Ok sorry a bit far fetched but sometimes......
Where to get a 16 y/o's prom dress from?!?!?! She is doing her best to keep the price low and only really considering dresses you send your measurements off to China for which I know come back nothing like the pictures. My friend did this for her wedding dress and fortunately could afford to buy another one, I definitely can not.
She has tried monsoon, m&s, debenhams and asos and says nothing is right. She wants long and elegant and not at all big fat gypsy wedding. Probably in a cream colour to match her date's burgundy suit.
Any tips on places you might have got your dd's? I dont have time to sit and trawl the net what with being a single parent and working full time so on the scrounge for some advice.

Right shes calling me to look at another one.... argh!

The best thing about the ones from china are that the majority are lace up the back and totally adjustable. We just got dd's - came in 10 days.

She is totally delighted! She actually saw it in a shop , fell in love with it and then I found it on EBay. The shop was selling it for £120 - on EBay the exact same dress was £40 - and I mean the exact same.

The 'designer' (not at all designery obviously) was Grace Karin on EBay - thousands of positive reviews.

DD2 got hers in TKmaxx. DD1 rented hers. Some of their friends did buy the Chinese ones online and were pleased with them.

what sort of budget? i have been looking for my niece and have seen a few nice ones for around 70 pound in quiz h. they have an online shop

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 05/03/2014 19:52

I bought my three bridesmaids dresses from one of those Chinese websites and they were great. One needed a quick and cheap adjustment as one bridesmaid was rather large of nork but generally I was really pleased with the outcome. They were double lined and much better than I expected.
I think it was jenjenhouse that I used.

gymboywalton · 05/03/2014 19:52

what about this?

My dd2 got hers from a reduced rail in a small wedding shop last year.
One of her friends got hers from China and it was lovely,as Laurie said most of them come with lace up backs.

SweetPeaPods · 05/03/2014 19:56

Have you looked in coast?

monikar · 05/03/2014 20:11

Do you have a Quiz shop near you - they are also online. DD got her prom dress in there and I think it was £40 in the sale. They have a lot of choice and are mostly what you describe - long and elegant.

lambbone · 05/03/2014 20:14

DD1 - TKMaxx
DD2 - ASOS

House of Fraser - £35 in the reduced bit. "Everyone else's" was £200, of course Hmm

BumpyGrindy · 05/03/2014 21:03

this is nice

Nocomet · 05/03/2014 22:25

DD's £80 frim a bunch called Psyche who I can't recommend.

They were very quick, but they sent the wrong dress.

Actually, it turns out a more expensive one that DD loves, so it worked out ok, but still annoying.

AtiaoftheJulii · 06/03/2014 08:53

dd1 - TKMaxx
dd2 is looking ... mostly at ASOS I think. Want to take her out and try on a few so she has a better idea of what style she wants.

mrsjay · 06/03/2014 09:18

go UK dresses (online) you will see loads of dresses there for a fraction of the price they come from Honk Kong ( i think) dd when she had her prom got a beautiful one for £50ish

mrsjay · 06/03/2014 09:19

OH i noticed or Debenhams had loads of dresses in their sale rail probably making room for this years stock

intheround · 06/03/2014 09:30

Another vote for Tkmaxx
BUT if you have a really posh area in your local town, visit their charity shops- you can sometimes pick up designer evening dresses for a bargain.

mrsjay · 06/03/2014 09:34

OH god sake HONG KONG* Blush

IamInvisible · 06/03/2014 09:38

I've used Sexy Her (I know it is an awful name) for ball gowns in the past. They are really, really good and are at the end of the phone, in London iirc but definitely in the UK, if you need help.

The quality and finish is great for the money, infact I have seen the same gowns in the shops round here for 3 times the price. I usually size up, but did buy one that didn't fit, I sent it back and they sent another.

We're off to another in July and I shall use them again.

purplebaubles · 06/03/2014 09:43

FB selling pages - ask!

There's about 10 going on our local one at the minute. All of them were £250+ new, and people are only asking £30 for them! Some absolutely gorgeous dresses.

I personally would never buy new.
