Poorly hamster

I got a hamster two weeks ago from pets at home, he seemed fine full of energy and lovely and cuddly no issues. Cleaning his mess up everyday, fresh water/food and cleaning out, taking him out every night. Saturday I noticed his eye slightly closing it just went worse today when I checked on him his both eyes are completely closed there is a black spot next to his ear and a huge lump on one of his cheeks. He’s not coming out of his corner. I’ve got the vets today at 2.30 should I be preparing to put him to sleep

@Nancienoo unless PAH have given you a refund then the hamster is still yours irrespective of who is paying his vet bill , i would ring the vet again and explain that point . Hope he is ok .

@Floralnomad I’ve tried three times now they keep saying tomorrow and won’t tell me anything joke and no refund think they have quite obviously claimed him back x

He’s still your hamster. You phone and say that and that you’ll ask for legal advice if they don’t give you an update. I don’t trust the vets in the shop, nor pets at home, to do the right thing for an animal. I think you should pay them a visit regardless if you can I really do.

I think I would be demanding him back and taking him to a real vet as they don't seem to be on the level. Why would they refuse to update you? You are his legal owner regardless of who pays his bill. I'd be going down there tomorrow and I'd not be leaving without him. If he has died, they should be refunding you.

@Notanotherwindow i intend on going tomorrow to see what is going on, if he has passed I don’t want refunding but il be making sure I make a complaint and if I do decide to get another il be going to a ethical breeder x

@Blip he passed away sadly I’m so upset I’m going to make a complaint and find out about the breeders where he come from im so angry x

@Sprouttreesareamazing sadly I’ve only just learnt this I’m going to let my self grieve then look into getting another is there a certain place to go for healthy little hamsters x

Poor little guy, I'm so sorry. Its awful the way they handled that.

When buying from a breeder, look for one that gives you a copy of his lineage, his family tree and make sure there is little to no inbreeding. I dont know a specific place as all mine have been Chinese or Russian dwarf hamsters, I've never had Syrians. Also find a vet near you who specialise in exotic pets as they are best when it comes to treating very small animals.

@Floralnomad I intend to they offered me a refund but told them to keep it as I won’t be coming back to there store all about money and not caring about these little animals x

@MistyRock he did deserve better I’m heartbroken, I will never shop in PAH again. I’m making a complaint for the way it was handled x
