I absolutely love tattoos, although currently have none myself. I’m absolutely fascinated by others choices and the reasoning for those.
I’m very tempted to get a very small tattoo near a scar (lower abdomen) that symbolises that I’m very lucky to be alive.

Two of mine....not finished yet, but I got pregnant, so have had to put on hold.
They are both tribute tattoos for my gran and Grampy who I was very very close too...I have French writing in both tattoos, so it's like a little message between me and them ((and anyone French 🤣)
I need touch ups on the second one as I don't like the yellow of rose, but it's a peace rose so has to be yellow 🤷🏻‍♀️ I was heavily tanned when I had it done as just got off my honeymoon, and was advised yellow is hard to tattoo in tanned skin, so will have it re-worked and some writing going over 😊😊

@Toomanystorieslost I got mine at 46 for very personal reasons. My parents don't know either. I could just see my mum rolling her eyes and then being opinionated.

One of mine. My most recent and most meaningful.
Cherry blossoms because that’s what we planted to remember our first little girl who we lost to Edwards syndrome. My amazing tattooist drew three blooms to represent my three children - the small unfurled bloom is for her as she never got the chance to blossom.

This is what I'm getting next month. The bears to represent me and my 3 kids. Unintentionally I have pet names for all 3 that include the word bear. The purple butterfly will be above it to represent my 4 miscarriages. Purple is my favourite colour and represents spirituality so I'd like to think there's a spiritual connection to them.

I've been pretty busy on the tattoo front recently.
Just because I've spent the past 3 years making babies, either pregnant or busy with very young kids.
(Had 2 really close together).
So I have been embracing the tattoo love recently.
Picture above was from 2 weeks ago.
This one is from 7 weeks ago.
And got another one in 2 weeks 🤣

My newest! I had it done on Wednesday and my god it’s painful now. My arm is purple. I have another two booked in for the coming 4 weeks and I'm starting to regret my life decisions.

Have a tiny one on my shoulder blade which I had done aged 17 with forged ID - my rebellion. But it's very old now and blurry now. So I'm going to get it covered over.

This one is about 18 months old. I thought about it for about a year. It's a phoenix and symbolises the sheer number of times I've had to cope with adversity. I got it done after I walked away from a particularly toxic friendship with a very manipulative narcissist. Shortly afterwards I went to see a specialist about what I thought was a bruise on my leg and in a matter of days had to undergo a serious operation which I absolutely was not expecting.

Here's the matching one on the other side which I had done about 3 weeks ago. I grew up in Hong Kong and Singapore and in Chinese Mythology the Phoenix and the Dragon have very close associations.

I have a head injury resulting from a bad car accident about 19 years ago which left me with word blindness and a stammer. I have spent the best part of 20 years working to address this through relaxation, exercise, medication and therapy. Thanks in particular to having been diagnosed with anxiety and receiving proper treatment for that, I am finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

In reality though, I always wanted to be "the girl with the dragon tattoo" and now I really AM!

Do tattoos fade in the sun? Do you slather with sun cream? Random question but tattoos seems the place to ask!?

@threesecrets the advice, last time I checked, was to it to cover with sun cream yes. I think it's more because sunburn will damage it rather than outright fading. Fading is an issue with anything linked being left in the sun, if you think about it, but in the UK I don't think we get enough for that to be the main issue, it's skin damage from burning and lots of tanning and the knock on effect it has on the tattoo.
Probably someone will say I am completely wrong soon but that's my understanding. Advice on tattoos varies a lot, even down to the aftercare advice of what lotion to use and how long to keep it wrapped for.

There are some really beautiful tattoos on this thread and lovely to see such a variety of design!

I have one on my back I got done with my brother, we designed it but the artist wasn’t great so both of ours are a bit smudged and faded - I suggested we add/adapt them but his now wife hates tattoos and I don’t want to adjust it without him adjusting his!

I also have these two soot sprites from My Neighbour Totoro to represent my D.C. and in 3 weeks am adding California poppies to them - artist’s sketch here too (we’ve lived in California for the last 9years, DH is getting the California bear and star to match)
