Teenagers and Clothing What Brands/Shops do your Teens wear.

My ds 16 needs new jacket, jeans a couple shirts. He is not interested in clothes that much. I have two younger teens that get their own stuff themselves, but I wanted to know what shops are good for a 16 year old. I don't want to buy cheap clothes (primark, supermarket) because they are a false economy but also don't want to fork out for stuff that he could grow out of quickly.

If he doesn't grow out of them he will still only wear them for a year or two.

I have 16 and 19 year old boys. Neither much bothered about clothes, not interested in brands. I started giving them a clothing allowance at 16 so they buy their own.

They buy from H&M, Primark, River Island, Topman.

16yo DS doesn't complain if I buy him SuperDry.

I think the hoodies are overpriced, but the jackets are actually decent quality for the money.

I recently bought him jeans from GAP mens, just because they fitted much better than any from NEXT.

I also by him Billabong/Quicksilver etc.

Shirts I would probably buy from H&M as I'd know he wouldn't wear them, but I inisist my DSs always have a shirt, in case of emergency. Like the Queen coming to tea.

Thanks will have a look. I know the shops. He is so difficult to shop for. I'm hoping he will take interest in clothes and shop for himself

Gap, H&M, Jack Wills, Hollister, Primark, Matalan, Quiksilver, M&S Autograph.

DS is 16 and I don't anticipate him growing much more, at least in height, so I'm inclined to spend a bit more on him these days. I haven't had to buy him a new jacket for years though as he refuses to wear them!

How much clothing allowance do you give them, Pea?

I'd have no idea how much to give DS1, if I'm honest.

I would guess what I spend of DS would work out £50 pm.

I would buy jeans in top shop, shirts and polo's in the sale in debenhams (Fred perry and Ben Sherman) and jacket in superdry or hollister.

I have bought some clothes from New Look men's section for DS16, got a really nice jumper for christmas and I thought it was hit and miss but he loved it and has worn it with his chinos and jeans. Also he likes Jack and Jones.
He bought himself a nice coat from Primark and isn't bothered that it isn't designer.

Lynettescavo That's not far off. I worked out roughly what I had spent on clothes in a year and divided by 12. It came to about £45 a month. I didn't include coats, not that he would wear one. Boys are so much cheaper than girls unless you factor in the food
As he is very stingy he hardly bought a stitch and saved it all .

It does depend whether they are still growing of course. DS1 stopped growing at 13 but was over 6' by then. DS2 on the other hand was much later stating to grow and is 6'3" but still growing.

Mine wears Primark and he is growing so fast it hasn't turned out to be false economy for us at all as DS2 is more than happy with getting DS1's stuff that he has worn about 3 times.

DS1 likes Top Man, and isn't bothered about designer stuff or labels unless it's football gear.

No winter coat as the teens round here don't wear coats.

Where do your other boys shop? I have 14 and 13 year olds, I mainly buy their clothes as they are not that interested. I like them to look nice and fashionable :o

They spend most of their time either wearing school uniform or jersey shorts and t-shirts, yes, even in winter :(

I bought them some nice Superdry t-shirts from the ebay outlet, One has a Superdry hoody and the other Hollister (both 2nd hand from ebay) Jean/trousers are mainly Next or TkMaxx bargains (Diesel) and I got some brilliant Levis brand new from someone on a FB selling page.

jesrsey shorts come from H&M or Next

M&M direct can be pretty good for bargains.

myotherusernameisbetter I wouldn't know what was fashionable and if they are not interested why be hung up on brands? You are buying second hand clothes just for the label

Not really, I've bought Hoodys from Next, Primark, Topman, H&M and the Superdry etc ones are miles better quality. They tend to be almost as new, just worn in enough to look comfy etc. and at £10-15 for adult sizes they are bargains.

The reason they sell 2nd hand is because they wear so well, regardless of label or original price, if they didn't last they couldn't be sold on.

I like them to fit in with the other boys - eldest was badly bullied when he was younger so I'm probably overly concerned about them not standing out.

We are going shopping today it's probably going to be a nightmare with ds1. My other two buy clothes on their own. I'm not sure what shops they buy from but they are regular sizes, ds1 is a rugby player and has a bigger body (muscle not fat) that's why a substantial amount of clothes his age dont fit.

Surely at 16 he is wearing men's clothes anyway? My boys are a men's Medium or Large in most shops. I actually find it easier now as you get a better variety of trouser/jeans sizes rather than trying to get them by age.

Mine were out of age sized clothes in primary school.
Just thought of another good source of men's clothes TKMax. They often have odd sizes, DS2 managed to get some 30"waist 36" length jeans from there.

If you shop cannily, no-one will ever know that your DC are head to foot in supermarket clothes. And the quality is fine for growing children and their parents ; perhaps the odd duff item, but I have stuff that has lasted for years.

No he fits mens but cannot fit into some of them clothes that teenagers wear (e.g. skinny jeans).

Nothing wrong with supermarket clothes just if i buy something i want it to last a few years.

Visit a well-off/student area and trawl the charity shops. Can turn up some pretty good quality (ie outgrown) clothes. May even encourage your DS to create his own style or just make a dash to the high street. Either way - win-win.

Jd sports has a variety of brands so is worth a look. Top man and Burton are ok too.

My ds1 is 16 and has been choosing his own clothes for years, he likes Topman for jeans, American apparel and vintage stuff. There's no way on earth he'd wear anything with logos or branding on it. He's a proper style queen!

DS1 - 15 and DD - 13 don't give a fig about labels thank god. DS recently grew out of 28inch jeans so we went to ASDA and he picked two pairs of 30 inch jeans within 5 minutes - cost me the grand total of £25 for the two pairs
