Is this too ‘common’?

Basically I’m having a cover up tattoo done next week.
Its to go over a bad barcode tattoo I had done when I was around 18 🫣
obviously I’m limited to what I can have to cover it because it’s so dark & I’ve found this butterfly with flowers that my tattooist said will work.
Im just wondering are butterflies really common? I like to be a bit different but also want something pretty!

Is this too ‘common’?

Butterflies are incredibly common. But do you care? I mean that's just tattoos. Anything cool and edgy invariably becomes common really quickly.

At least you know yours is. They're common because they have nice symbolic and aesthetic qualities.

That’s really pretty. I’m not into tattoos so I don’t know what’s in ou out, but that looks pretty to me.

Yes I thought it was a little different as it has the flowers incorporated into it so it’s not just a normal butterfly iyswim. I do think it’s pretty too, anything will look better than the barcode with the dodgy lines that’s currently there tho 😊😂

I think just because I like to have something quirky/different usually. It is pretty though I like the flowers in it so it’s not just a standard butterfly 🦋 😊

Ah yes I see what you mean. Things quickly gain popularity etc. Currently speaking to the tattooist to see if my childrens birth flowers can replace the ones in that image so it’s more meaningful and I’ve also asked for it to have the mental health semi colon in it so at least it will be a little unique in that sense

Oh was it 😂 can’t believe I’ve never heard of it. Don’t know what possessed me to even get it tbh (the decisions we make when we are young hey!)
The numbers in the barcode are actually the exact date me and an ex met - he got a matching one 😂🫣
It’s honestly awful

A good tattooist should be able to customise your piece to your specifications. I'm planning my little girl's birth flower for my next tattoo

Hmm, I guess a butterfly for me symbolises new life in a way.
So the caterpillar turning into a butterfly kind of reminds me of myself coming out of a bad bout of depression

My cousin is a tattoo artist and has mentioned that the butterfly/flower combo tattoo is very popular thanks to Shawn Mendes! So if you’re looking for something not common, this is a bad choice IMO. Having said that, I don’t think you should let that bother you- if you like it then get it, the most important thing seems to be that it covers your existing tattoo not how many others have a similar one.

Yes she’s pretty good tbh she draws all the designs to the specifications of the client. She has said I can either have it black greys and whites or have it it colour but it would have to be blues and purples to cover the black

I haven’t actually seen anyone in real life with this kinda thing done so yeah thanks for pointing out that it has gained in popularity. I’m not a follower in any sense so don’t want something everyone else has iyswim but at the same time I guess it can be amended a bit so it’s more unique

Try several tattooists to see what they can do. When I got a cover up (not as dark/solid as I’m guessing the barcode is but fairly big) several tattooists said they wouldn’t be able to do much. Then one designed an incredible piece within minutes of looking at my original.

I think that what is important is that its personal to you, not whether others have something similar. Butterflies have always been popular but there are good reasons for that, a few small changes in design can make it very much yours.
