I know it is naughty and very unfeminist of me (and yes, I have read The Beauty Myth) but I snigger when I see her on TV.

She talks funny because she is attempting to hide her (most likely charming) accent and speak the Queen's English.

Yes Orient, I know what you mean by 'comforting'. My Aunty had a hairstyle like this when I was about 7 (early 80's).

I think she is a character off Wallace and Gromit. My children whistle the theme tune every time she comes on the news.

It reminds me of the Oompa Loompa hairdo - all she's got to do is paint her face orange and she'll have the look down to a tee!

As a plod myself I do cringe at her appearance on TV, it's not her looks so much but the way she speaks, it just doesn't sound right.
