That's it really. He's under 18 and has a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I'm devastated. I know they're very fashionable but that's not the point. If we'd discussed it I'd have obviously made sure he waited until he was 18. The legal age!! I'd suggested he put it somewhere it couldn't be seen with a shirt on.

As it is he won't be able to do the career he wants with a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I know MNet will jump down my throat but I'm devastated.

We're booked for consultation to get it laser removed but fuck knows how I'm going to afford it,

His girlfriend has dumped him over it and he really regrets getting it done.

I'm just posting here to moan really, can't stop crying. Stupid stupid little boy.

OP posts:

Haha it's too outing but it was quite large and connected to a well known wizard franchise.

Suffice to say I can more than sympathise with OP's young son and wouldn't get too angry with him

I was proper pissed off when my DD (now late 20s) got her first tattoo at 18. On her thigh. I was like Hmm 'you know I am not a fan of tats!'

She said 'good job it's MY body then hmmmm?'

'Well, please don't have any more' I said.

Nearly ten years on, and she has 13 tattoos.

I am beginning to get the feeling she doesn't care what I think about the tattoos! 😂

Couldn't wish for a better daughter, and there's nothing she wouldn't do for us, and I love her to bits! So I'll tolerate the tats!!! Grin

@GreenTartan

I know you're pissed off, but there's nothing you can do about it. Just roll with the punches! Flowers

  • Disclaimer... It's not the tattoos I dislike per se, it's the fact they are permanent...'

@helentomelon oo oo I know! Is it a lightening bolt??? No wait, a huge golden snitch?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/08/2021 20:23

I have a mug with a cannabis leaf on and I have never touched the stuff !

I have a pair of infinity earrings ( tiny , silver bought from Accessorize).
I didn't know till I went on a PREVENT course the infinity is used in gang/county lines ., usually a tattoo

I honestly had no idea , why would I ?

Think more the latter!

Nottheduchess · 28/08/2021 20:27

@MyPatronusIsACat that’s an excellent mature stance to take. I am that daughter and though my parents don’t like them, they know it’s my choice and would never dream of making me feel bad or guilty about having them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/08/2021 20:27

Is it a lightening bolt??? No wait, a huge golden snitch ?

I'm going with a big ole' tattoo of Hagrid's hairy big face .
Am I right ? Wink

But I am a chartered professional position and it's never been a problem although you can see it when my hair's up
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2021 20:32

OP is massively reacting.

But that woman in the Guardian makes OP look totally sensible. She's fucking barking.

You didn’t get a Harry Potter “scar” lightening bolt on your forehead did you?

Years ago I nearly got the deathly hallows tattooed on my wrist but resisted temptation.

Bless you, thank you! Smile Flowers You and your parents sound lovely. Grin

MyPatronusIsACat · 28/08/2021 20:47

@GreenTartan I wouldn't worry about the job thing - (like your worry about your son not being able to get a job in his chosen career.) Sooooooo many people have tattoos now (especially the under 40s,) that if employers decide to discriminate against people with tattoos, they'll be dismissing the vast majority of the workforce!

malificent7 · 28/08/2021 21:45

Tattoos are practically the norm now surely?

Blossomtoes · 28/08/2021 21:49

They seem to be. Our four kids are 29 to 46 with not a single tattoo between them. They’re pretty unusual.

helentomelon · 28/08/2021 21:58

Im still struggling to think of a career where a wrist tattoo would be a deal breaker

BluebelllsRosesDaffodills · 28/08/2021 22:18

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo

I have tattoos, including one on my wrist and one on my finger, have also had hair of every colour, currently blue and purple. My tattoos have never had any impact on my career and I'm in a Director position for a large global organisation.

What career will be affected by a wrist tattoo in this day and age?

Many places won’t allow blue/ purple hair, I’ve never seen a doctor/ lawyer/ accountant with such an outlandish appearance….
helentomelon · 28/08/2021 22:20

@BluebelllsRosesDaffodills I'm a chartered professional with tattoos and I have friends in all sorts of professions with tattoos. On the reverse... I can't think of a single profession these days here or would be unacceptable

TomFuckery · 28/08/2021 22:44

Slap some Dermablend on it until it can be properly removed
No one's died 😂

Craftycorvid · 28/08/2021 22:53

Tattoos are pretty ubiquitous these days and I think attitudes to them in the workplace have changed. Also, it’s on his wrist so very easy to conceal if need be.

Got my first one a few years ago and I’m....er....over 18, shall we say. I never dared tell my mum (it’s a large tattoo but placed where it’s easily concealed by my clothing). I also have a piercing which is pretty visible! I’ve never had any comments on that either.

whatswithtodaytoday · 28/08/2021 22:54

@BluebelllsRosesDaffodills When my son was in hospital recently one of the doctors had one arm covered in tattoos - many were cartoon characters. She also had brightly coloured hair (can't remember what now, just not natural colour). She looked great, and my son found her fascinating.

LochinverSwimmingPool · 28/08/2021 23:37

OP, many years ago my DD came home having had her nose pierced.
She was 14.

I went round to the pharmacy where it had been done and knocked seven bells out of the pharmacist and told them I thought that was unprofessional and illegal

I made DD take it out and the hole closed within days, thankfully.

I know why you're so cross, OP, and I agree with you.

Fruitbatdancer · 28/08/2021 23:45

If it provides any smidge of comfort my Idiot DSS got a tattoo at 16, given by a mate, who bought a ducking machine on eBay. So it was a shit tattoo and smudgy. But was the name of his current 5 min girlfriend. “Simone” written down inside of wrist. Made ridiculously awful and hilarious by the fact when he wore a watch it said “Simon” as it hid the E. his girlfriend was not impressed. Neither was his dad.

Just to add nonissue with it being a blokes name just that it shouldn’t have been, and it made the ridiculousness of it 10 times worse!!

GallowwayGirl88 · 29/08/2021 09:02

@BluebelllsRosesDaffodills
I changed account about 6 months ago, first time I met her in person she had a rainbow coloured Mohawk, a few weeks ago it was shaved off completely. She also has tattooed.

She’s a fricking amazing accountant and is a tax lecturer as well, “for fun”.

BabyRace · 29/08/2021 09:35

So OP is devastated, reads every post and ignores all the questions. I call bullshit.
