I got a hamster two weeks ago from pets at home, he seemed fine full of energy and lovely and cuddly no issues. Cleaning his mess up everyday, fresh water/food and cleaning out, taking him out every night. Saturday I noticed his eye slightly closing it just went worse today when I checked on him his both eyes are completely closed there is a black spot next to his ear and a huge lump on one of his cheeks. He’s not coming out of his corner. I’ve got the vets today at 2.30 should I be preparing to put him to sleep

I refuse to buy from PAH after my last hamster only lived 6 weeks, took her to the vets, spent loads of money on medication & she died 2 days later. She had problems with her eyes that were all gunked up.

I’m not very happy to be honest because he’s in the vets at pets at home they are now saying they can’t tell me @Blip i have to wait until tomorrow x

Hope he recovers soon. Out of interest are they charging you for all this? They should replace him if he doesn't survive.

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 01/12/2022 09:25

I think you've been unlucky. We've had a couple of hamsters from PAH and they've been healthy and lived long (in hamster terms!) lives.

Blip · 01/12/2022 09:27

That's so weird- how can they not give you a quick update until tomorrow?
I'd not be happy with that either.
Is the vets close enough to pop in?

Blip · 01/12/2022 09:29

Handhold for you, it's awful to be worried about a pet xx

@MagnoliatheMagnificent No they are not and I think that’s why they won’t tell me, i would not get a replacement from them Il go to an ethical breeder. I just really want him to pull through because I’m upset thinking of it x

@Blip it’s because pets at home are paying for the treatment apparently as it’s not been two weeks and the only reason I’m find out tomorrow is my mum is the in store cleaner and she’s not in today day off x

That all sounds very strange. I'd pay them a visit and demand to see him.

@MistyRock i would if my daughter wasn’t sick, they are basically saying because pets at home are footing the bill they can’t tell me. I asked if they could tell me he was alive and she said they couldn’t x

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. I think PAH are being real shits tbh.

This is awful.
If PAH are the client then maybe try putting pressure on PAH for an update OP if that's possible.
It's just evil though not to even let you know if he is alive.

@Blip ive been crying over it i feel daft but i bonded with him and can’t stop thinking of his little face been online trying to get answers if he’ll make it. I’ve tried phoning PAH but nothing. As I said my mum cleans the store but today she’s not in as she has to take my grandad hospital. She’s back In at .8.30 x

They said oh you the one with the little girl maybe trying to say we done something which is not the case the Hamster was my pet obviously I let her stroke it and look at him through the cage but no way would I let her handle him. He was fine Friday in my bed enjoying being stroked and cuddled x

God bless you for being so caring. No such thing as 'Just a hamster' we had them as children and my sister and grown up niece still do. In fact my nieces hamster had his leg amputated last year, and she got the same 'just a hamster, waste of money etc...' but the happy little chap is living his best life and as fast as ever.
Really hoping your little guy is recovering well.

@Rubyupbeat i really do care you know when it’s interrupting your life. Animals are so innocent and ask for nothing I really do hope he’s ok x

@Nancienoo unless PAH have given you a refund then the hamster is still yours irrespective of who is paying his vet bill , i would ring the vet again and explain that point . Hope he is ok .
