GCSEs 2016 Results Day Thread

Could not find a thread for this so decided to start one.

DD needs 5 c's including a B in English and Geography.

My DD needs B in chemistry and B in physics. She did biology last year. She's so nervous.

Ds gamed his way through exams, on Xbox till past midnight on nights before. I'm actually hoping he doesn't do well or what does that teach him? I've always praised effort over achievement. Good luck everyone....

My son got one A, one B, nine Cs and 3 Ds..I feel disappointed although he's happy. He didn't get the B he needed for his A level course, and he could have done better! The school changed their 'teaching' methods after he started there and I feel they let him (& others down) I voiced this many times, to various teachers, head of year, deputy head of the school and the head! All I got was 'time will tell' and proof will be in the results..which it is!..but to the detriment of the pupils! I'll obviously be taking this up again with the school, but it doesn't change things, and I can't be happy for my son..which he thinks makes me a bad mum! Probably because all the other mums just said 'there, there, it won't even matter in a few weeks!'..seriously?! Is that the attitude I should take?

I'm disappointed because he didn't reach his potential, and potentially didn't get onto the course he wants because he underachieved! DS is never a 11 A* pupil but he was predicted and very capable of better grades and due to lack of teaching and laziness didn't meet the target. For some I know they are amazing but for him, it's like say the Tom Daly situation..should have placed in the medals..but didn't reach the final!

My son got 1 A, 6 C and 1 D so so proud of him but hes so disopinted in him self.......his D is in Maths its only 3 marks off a C so its been remarked but he needs a B to do the A-levels course that leads on to university...... hes wanting to be architect. Any ideas were we go from here. xx

So you can't totally blame the School them if done is down to laziness, could all be laziness rather than different style of teaching.

Lady P..My sons school was the first to introduce iPads for teaching, also the one where a child was being groomed whilst in school using her iPad!..just saying! They decided to completely change the way they, I'll use the word teach loosely, changed pupil to learner, teacher to facilitator and basically made the pupils 'independent learners' only my son is a typical immature boy who at 14 took this to mean no homework! The school stopped setting homework and told them to go and teach themselves, by auditing their knowledge and filling in the gaps! There were no checks and balances to see what was happening, we had several meetings where I voiced concern and was told it would be fine! He wasn't taught the maths curriculum, just parts they thought would be in the exam. They watched utube style videos to teach them maths..I could go on, but I'm sure you'll see my issues. This school used to be sought after to get into, but at the last results tables were well below previously failing and problem schools! I applaud any school for trying new things, but when we parent voiced concerns about lack of teaching and homework, have the humility to know your strategy is not working and pull out all the stops to fix it! They didn't, kids have underachieved..their experiment has had a big impact! There will be some bright kids that will still have achieved as they were that way inclined anyway, but not the likes of my DS who I know had he been taught properly as my DD had been previously at the same school, he would have done better. I'm sure we could have done more too! But we were reassured by him and the school that the shortfall would be addressed at revision sessions..clearly not!! Hmm

Gin - if your ds took 14 gcses then I'd suggest he was overworked and could have got better results in 10 or 11 exams.

Bibbity, some he took a year early. That was his total and no, definitely not overworked, believe me!

It's my opinion that there's no need to take 14 GCSEs, sorry. If he'd taken 10 or 11 then he might have been able to take them all this year and thus got better grades due to a whole extra year of lessons in the subject? Or am I missing something?

That was taking into account 3 sciences. Rather than core science, he did seperate physics, biology & chemistry. I respect your opinion, but we were advised by the school that he was capable of doing these. Most schools do that many in my experience. He has the brains for it, given the right teaching etc. I think he could have achieved his potential elsewhere, but thanks for your opinion Smile

My dd is doing all 3 science subjects but is limited to a maximum of 11 gcses. She has not taken any in Y10.

14 GCSEs is a ridiculous number to take. How do they fit this many subjects into the curriculum?

DD took 10 and got 5 A*s, 3 As and 2 Bs.
