What are your kids saying?

I heard a friend's kid talking about 'upgrading' a pizza - getting extra toppings!

Is it me, or is anyone else feeling a little left behind by modern day slang. What happened to Skill and Ace?

Are any of your kids saying incomprehesible stuff?.... bovvered?

Bad means very good, apparently

Lilymaid · 03/05/2007 12:29

I have DSs so all I hear are grunts (loud or quiet).

rantinghousewife · 03/05/2007 12:35

Yep. my teenie is a ds and he says very little to me apart from "yeah", cept it comes out sounding more like a low rumbling sound. Does that count as modern day slang?

Rats · 03/05/2007 13:14

I think that's more slung than slang!

And what about the ultimate accolade of "brill, skill, ace"?

Rats · 03/05/2007 13:32

Caining for hurting

Usual irritating ones like "chill mum...don't stress" or even worse "take a chill pill"

FiveFingeredFiend · 03/05/2007 13:36

"stressy"

when i raise my voice.

fizzbuzz · 03/05/2007 13:50

Grrrr...stressy..God I hate that one!

Blandmum · 03/05/2007 13:51

'random'

fizzbuzz · 03/05/2007 13:54

AND that one....

yeahinaminute · 03/05/2007 14:10

"Quality"

pronounced "kwali - ee"

Mind you I'm glad he's grunting this as I was sure he'd lost the power of speech for quite some time !!

PenelopePitstops · 03/05/2007 14:11

'stressy'
'ohmigod mum'
'shizzle'
'siiick - meaning good
'lipsin'- kissing

all from my sis, will tey and remember some more in a minute!

PetronellaPinkPants · 03/05/2007 14:13

bad meant good when I was a teenager too! (a long long time ago that would be...)

There were a bunch of schoolgirls (posh ones) on my train this morning and like they said like "like" every like other word and omg like it got on my like tits

I almost expected the train driver to say "the next stop is like Putney"

PenelopePitstops · 03/05/2007 14:14

PPP like is every other word from my sis! very annoying!!

GameGirly · 03/05/2007 14:23

DS1 says "like" ALL THE DAMN TIME. Driving me insane. Posh school (somewhere near Putney, ha ha!). I thought I was paying my money so they'd teach her to speak proper. Obviously not. And if she says "random" once more, out of context, I won't be responsible for my actions. Oh, and everything's "manky" at the moment, too.

Pimmpom · 03/05/2007 14:25

nice (pronounced niiiiiiice) in a sarcastic way!

PenelopePitstops · 03/05/2007 14:32

niiiiice another one!

I only see my sister occasionally but it makes me laugh!

gingertoo · 03/05/2007 14:36

What about punctuating their sentences with 'yeh?', as if they are checking your understanding because you are just a little bit thick!!!

E.g. "I was in Art, yeh?, and Zoe, yeh?, was talking about some random stuff, yeh?, etc etc etc

Trouble is, you find yourself answering 'yeh' after every 'yeh' because they seem to want you to reply!!!!!!

WanderingTrolley · 03/05/2007 14:40

Does anyone know what shizzle means in English?

apparently, one shizzles one nizzle.

I have no idea what a nizzle is either, but i'M hoping the translation of 'Shizzle' will shed some light.

I know a 6 year old who does the 'like' thing.

I say, "is it x or is like x? Don't tell me what it's like, tell me what it is!"

Posh schools round 'ere full of yeahbutnobutyeahbutno.but.

Jomist · 03/05/2007 14:42

Buff is ds1s favorite at the moment. I thought buff was what you did to cars to bring a nice shine after washing them.

cheeryface · 03/05/2007 14:43

the yeh thing is the worst, ds has started doing that.

oh and anything good is mint

Jomist · 03/05/2007 14:44

Random...that's the other one. Everything I say is now 'random' apparently

cheeryface · 03/05/2007 14:44

buff? in what context is that used ?

Jomist · 03/05/2007 14:45

That girl's buff...(as in good looking)
