrist...my mother rolled her eyes

At 19 I came home with a larger tattoo taking up a large part of my torso...she rolled her eyes

At 20 I basically dissapeard for 2 days a missing person report was filed....she fucking went ballistic when I walked through the door unaware that every man and his dog had been looking for me, because my phone ran out of charge and I just went on a two day drinking bender.

My mother knew which battles to pick bless her 😂

ididitsocanyou · 29/08/2021 23:27

It won’t stop his career prospects. It is young and he is naughty to do it behind your back but I’d just shrug and let it go. Tbh, if he’s going off on hold and wanting to get Tats done at 17 then there’s probably worse to come. Grin

ididitsocanyou · 29/08/2021 23:27

*hols not hold!

Kanaloa · 29/08/2021 23:28

He’s 17, not 7.
Bouledeneige · 29/08/2021 23:28

Ddot yes I can. What's the big deal? I expect some have have piercings too. I know one male MP with a nipple piercing. It didn't give me the vapours.

Mscarna · 29/08/2021 23:32

Old enough to go on holiday without you, old enough to get a tattoo. You allowed it.

What kids go on holiday on their own at 17
ImInStealthMode · 29/08/2021 23:44

Interested to know what the drug related tattoo is. Cannabis leaf surely too obvious? A smiley face maybe but I'd think that's more related to emojis than acid house these days?

Equally interested to know what high-flying career would be ruled out due to a small tattoo in a place easy to cover.

ImInStealthMode · 29/08/2021 23:46

@Daffi I did. A week in Crete, glorious. Didn't get a tattoo though (I'd already done that back home Blush).

At 17 many are preparing to move across the country or further to live independently at Uni or take off on a gap year. Why is a week in Magaluf so out of the question?

Yup. What a reaction to someone making his own decision about his own skin. Absolute madness.
SionnachRua · 30/08/2021 00:30

@Daffi

Why's he on holiday without you at 17?
Presumably he's weaned and toilet trained by now...he is 17 years old you know, not 17 months.
Toomuchtrouble4me · 30/08/2021 01:36

Well no, not reasonable or legally. Yes he can legally travel alone under 18 and no he can’t legally get a tattoo under 18.
ImInStealthMode · 30/08/2021 04:37

@Toomuchtrouble4me Depends where he travelled too. The legal age in Spain is 14, in France 16 and in Bulgaria, Italy, and others there is no minimum age.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 30/08/2021 06:40

@Esspee

You are not being unreasonable OP. The arseholes on here trying to tell you it is no big deal obviously have no chance of a high flying career where tattoos, especially the type your son now has, will exclude them. I would be distraught if either of mine did this. I hope it can be removed but make sure he gets a job and pays you back.
Grin that's absolutely hilarious.

"High flyer" here with 4 of them. People at absolutely every sector and level have them.

Dyrne · 30/08/2021 07:00

Why are posters bending over backwards insisting it definitely won’t affect his career prospects? A drug tattoo certainly would be an instant “no” in the police or armed forces, for example. It’s not Pearl clutching about tattoos in general, it’s specifically that it’s drug related.
