Which sanitary towels does your daughter use?

I need to get prepared to my daughter starting her periods, and I'd be grateful if you could let me which sanitary towels your daughter likes to use. Think I'm going to buy 2/3 lots combination of styles, sizes but it would be handy to know what works for other girls.

Bodyform with wings, normal size, think they're in a pink packet.

She hates always, can't remember why though.

Either Always or Bodyform- with wings.

Get her invisible ones for the day and thicker for night time.

I remember my first one. I was 12. And in bed at night I was paranoid that blood was going to escape the pad some how. I put toilet roll all over in my knickers, like a nappy! Blush So reasure her that the pad can handle it!!

Always with with wings. I got her a little box with an assortment of towels and tampons to experiment with when she started. She uses nighttime towels too.

Thanks for your replies. Look like Always and Bodyform with or without wings would be good choices and some style of nighttime towels. It's great there's so much choice these days - I can remember many leaks!

90% of girls at our school used Always, presumably because we had a little talk from the Always lady with free samples etc!

The important thing IMO is that they are individually wrapped as it keeps them clean when she's carrying them around at school, and it just feels cleaner to dispose of them in a little wrapper too!

Cottons are lovely though, can get them in Boots.

I buy my DDs bodyform without wings, and I use them too. I also buy them cheaper, thicker ones, like boots own, or lidl ones, which they prefer for the nighttime.

None of us like always.

Always my dd tried those lilets for teens and they were tiny and held nothing. She was so upset as it leaked everywhere love her

My DD uses Lilets teens daytime and night time ones, having tried various other brands. I don't think her periods are too heavy though, she has never had any pain either. (lucky thing, I was in agony from the first month and used pads like paperback books Sad)

Most companies will send you free samples which is a good way to try them out.

Think I might get some Bodyform and Always with/without wings and a pack of Lillets teen range. A bit worried whether the Lillets teen range will cope if she is heavy (I was really heavy immediately and sometimes had to change every hour - luckily school were great and I had two teachers to support me through mega accidents!) but if they can't cope, they'll do for lighter days. Thank you!

I always use bodyform so that is what she uses sometimes you can get tins with packets of bodyform handy for taking them to school dd says

The Orange Bodyform ones. I had to buy her new proper pants instead of the short like ones she wore.

Also stock up on some Vanish for any leaks/unexpected accidents, I was pleased it removed stains from DDs pants no problem. My mum always used to leave mine and my sister's pants to soak in a bowl on top of the washing machine Blush

CinnamonCandle, soaking pants brought back memories - there were always some soaking in an old saucepan under the stairs when I was growing up. Will encourage her to use older pants when the times comes, but luckily have quite a good spray from Tescos.

Morrisons own pads. normal ones in a purple packet. long enough, padded andthey absorb!! have tried everything with my dd age 10. 80p a pack!

oh and get black knickers. i bought size 8-10 for dd, from primark. saves staining, and looks less scary when there are leaks.

Dd hated towels because they felt so sweaty, so quickly went to tampons. She prefers lillets - anything with an applicator unnerved her. I remember buying a variety of sizes for her.

She had a terrible time at first because of heaviness and pain, tried menlafamic acid and then went on the pill. I was no help really as my periods are so non existent that I don't have to use anything. But drs are very good at helping with heavy periods now so no need to suffer in silence with a bar of chocolate like Just 17 magazine used to advise.

I agree with piratecat about the black knickers. And I make sure my DDs always have a little bag in their school bags with a couple of towels and a spare pair of pants. I told them that if their period ever starts unexpectedly and their pants are stained in school, just to throw them away instead of carrying them around all day. (Obviously if it happened at home I would just wash them!)
