Tracey, my mum looks great for her age. She's 63, but looks a good ten years younger, and does almost nothing to her face. No makeup, no SPF, nothing. Her mother was the same. Just Max Factor pan stick and Ponds Cold Cream twice a day for 60+ years, and was still all but line free when she died. If I've inherited their skin-genes, I'll be happy as can be.

My MIL, on the other hand, looks ten years older than she is. She's desperately skinny, eats no carbs, no meat, no booze, is terrified of getting fat, thinks people who are even a little overweight are disgusting, and has the wrinkled face of a 75 year old. A little junk in the trunk and she'd look just so much better!

PlumSykes · 21/07/2010 18:14

Remember that thread Linwin. Gorgeous dress.

rufus101 · 21/07/2010 18:18

Good for you Linwin!

rufus101 · 21/07/2010 18:21

Ooh! Love it! So glad you bought it! I bet you looked amazing!

blossoming · 21/07/2010 18:23

Sorry again about your mum carciofi.
My mum has aged well and can look really good. However she keeps wearing what I can only descibe as 'Tombliboo trousers' with a top tucked in or a tank top. And as a pear shape..???
I'm in denial right now. Dc1 is poorly and needy. Baby also a bit niggly. Playroom has everything turned out on the floor after guests, kitchen similar. Dh will be home in 10 mins poss and I'm A&W'ing. Where's the tidy up fairy?

bunnymother · 21/07/2010 18:28

My mother has aged dreadfully. Morbidly obese, sensible hair cut (not coloured either), sensible unisex clothes (unless special occasion), no make up or jewellery. All attempts to discuss/help makeover are frustrated or ignored. Obv part of a bigger problem, and ditto any attempts to discuss overall situation.

My sister and I, in contrast, watch what we eat and love clothes, shopping, make up, beauty treatments etc. We must have been brought by the stork!

rufus101 · 21/07/2010 18:30

Meant to say free shipping with HQhair.com with the code HQHELLOWORLD if you spend over £40. I love freeshipping. Can't explain it but it bugs me even though most of time it's small compared to the overall relative spend!

PlumSykes · 21/07/2010 19:02

OWW, agree Jennifer Aniston looks amazing, but I get the feeling that that is all there is. She must work SO hard and eat so little to keep that figure, since early pics suggest she's naturally a curvy, pear-shape, I always get the impression that she's not got much about her. Not much bite. No doubt why she's a pin-up for so many men.

Now this is my perfect body - look at that flat tummy!

Also rather liking her bikini.

I don't think JA is clean living in fact am sure there is always a lot of gossip about how she's partial to ummm certain types of tobacco type products.

FritziGreenEyes · 21/07/2010 20:39

Thanks carciofi!

Gorgeous dress linwin. First bag is gorgeous.

DolceeBanana · 21/07/2010 20:46

Hello!

Manic day ....

Cake- yes please to instructions for pirate cake! I've made a basic sponge for his actual birthday tom. with loads of decorations - just about to ice it! But a fab pirate one would be good for the pardee....your outfit for the interview sounds great and just right! Dress sounds lovely!

I need a slinky body-con (to coin an awful phrase) style for my other wedding (MOW)....saw a fab Paul Costelloe number, but was only in black - not even navy and so, a big fat no!

Any ideas? Basically a VB style without the price tag...yeah, I know back yonder I slagged the woman and sniffily said I'd never buy (oh, I wish), one made by her ...but the styles are good, and sort of demurely sexy if you know what i mean...

My mother ....don't get me started ...

Anyway, you guys who met up recently:cake, choo, trace, bunn, eve, esh, I believe, (sorry if I missed someone)....are you game to come to the next big meet up then?

Fel1x · 21/07/2010 20:50

creeps quietly onto thread
Hello,
I've been awol for quite a while as lots going on in RL, but have missed the A&W chat so am hoping to be welcomed back!

I'm sure I have missed loads and have no hope of catching up on what I've missed so if you dont mind re-capping....how are you all???
Are we onto autumn winter yet? what are the must buys so far??
and most importantly, how was the meet up??? I hope you had lots of fun and I'm sure you all looked fabulously stylish
I was at an 80's concert on Saturday at Audley End. Gorgeous venue and a real blast from the past including Rick Astley and Kim Wilde playing! loved it.

DolceeBanana · 21/07/2010 20:55

Tracey - you read my mind about JA! Think she's a smoker of all types...

She just exudes all American I suppose, maybe that's where you perceive 'clean-living' everything?...I think her bod is pretty spot on...

Read Hello mag for the first time in like, years, recently...and oh, so, surprised to see old, haggard, 'stars' in it! They all had aged badly...Kevin Costner - fat and balding, Tim Jeffries, the London 'IT' man of the 90's, ditto...High Grant, hideous salt n' pepper birds nest replacing foppish bob....yikes!

Women fared no better...sad, sad, sad...will not be buying borrowing that again, I can tell you! I want a bit of escapism!

rufus101 · 21/07/2010 20:57

Off out tonight to meet my BFs for a bite to eat. Wearing strappy hancherchief hem Paisley print dress to show off the tan, red suede ankle strap platform pedro Garcia sandals with JasMB cracked brown leather vintage looking circular bag with gold leather strap! Phew! That took longer than i thought to describe. Can't link as items not recent. DH said he didn't want to let me out, which is his way of saying I look good! He's a pet really as he's really good with the "these shoes or these shoes?", "this bag or that one?"! Very decisive, and usually gets it right unless it's some trend he hasn't picked up on. Doesn't get the black leather biker jacket and floral dress thing for example. Will report back!

DolceeBanana · 21/07/2010 20:59

Hiya Felix...you are v welcome back to the thread!

We are quietly discussing AW ...

Gosh, blast from the past - Rick Astley and Kim Wilde...and then there's Bunny mentioning house music!!!! Blimmin' heck...

DolceeBanana · 21/07/2010 21:03

rufus...my DH is the same...strong ideas about what to wear with what...which is good! Doesn't always get it right either, usually 'trend' stuff, but at least he has an opinion...he does have good taste generally though...

OllieWollieWoo · 21/07/2010 21:07

Waves to Fel1x - welcome back! Recap - Traceybath has got us all oohing and ahhing over the Wohite Company poncho here; LTEC has bagged an interview for a clothing related website; far too many W&A DC are not going to sleep at bedtime and then becoming tired and grumpy the next day; the meet up was a big success by all accounts - everyone looked and was fabulous; Everything looked gorgeous at her sisters wedding and (saved the best news til last)Bunnymother is pregnant with twins!!! Wot did I miss?

blossoming · 21/07/2010 21:08

Have a good time rufus. welcome back felix.

Phew that's better. Have just shredded. Don't let me have guests again will you!!

OllieWollieWoo · 21/07/2010 21:15
