Do you wake your Teenagers for School in the morning ?

Hi there, I'm just wondering how many of you still wake your teenagers for school each morning, or how many expect them to set an alarm and wake up and make sure they are off to school on time each day ? I would be interested in your answers please. Thankyou .

i wish that he would get up himself. if i didnt wake him drag him out of bed then he'd be late for school every day.
i hate that every morning is such a hassle though.

I wake her, then go in about 10 mins later to make sure she hasn't gone back to sleep. I don't mind doing it, though, just part of my morning routine.

My Dad used to tell us twice it was time to get up, then throw dog biscuits on the bed to get our Norwiegen Elkhound to jump on the bed to wake us up. Worked everytime! :D

They have their own alarm, but I am up and would go in to them if they weren't up ten minutes later. Only happened once so far. It's a responsibility they need to take, IMO.

DD gets herself up,does her breakfast and is gone before i get out of bed.

No. Left to his own devices he'd sleep the day away. I wake him and repeat the process umpteen times until he's up

Ds 13 gets up at 6.30 and dd at 7.
They have a shower rota so if they are late getting up, no shower.

DD1 I have to do the waking up and checking till she actually gets up. DD2 gets herself up (much, much earlier than DD1 surfaces). DD2 is a morning person, DD1 is definitely not.

No, dd (15) gets up and does paper round then comes home, makes own breakfast and gets herself to busstop on time.
Ds(7) gets himself up and can make his own breakfast too.
Only ds2 i have to sort out but hes only 2

No - I leave the house at about half 6, so go and give her a kiss goodbye, and she gets herself up with her alarm at 7.30.

Dd1 13 sets her alarm herself each evening.
If I don't hear her once I'm dressed, I will knock on her door, more often than not she is awake( ish ) and slowly getting dressed.

DD is too young for this yet but my mother, who had many teenagers to wake utilised the following method.

1. Make a cup of tea for each teenager
2. enter the teenagers room and place the cup in their sleeping hand (not on the side)
3. the teenager then had the following choice

a) wake up, sit up and drink tea
b) stay asleep and burn hand
c) roll over and spill tea all over self.

This was surprisingly effective.

I go in and open the blind and say hello. He usually is semi awake, having had his phone go off under his pillow but I like to see proof of life before I get on with my shower etc

Both my DDs (13 and 15)have alarms to wake themselves up but I do always go in a check that they have gone off and that they haven't gone back to sleep.

My DC 14 and 16 get themselves up and sorted in the mornings as I am out of the house at 6 am.

I bought ds1 an alarm because I was sick of the moaning from him. After day three he pleaded with us to wake him up. We compromised and we wake him up on a school day and he gets himself up for his Saturday job at the weekend.

If he's late for work that's his problem and he will have to learn. Luckily so far he has got up.

During the week if he won't get up I send in ds2 whose 3 to wrestle with him. That soon gets him in the shower.

No. I don't. I go into his room and call him, switch the light on and eventually go back and pull the covers off. But that apparently doesn't wake him. He wakes himself half and hour later and falls down the stairs cussing that he's late

Nope, mine have alarms and use them. Nagging at them to get up just pissed me off - made no difference to them and I've still be fuming after they left the house. DD1 was late for school so many times over 2 terms in y9 that we got a letter from an EWO. But that was a year ago and she's been great since then. If it 's getting towards the time she needs to leave the house, I just stick my head in and tell her the time.

DD1 wakes herself up then wakes up DD2. They both want to have showers and dry hair.

I wake up DS by a gentle foghorn shout up the stairs.

DS2 14 gets himself up at 6.29 am exactly every day.. no alarm it's just his own pattern..(he's autistic..it has it's upsides!) and I then get him showered. DD2 17 has an alarm but sleeps through it so I go in and prod her til she looks half conscious. DS1 18 has his phone alarm but I nudge him before I go to work, unless he has an early start at work. DD1 is at uni so I just HOPE she gets up

My main reason for getting the older two up is that the fight for the shower is hideous unless we are staggered nicely...!

Yes, usually several times each morning and then she is late for school everyday anyway, she is nearly 18, it is not something I am proud about, but I really don't know the answer...

Ds (15) gets himself up everyday himself. Has his own alarm. I on an occasion may have to give him a shout incase he has overslept but it is quite rare.

DH wakes the DDs at 7am. Then I go at the foot of the stairs rooms and call out "Keep moving!" and "Are you standing up yet?"
This works well most of the time.
If there is a special reason for one of them to get up early I set my own alarm and get them up at the required time, say 6-15 or 6.30. That takes a bit more effort.
