Ds is 14. Showered this morning and came back from school really smelly.
Wondering if an antibacterial soap bar would be more effective?
Uses Sure Men's deodorant, clean clothes every day

Yes maybe try soap instead of shower gel

FelicityFlamingo · 04/11/2020 17:29

Use bar soap and tell him to wash twice under his arms. I also find a stick deodorant better than a spray for my 13 year old DS so he used the Dove cream ones.

Doing the above means he always smells fresh but miss one day? I know about it Grin

Feellikefrighteningyeah · 04/11/2020 17:51

He always smells bad when his behaviour is horrible. Hormones ? !

We’ve had good results with dettol soap bars, they are only around £1.20 for a twin pack and I noticed in boots yesterday they were 70p which is a great price.

Whatisthisfuckery · 04/11/2020 17:53

Following because my DS honks. When he got home from school today I chased him into the shower and had to spray air freshener around.

I pity the poor teachers.

bathtimebubblebath · 04/11/2020 18:05

Shield soap is amazing

Nodney · 04/11/2020 18:10

If my DS uses shower gel he gets smelly v quickly. Soap works much better for him. I also pity the teachers!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 04/11/2020 18:16

Try nuud. It honestly does work.

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/11/2020 18:19

Tell him to shave his arm pits.

BaseDrops · 04/11/2020 19:05

Are his shirts maybe holding pong? Can you have a real go at the pits and serious wash?

Feellikefrighteningyeah · 04/11/2020 19:53

No I soak them and wash with Dettol laundry cleanser. It's definitely his armpits

Try a deodorant stick, look for aluminium in the ingredients list and that it says it lasts for several days. I use something like this: www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/841541/rexona-men-antiperspirant-deodorant-stick-sport after every shower and it really does work. If I don't, if I go for a small amount of exercise like a walk in the sun I really stink in the evening. But if I use this I can't smell anything. As it stops you from sweating. Body sprays and roll ons are useless

dementedpixie · 05/11/2020 09:41

Sure Mens antiperspirant contains aluminium
Antiperspirant roll on contains it also

dementedpixie · 05/11/2020 09:46

In fact Rexona looks like your version of Sure

Hi I've bought a Sure maximum protection stick to use in the evenings used with spray in the daytime. The stick gives a couple of days extra protection apparently

Get him Perspi Guard from Amazon, I had awful BO, didn’t matter how clean I was, it would still come out, friend recommend this and wow, amazing! You put on at night after cleaning armpits and then don’t use any other deodorant (which was weird at first!). I tend to use it every two nights or so. Trust me!

GuyFawkesDay · 05/11/2020 22:02

Also try some halo sports wash, rubbed into pits of shirts neat. It's magic.

Wash blazer, they really can be stinky as they're polyester which is marinated in teenage armpit every day. Minging.

Feellikefrighteningyeah · 05/11/2020 22:03

Thanks for these brilliant suggestions Smile

Is he washing and rinsing thoroughly. I know DH had a chat with DS (13) about how ‘armpit’ means the whole underarm/chest area, not just rubbing a bit of soap in the middle with one finger. And then rinsing well.
Changing to bar soap made a huge difference, he uses Mitchum roll on deodorant and I wash his blazer weekly. We seem to be on top of it now!

WindsorBlues · 05/11/2020 22:12

Try switching his deodorant. Sure doesn't work for me and actually causes me to sweat.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 06/11/2020 11:05

Bar of soap and something to actually scrub with, don't just use the soap to lather the body. My sons both have those body puff things and bar soap. Smell lovely, even at the end of the day.

scentedgeranium · 06/11/2020 12:06

Just thought I'd add that if it's any consolation my son grew out of his smelliness. At 14 he honked.
Ten years on and he's very fragrant!

Strawberry33 · 06/11/2020 22:55

My son stinks 24/7. He doesn’t seem to care that much

NC4Now · 06/11/2020 22:58

14 is a very smelly age. Does he actually wash properly in the shower. Both my boys had a tendency to stand under the water but not actually wash. It passes...

Tempnamelady · 06/11/2020 23:00

Soap soap soap ! DS used to reek and his clothes still reeked after washing . Ditched the shower gel and bought soap , ( not Dove, proper soap , we like Cidal). Did the job !
