How big are your pigs?

And what is normal for a boar?

When I first got Big Pig in April he was 567kg. (He was about 4 months)
He is now a whopping 1047kg! (At 8/9 months)
Anyone know if this is normal?

Little Pig was 434kg (5 weeks) when we bought him home and he is now 824kg (5 months (? will have to double check that) ) .

Is Big Pig now mature or is he going to get bigger ?

I did have the boars weighed when they went to the rodentologist and she said they were "good weights".

GP1 is much bigger than GP2 who's a bit Abyssynian .(The smooths are generlly larger)

I keep meaning to get some guinea-pig scales.
GP1 has broken a bottom tooth (he broke the other one a few months back but it's regrown) It doesn't stop him hoovering up parsley.

And WRT getting bigger- one of my sows when I was a child was massive- not fat (though she was the one that had 2 litters) but a bit squishy- but a big girl.

am assuming you mean grams rather than Kg!! otherwise , yes that is a mighty big pig.
Our big pig , Gizzy is about 2lb 12oz, not sure what that is in g but he is a big boy...in many ways!!!

Just be browsing the t'internet, it says that average for a male is 900-1200 , so it seems Big Pig is bang in the middle.

just checked again, he is 1275g..hmmm top of scale :)
do weigh him and he has only put an oz on since we got him, mind he just eats!! when he goes out in teh run if his head touches the grass before his paws, he is already eating!!

friday All Big Pig does is eat and sleep and grunt on the way to the food bowl

Im thinking of cutting down his pellets abit. He has started emptying his bowl of them...

He needs.more exercise really but short of shooing him round the room Im not sure how to get him to do it.

yep, Gizzy is a bit like that, not very active unless it's running to the food bowl. His companion, 'Gary', ( couldn't have the real thing ie Mr Barlow!!), is smaller and quieter and moves more.
But we love Gizzy, especially when he tries to hide by putting his head under Gary...no we can't see your big orange bum Gizzy!!!

Ha ha, I was LOLing at the idea of piggies the size of horses! :)

Boars tend to be heavier than sows (although I did have one quite petite boar who never got any bigger than a smallish sow.)

I just weighed my boys and DBoar 1 is 1358 gms and DBoar 2 is 1352 gms (although his man parts were slightly hanging over, so they're probably about the same!) I think that's a shade under 3 pounds.

I've had bloke pigs bigger than that - the largest was a a gentle giant rex cross who was about 1600 grams at his peak.

There's some good info here on weighing piggies. I think the important thing is to monitor weight every week or so and look out for changes - sudden losses or gains, which could indicate something's wrong.

When DBoar was a bit poorly back in February, the vet he saw (who was pretty crap on all fronts, despite supposedly being a specialist), said he was "obese" and he was 1250 then. I knew he was under his normal weight, so I ignored her "advice" about diet. and wish I'd ignored most of what she said which did him no good and cost me the GDP of a small nation, so glad I've now found a vet who knows his stuff.

One of the girls is 1.1kg and one of them is dead on a kilo :-)

My girls are losing weight now - oldies eat less in the GP world too - so about 780g each.....

Never knew that oldies eat less! I had been worrying my girls (3 and a half yrs) weren't eating enough!

ByTheWays GP are IIRC 11/12 yo, so very venerable.

I look to see if the food gets eaten and the hay box gets filled with pooh nests.(Of proper GP poohs)

GP1 is a smooth who has a bit of a double chin

GP2 is a fluffy little boy who feels like a head and a rump with elastic in the middle !

For the last couple of days not all the dry food is eaten and they still haven't demolished a parsley bell the way they usually would :-( but plenty of poo! And they eat hay like it's going out of fashion!

Yep 12 this year (good memory 70..) ! Still going, but slowing down...... no more pop-corning, more of a cute little waddle

GP2 is 1125g

They are 2 yo. GP1 is smooth
GP2 is Abbysynian type and alot smaller

Shocked OB has lost weight again . He is back down to 750g. He is eating veg and hay well and grass but very slow. I don't think he is eating enough pellets. Wee is still orange and he hasn't pooped properly since before he had his teeth done at the beginning of August .

I weighed my hogs last night,
GP2 has lost 25g (so an ounce)
GP1 has lost about 75g but he could really afford to lose it TBH.

DH was all "What can we give them"?

They have fresh pellets and water daily, hay up to their ears and naice hay.
Fresh daily veg (breakfast and supper) with cut grass if they don't get out.

They're having sweetcorn and beetroot for added calories every couple of days.

Beetroot was a sucess then .

As I recall 2 years was when my boys were at their heavier and then their weight did tail off a tiny bit. 75g is a lot but GP1 did have a big starting weight!

Weigh them again in a weeks time. If they have lost weight again, a trip to the vets might be in order to check them out .
