DSD age 14 is with us fairly often, but is at mums tonight. I went into her room today and saw that she had left her dirty shirt on the floor, no big deal, picked it up to put in the wash, underneath was 2 pairs of dirty knickers, both with used sanitary towels still attached. This is not the first time and I have already spoken to her about this. I just find it really disgusting. I'm not the worlds tidiest person, but this is just ewwwww. I left them there, part of me wants to deal with it so I am not living in a dirty house, but part of me thinks that cleaning up after her won't help. Is this normal or should I be worried. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Leaving it there is good if she is back soon. My dd did this once. I found a few days worth of used pad/knickers combo's on her floor. Refused to pick them up. She ended up shoving them in a bag with the intention of sorting them and eventually I chucked the bag out in disgust!! You are not alone...

But yes, have words!!

My mum would have put them on my pillow - strangely never forgot to bin things :)

I'm glad its not just her. I do find it strange, she is obsessed about showering and has a right strop if we ever try to get her to leave the house before she has spent the entire morning washing her hair, yet she does stuff like this. Oh well.

my dsd is the same age and a bit of grubber too, we have found many a pair of period stained pants stuffed down the side of her bed (my deluded dh has told himself it's because she's too embarrassed to put her stuff in with the washing machine........ nonsense, it's because she messy and lazy (she knows how to use the washing machine). she has been warned that if this keeps happening we just won't buy her anymore underwear.

I'm "only" 32, so my teen years weren't "that" long ago, but I don't remember doing anything as disgusting!

OP - I'd tie them all in a plastic bag and when her friends are over, give them back!

As a teenager I left one on the window ledge, and the poor window cleaner got an eyeful. I've never been more mortified!

So yes, it is normal. Teens have scatterbrains. Don't pick them up, she'll get the hint eventually.

when I get too pissed off with all the cereal bowls, dirty socks etc. mounting up I pile up everything off the floor and put it all in their beds.

I never did this as a teenager and I find quite frankly disgusting! My DD is the leaves them in her room. I am sure that no one wants to see their own never mind anyone else's

Yup, my DD now 16 does this occasionally too. I have no idea why.
She is otherwise very clean and fragrant. I think it is just embarrassment.

I have a pedal bin lined with plastic bag beside loo in the bathroom for my dds to use. Occasionally find knickers in it too but just tie bag and empty it, then put in a clean plastic bag.

Had this too!! I bought fragrent bags! A little like nappy sacks I suppose lol so she could put them in there and tie it up! The smell was awful never mind the sight of them!

Yep, fairly normal for teenage daughters....unfortunately! Yuk, yuk, and more yuk! Just remember to check the washing pile very carefully!!!

I have found more than one still attached in her wet washing. (Lovely and clean by then of course. Ffs) they make a fucking mess if they burst in the machine.

Dirty knickers never seem to find their way to the wash bin. I vaguely remember doing the same myself though. Infact I used to stash them behind the wardrobe .

I would have been absoloutely mortified to have left something like that lying around anywhere in the house! I'm as lazy as they come but that is grim. I'd be furious at that and would be having serious words. Not acceptable and i refuse to accept that it's normal. It isnt.

Surely just leave her room to her..should be a no parent zone! Embarrassing for all concerned. Put a lined bin in her room.

I'm with cats on this one.
I can't see its a good idea to start accepting this kind of behaviour as 'normal'.
It's revolting and utterly lazy.
One hanging about is being a scatter brain, several is being a cant be arsed.

In fact, at about 14, I had flushed a tampon down the loo at bff's house and had not realised it had not flushed and her (moo of a) mother came and announced at dinner that I needed to sort out the 'period mess' I had left in her bathroom. I was mortified.

But the thought of leaving a used towel on the floor......

Buy her a pedal bin for her room with a pack of scented nappy sacks.

I would NOT clean it up.

My cousins wife (yes wife!!) is this gross & my auntie once found a bin bag full of used towels when helping them love house!

Do you get on? Does she resent you at all? This sounds like a 'dirty protest' to me. Has her dad said anything to her about it?

Not going in her room isn't practical for various reasons. The airing ccupboard is in there. Also don't see why I shouldn't. She comes into our room for stuff too. I don't generally go through her stuff, but she is supposed to bring her washing out and if she doesn't and I don't fetch it we end up with her not having anything to wear to school. If she was here full time it might be different, but we do cut her some slack for the hassle of living in 2 places.

Anyway DH found them and dealt with it and will speak to her so its his problem now!
