Common Teen Excuses

I thought a thread on the most common teen excuses could be interesting and informative.

Such as....

The last bus never turned up, when they come home late.

My dd was allowed 15 friends over one evening while we went to the pub. We got home to 40+ teenagers and 2 policemen. Her excuse was she was too drunk to stop everyone coming in. That went down well.

My DD (15) wants her nose pierced and when I said no way I was treated to:

It's my body I should be able to do what I want
Everyone else is allowed
You all treat me like I'm 12
You are so out of order
all accompanied by much stomping about, slamming of the bedroom door and almost always a few tears!!

Anyone else want to reach for the Wine ????

Oh yes Maryz - "the teachers keep picking on me" is a classic.

Along with "the teacher never told me" (although clearly they told everybody else).

Apart from that usually being an out and out lie, I wish I did not have to do things because I did them "last time"!

DS1 told me yesterday that he didn't pick his wet towel up off the bathroom floor after his shower, because "I had to pick up DS2's towel before my shower, and I'd run out of picking-up energy"! Hmm Grin

(a) "couldn't ring because phone run out of charge / money"

(b) "couldn't ring because I lent my jacket to a girl cuz she was cold and she went home in it and it had my phone in the pocket".

....."couldn't come home from party cuz everybody had fallen asleep and I was locked in and I didn't want to wake them. Obviously, I couldn't ring because see either (a) or (b) above"

No wonder I am grey Grin

I kept calling DS1(18) to get out of bed on Saturday and he said "it's not my fault I'm still growing and a scientific fact that I need my sleep!"

You weren't listening when I told you.
How am I to guess you would act so weird?
I can't help it if I take after you.
Even Nana was allowed to do it FGS (ride pillion on motorbike without a helmet)(Yes she was, but times have changed)
So how was I supposed to know that?

I didn't realise being grounded for a week meant I couldn't go out with my friends on Sunday.

I forgot
I can't do my homework as the teacher never went through the work in class, I need to go and see her (at least twice a week)
Why is it always me, you never believe me, (erm no DSS when school ring and say you have done something, I suspect it is you)
Oh my Day's how am I supposed to remember that
Do you want me to run a marathon as well (when asked to do anything from setting table to clearing plate away)
God, my life is sooooooooooooooo rubbish, I hate it, and do you know what it's all your fault!!! Erm no see # above which usually results in punishment which makes your life more boring!

I forgot is by far the most used, closely followed by the homework one.

DD is the queen of excuses.

ratbagtcatbag - all of your list!

plus:

  • I forgot to write it down (for some reason this is seen as a completely fair and reasonable excuse for not doing homework, and not one that should result in a telling off)
  • She never said when it was due in (therefore I won't bother to do it at all)
  • Because I hate you (all purpose excuse for not doing anything, from homework, to tidying room, to helping set the table, to getting up/going to bed)
  • You've LOST it! (leaves crap all around the house and expects to find it in the same place 3 weeks later)

If you didnt keep moving my stuff I wouldnt lose it.

No ds1, the reason you lose things is because you leave a trail of possesions like breadcrumbs going from room to room every day

I forget to take my planner to school so I cant do my homework

No ds1 all your homework is online. In your email. SO the planner is irrelevant

I didnt hear my phone ring.

Dont make me laugh. Your phone is permanently attached to your hand. .

Some good ones there and yes heard a lot of them...

DD..No not drunk, heat stroke..says she soaking wet from the rain and puke down her top.

Or I didn't do anything....So you know that says Police on top of the car you are in and not Taxi?

The Police are always picking on me!!

More usually though just little chirruping noises. Not excuses, I think, but they might be, because I rarely understand them...

Morning - "grunty chirrup"
Bye - "grunty chirrup"
Why are you wet through when you have a jacket in your hand? "sad chirrup"
Granny has brought you some chocolate creme eggs - "happy chirrup".

I got a really nice hug last night though... Grin
